Expérience négative: This place is invested with bed bugs. Coming directly from the residence upstairs and we all know that these parasites can make their way anywhere . The infestation is completely out of control. If you try to kill this parasite , it just moves to a different part of the building. This infestation will never end until the place is completely gutted or torn down . Be aware, parents. If you bring your child to the daycare, you will eventually have these bedbugs in your home. When that happens, say goodbye to everything you own . This is not a joke. Leaving your child in this unbelievable infested bedbug home will, in the end, make you lose everything, including your home. BE WARE.

Expérience négative: Said they put me on the housing wait list. 7 months later when I need the place, I'm told I was never put on the wait list. Now I'll be homeless in May. Untrustworthy and unapologetic.

Expérience négative: This Y is run by psychopathically lazy and immoral management. The senior White female staff could care less about the ethnically diverse or marginalized groups of people who use the facility or the less fortunate men's residents who make up a large proportion of the Hamilton Downtown YMCA's population. The facility itself is very run-down, in desperate need of public funding for interior improvements, especially the general men's locker room which is disgusting, leaking and rusting in many places. The staff show a prejudice in favour of the higher-paying non-ethnic plus members than the regular members of the public even though this place charges nearly $60/month for access to an old, ugly gym (from the 70s) with poor or non-existent hours. They used to open until 10pm but now close at 6pm on Saturdays (which is madness for the young people who need that weekend safe space) and 4pm on Sundays -- drastically reducing the level of service to men in the downtown community. I say men because there is a YWCA which caters to the women's population that is located a block away. Despite the fact that the YMCA on Jackson St is primarily used by young and older Hamilton males, you would be hard pressed to find any men working there as administrative staff. They treat young male members with disdain, suspicion and condescension, hardly representative of the founding values of the Young Men's Christian Association. This building is more akin to an open men's penitentiary than a legitimate members' fitness club, and one that just so happens to have one of the best and largest indoor basketball courts in the city. The staff treat you like you are a prisoner and second-class citizen, if even that. They expect to be worshipped and served, and give absolutely nothing in return but disrespect and egotism.

Expérience négative: I’ve Been going to this place since I was 12, (18) now, great place, not very clean and also the new front desk stuff are rude for no apparent reason. They’re just awful to people, they either need proper training or they just gotta take a chill pill, other than that there’s not much to complain about. And I forgot to mention the locker or change room isn’t very safe, don’t keep valuables inside the locker room, very shady people are in there half the time.

Expérience négative: If I could give this 0 stars I would. My experience was horrible. Front desk girl was very rude. I have never been treated so horrible in my life. I don’t think I have ever met someone so rude in every way. Every-time I tried to talk she would interrupt and say “I don’t care” or “okay so?”. Please don’t go there if you want to be treated like a human being.

Expérience fantastique: Hi I’m 13 and I want to go to the gym with my friend that’s 16, we don’t have memberships and we just want a day pass, can we get in if we don’t have any parent? And it’s just us two?.

Expérience positive: The staff are kind and welcoming. It's them that sold me to sign up. Here and there needs some cosmetic TLC... only one machine was out of order amongst dozens and dozens of other machines. The space was clean and organized although the bank of lockers I was using were rusty...the rust rubbed off onto my beige coat when I went to hang it... nothing like a fresh coat of paint to spruce up the place! Overall a great space for excercises and all types of amenities. A full pool, childcare, racket ball, ping pong and on and on!

Expérience négative: Charging $60 per month and machines are mostly broken or rusted. A/C almost don’t work.

Expérience positive: Staff are nice and knowledgeable. Has a lot of up-to-date equipment, the only thing I don't like is how the machines are close together. Wish the gym wasn't in the basement because it feels kinda like a dungeon lol . A nice track with different speeds posted. Also you have to pay a $1 for a towel, which I never had to do at my the other YMCA that I went to. Even still I will definitely go again.

Expérience fantastique: Used to be a former employee and went back for a visit. Marco at the front desk recognized me and welcomed me even though it has been 10+ years. Genevieve was also working. She is a highly competent senior manager so it was nice to see her again and still running the facility. The building was clean and all the staff was friendly and attentive. Only critical point was the hot tub was closed and not working during my visit which hopefully will be fixed for the members.

Expérience négative: I've been trying this location for the better half of a year now as a "premium plus" member. Main gym: This section is okay, decently large freeweights section, one of each machine for the basics available and spread out in a manner that makes sense. Some leaks in the ceiling every now and then put machines out of commission. Pool: Meh. Pretty small in comparison to other YMCA gyms, hot tub completely broken with no intent to fix. If you imagine a highschool in the 70s that had a pool, then fast forward to 2023 without making any updates, that's what you'd see. Locker rooms: I'm in the men's plus lockeroom and it's a sad state. Most lockers are rusted & I've found mouse droppings in them multiple times. The gym equipment is better, but a lot of machines are missing pegs for the weights. Hot tub is managed poorly and heavily over chlorinated. Will leave your skin very dry after a one minute dip. The only solace is the steam room & dry saunas IF they're not broken down. At least the showers all work for the most part. Membership fee: I pay about $40 bi-weekly. I cannot bring a guest. This is quite a bit higher than the majority of other gyms out there and here you get by far worse amenities. Overall: Pretty poor. I continue to come to this location solely due to proximity. Some more care shown to the amenities would be nice, and bringing a guest would be even better, especially since the membership fees are wildly high for what you get.

