Canada Games Centre: Avis
Expérience positive: Water in pool is perfect. Change rooms are modern and new.
Expérience fantastique: good pool
Expérience négative: Hey Guys please don’t waste your money by coming here. They say something different when you buy the membership after that when you try to cancel the membership they say something else provides half information is not how customer service is done.
Hello Rajvinder, thank you for expressing your concern. We would like to know more about the matter. Please reach out to us directly via Facebook Messenger https://www.facebook.com/CGCHalifax and we would be happy to clarify any misunderstanding that took place.
Expérience fantastique: Great instructor of the gental aqua fit class.
Expérience négative: There shower water is so so hot. It's unbearable. Had been complaining for last 2 years. No resolution at all. Each time they said waiting for parts to be shipped. Very very disappointed.. with CGC management. 0 star
Expérience fantastique: Espetáculo de lugar
Expérience positive: Water in the pool is always too cold
Expérience fantastique: peaceful best place to spend time
Expérience fantastique: Love this place. Good facilities.
Expérience négative: Pool rules should be disclosed at check in, yelled at for bringing in toddler water wings, then later for the baby floaty - but no one yelled at the man who was washing his armpits in the pool :/
Hi Brianne, we apologize for any confusion during your visit to our Centre. Information on Aquatics Safety Standards can be found on our website here: https://canadagamescentre.ca/aquatics/aquatics-safety-standards/. They are also posted on the whiteboard on the pool deck.Personal toys (including puddle jumpers and mermaid tails), monofins, snorkels, and/or aquatic masks, are not allowed. However, should you or your child need flotation support for the pools, we have lifejackets, PFDs, and flotation belts onsite that can be obtained by asking any of our lifeguards. If you have any concerns while visiting the Aquatics Centre, please speak with any of our staff on deck and they will be happy to assist.
Expérience positive: A great place for sports and recreation. However the options are limited and given the increase in population in Halifax they will include more course like Taekwando, Pilates, Valley, Jazz, Hip Hop, art and craft lessons etc
Expérience fantastique: Small family owned café ☕, was recommended to me by a friend. Felt comfortable and the employees are so nice! The treats are delicious, I recommend their buttery chocolate croissants. #supportlocalbusiness #teatime
Expérience fantastique: A must go-to rec Centre
Expérience négative: Managers don’t care about providing quailing service. They’re unreachable. Basketball court is always dirty to where it’s a hazard to play in. It’s also always booked. Gym staff are rude. Harassed me for staring on my phone for too long while resting. While other members were doing the same thing. It felt like a racist attack.
Hello JJ, we are sorry to hear about your recent experience at the Centre. If you are ever experiencing issues with the Field House, please reach out to our Field House Staff and they will be more than happy to help. Although phones can be used in the Fitness Centre, we do ask that visitors avoid prolonged phone use while on gym equipment to ensure fair use for everyone. There is signage that encourages members to keep phone use to a minimum within the area, and we can assure you all users who might be spending too much time on a machine with their phone are quietly asked to be mindful.
Expérience positive: Good place to spend time on indoor activities like swimming and other games.
Expérience fantastique: Wicked spot! So much fun for the kids. I'd also like to point out the Staff are super helpful and friendly. Thanks for the great experience!
Hello Dirk, we are glad you had a great time. Thanks for visiting!
Expérience positive: Been coming here since 2017 The bathrooms are consistantly disgusting. Old folks give you the dirtiest looks for making the slighest noise when lifting. Local teenagers use the one bench press as an after school hangout spot.---Love the power racks though!!
Hello Troy, we are sorry to hear about your recent experience at our Centre. We do our best to clean up after our thousands of daily visitors promptly, however, if you ever notice a hazardous situation, please do not hesitate to inform our Customer Service Desk where we can send immediate attendance. Our Fitness Centre equipment is meant to be shared, and if there's an area being blocked without the purpose of working out, you can let our Fitness Centre Desk know and they will assist in making sure you're able to fairly access our equipment. Thank you for your feedback and for being an ongoing member.
Expérience fantastique: Gym, pool, lots of other things to do
Expérience fantastique: The staff are friendly. Like the facilities.
Expérience fantastique: I play pickleball here alot. It can be challenging to reserve a court but drop in on Mon Wed and Fri are fun and friendly. There are lots of activities yoga basketball fitness classes a gym and huge pool. The membership prices are a good deal and you enter by scanning your membership card. Very friendly employees!!!!!
Expérience fantastique:
Expérience fantastique: Superb relaxation center
Expérience positive: Very nice friendly atmosphere. The swimming trainer's training skills and dedication was quite good. Thanks to all
Expérience fantastique: I'm really enjoying swimming and the dzakusy and dry sauna is there. Every time you can meet someone for a good conversation
Expérience positive: Visited to watch my daughter in the NS Volleyball Provincials. Nice facility, seating was terrible for the amount of spectators.
Expérience fantastique: This is an amazing place! Thank you for various leisure activities, cleanliness and order! Glad to visit again!
Expérience fantastique: Love going here! It’s close to the highway, there’s a sauna, lots of swim space options (deep end, baby pool, designated shallow swim area, regular shallow end of a pool, and a hot tub). I enjoy going to the gym, using the indoor run track and then swimming after. I’ve not taken advantage of their classes yet but they have lots going on every day. Also highly recommend taking advantage of the childcare! It gives you 90min to take care of yourself while someone else looks after your little one ❤️ sometimes check ins take a while but recently it was no wait time.
Expérience fantastique: Great for a flat, no ice power walk!
Expérience fantastique: Nice sport centre with swimming pools and gym. WIH PASS holders can attend it free of charge.
Expérience fantastique: Nice sports facility, very busy with activities taking place.
Expérience fantastique: Grand Children went to the baby pool for the first time and loved it, well staffed and lots of water toys for the kids. Enjoyed our time there and lots of company.
Expérience négative: the pool looks older than my grandmother, the locker rooms are rusty, there are no locks. If you want to really relax and swim, it’s better to go somewhere else
Expérience positive: Great facility. Biggest knock against it is they canceled evening child minding during covid!! I'd be there 6 days a week if I could drop my kids off while I work out
Expérience fantastique:
Expérience positive: Felicidades fue una buen lugar
Expérience négative: Careful you don't lose anything here. You may try to call the next day and they've already donated it away.
Expérience fantastique: Good place for family vacation. My daughter very likes this pool, because it has warm water and Waterslides
Expérience fantastique: Muy bien excelente servicio
Expérience positive:
Expérience fantastique: One of the best place for swimming plus gym and other Sports activity with an amazing stuff
Expérience fantastique:
Expérience fantastique:
Expérience fantastique: Awesome place for recreational activities!
Expérience positive: It was fun good place to go to with your family
Expérience positive: Hot tub not in commission right now..out side of that excellent
Expérience positive: Great sports and exercise facility with many programs and options for all ages.
Expérience fantastique: Clean place, contemporary design and water slides. Cheap swims on Saturday nights.
Expérience positive: Great facilities and the pool area is well kept
Expérience négative: Hard to get Badminton courts during winter as they give preference to private events. Too frustrating sometimes. Update: Customer Service...? They should really work on this.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent place to work out or chill in the pool. Staff is friendly and helpful as well
Expérience fantastique: First time there recently! Great facilities! Large pool! Party rooms so much fun!
Expérience fantastique: I enjoy the swimming pool. Great for toddlers as well. Family environment, also they provide day passes for 12$
Expérience positive: We went there to go swimming. But they were too full so they told us they would call us when we were able to go in. We ended up leaving. They didn't call us for 3 or 4 hours
Expérience fantastique: We threw a pool party for my son's birthday. It was very well-organized, and staff were very nice. Highly recommend!
Expérience fantastique: Amazing facilities! There's always something going on here. We take our toddler to swimming lessons here and the instructors are super friendly and helpful! There's always a locker available in the changing rooms as well. They offer quite a good membership package that we're considering based off the good experiences we have had!