Expérience négative: The Founders of this once Great Gym and community/family space would be rolling in their graves. Management is more interested in stone walling and insulting members asking for historical hours of operation or withholding/limiting towels and cleaning services then they are addressing the loitering and open drug use withing the building. It is the only gym in the downtown core, yet is massively missing it's membership goals and seems to be going out of it's way to be as non user friendly as any business I have encountered. Completely overstaffed yet it's embarrassingly underperforms. Saddens me to say but stay away from becoming a member until the Management and board become serious about matching the levels of excellence their predecessors strived for.

Expérience positive: Great space but it needs lots of maintenance and repairs. The basketball gym is a sauna because there is no AC and bad air flow into and out of the gym... And parts of the gym floor are chipped which is dangerous. The good thing is that there are alot of good facilities to work out in and the space is there if you want privacy. I think the HVAC system needs to be cleaned because there is a lot of dust building up around the air ducts. Compared to the other YMCAs in the area this one clearly needs some help from the maintenance department.

Expérience positive: Since we've been able to come back post covid . Hours are shorter . Costs are same though. When can men plus member who pay extra be able to stay till 10pm ? Before covid 9pm was amazing for the swim you were able to finish the workout and then hit the pool after. Now not so much. Vague timelines from staff. Also handball/raquetteball courts are not being kept up. Please return to the 10pm hours or charge less for men's plus. I shouldn't be paying more for less service. Won't even mention towel service and how it isn't in the changeroom anymore. Other then that glad it back and running . Just og members and new members want the 10pm schedule with pool and lane swim restored at 9pm to 10pm .

Expérience négative: My father is 66 old he dosent have access to internet to email ymca membership cancelation dep. he moved from city and called ymca to cancel his membership but the told him to come Or email ymca so wait until my son visit him he asked my son to email them my son email but the way there customer service handle the case I felt so sorry for our seniors that ymca customer services replying to them this is there respond to my senior dad (Okay... if you plan to cancel you will still have to make that payment. Expérience fantastique: Great place to be a member of. Super friendly staff and the building is well-maintained base on its age and its use of it. The gym is very nice, clean and not too busy at certain times. I love going to play squash, and they got two squash courts and a few other different courts. The swimming pool looks fresh and smells like chlorine.

Expérience positive: You get what you pay for. The machines, classes and employers are top notch! better than Goodlife by FAR. The building itself is older, but overall i really like this gym. There is a mix of people that go there, but then again.. this gym gives the options for payments where other big gyms don't. I'm very glad i switched from goodlife!! :)

Expérience négative: The SACC program is a bureaucratic disaster. But it is the only option for most parents so we're forced to use it. Utterly hopeless. For a charitable organization like the Y, I expect much higher standards and compassion.

Expérience positive: Very clean and equipment is in good condition. Very diverse clients. Good hours. Friendly clients and staff. Very expensive however.

Expérience négative: Shady fitness institution I lost $135 worth of cash and bus tickets a couple years ago. I went early that morning around 6.30 where there was only a couple old people doing treadmill. When I returned an hour later my standard digit padlock was broken into. I only saw one or two middle aged guy leaving the place. When I asked the staff, they couldn't help me. I highly suspect that they know who checked out since there was like two people and they came early morning so must be highly committed to the gym and probably met the receptionist a lot. They didn't even mention about checking their login records. They just told me to fill out some forms and they never talk about it again. It's almost as if they know what happened but they don't want to help because we're just international students and probably won't talk to police. The fact that our school suddenly cuts ties with YMCA even though half of their students play basketball here is also weird. Anyway be careful there's a lot of shady stuff here. Keep your wallets with you. Don't trust anyone.

If you’re not happy with the management or your job then please resign so YMCA can hire more suitable and capable employees. I give this YMCA zero star rating.

Expérience fantastique: YMCA is a great place to work out. Lots of facilities, hot tubs, updated private members areas ... the only real flaw is needing more pec decks! :) Parking options are pretty good for the inner city. Free before 8am, lots of meter and free street parking in the area. Might take you a bit to learn it though. Personally I would like an earlier start time on Sundays but that's a preference, not a big deal.

Expérience positive: My first day going into the gym and everything was great. That was until my glasses and my friend's shoes were stolen from a locked locker. I suggest you keep your valuables away from the lockers, but otherwise everything is great.

Expérience fantastique: been going here since I was in grade 9, im entering college this fall. So it's been great, continuing to keep going to downtown ymca cause it's great. "You can take the gangster out of the hood, but you can never take the hood out of the gangster" LOL