Expérience positive: Tried their pool for the first time, bringing my family there. It's not bad. They have a lil more attractive things than the Sportsplex and Cole Harbour Place BUT the cleanliness of the changing rooms are disgusting. Make sure you're wearing slippers because it's filthy and not regularly kept on the hour. For cleanliness, the Zatzman Sportsplex is by far the better spot of the three. I don't think I'll be back there until I hear it's changed.
Expérience fantastique: We love this place. Great swimming pool. Awesome gym for basketball. Good weight room. Definitely worth the membership
Expérience positive: Hello, this is a very good place. But I would like to draw attention to the visitors who go directly to the pool in the shoes they came to. This is the first pool in which I see this, I think it's not hygienic
Expérience positive: Girls at the front were friendly enough. Life guards were good. Only real complaint was the cleanliness. The pool deck had gum stuck to the floor in multiple places, folks had shoes on out around the pool by seating area which made things very dirty for us who had no shoes and we were walking through murky dirty water collecting on the floor by the change rooms.
Expérience fantastique: Hi, I really appreciate the government service for the sport facilities there. If is a joyful place for amateurs and professionals. We play volleyball weekly there and I meet my close friends. This amazing place includes pool, gym, aerobic, badminton, basketball, football, running, gymnastic, and other sports.
Expérience négative: I came back to edit the rating and add a review. Where do I begin? This is a municipal funded sports center. Which means the public pays the taxes, a part of which goes to this facility. But it seems the board handles this as if they own it. They change things at their will. Rent the court without regard to the members. Evening is the time for most of us working people who can come play. At such times at least two days a week the courts are rented out. Renters are the board's priority, not the members. Remember the wild fires. The facility was used as a relief center. Now, I am for humanity and fully support this move. But the board never waived the fee we paid for the entire week. Essentially we pay the price, they get the credit. Again, I'm not looking for a credit here. Just because it is municipally funded, you can't make decisions on your own and expect it to be accepted. And then there were the indigenous games for which the courts were closed. Once again, I'm for the community games but not at the cost of our fee! CGC is very much ahead when it comes to increasing the membership fee for any reason. But not when it comes to compensating members for the planned closures. And let me not start on the facilities and cleanliness. The water filters are always yellow. It takes them forever to replace the filters, even after making aware of it to the front desk. Bathrooms are filthy and filled with trash. The buckets under the swimsuit water extractors are always overflowing. Table tennis racquets are hard woods, no padding on them. The TT balls are substandard quality. Morning staff is not available. So courts are available for booking but no equipment to play with. The dance fusion classes play the sound too loud. The decibels are sure to rupture your eardrums in an hour. When I ask them to turn the volume down they say there is a process to it! The child minding classes are cancelled because they want to hold summer camps. All in all this is the only sports facility nearby. It is taxpayer funded and yet pricey! I do have a positive thing to say though. They got some varieties of activities that you can practice. That's all.
Expérience positive: Show up for a local sporting event, clean open space,. warmer than a rink, but if you get chilly easily bring a sweater for sitting on the bleachers. Subway is the only on site food provider. While (for a Subway) they're reasonably speedy. There's certainly a wait au lunch time. I haven't seen most of the building.
Expérience positive: We were here for the 14UG Volleyball Nationals. The event was well organized and the venue provided adequate space for the players. Additional seething would have been nice for the spectators, but we made the best of it.
Expérience fantastique: Took my daughter and her friends for the $4 swim. Such a great deal! And I appreciated that the glass wall to look into the pool from the lobby had comfortable seeting so I could keep an eye on them without having to enter the pool area
Expérience positive: Gym Facilities - The Fitness Centre is amazing. I like the vibe, the music, and the range of exercise machines. It’s a good place to work out in. Pool - The Pools are okay but sometimes you can find hair in the pool and it gets stuck in your hand sometimes but other than that the pools are great. I recommend taking a short shower before so the pools are warm when you get in. Subway & Snacks - Subway staff and food really good, nothing bad to say about subway. The vending machines are good they have a nice selection but the prices is steep compared to what you are getting. Track & Field House - Both the track and field house are amazing, they have a wide range of spirits available. The track has TRX extensions and the field house has Basketball, Pickleball, and Badminton. Change Rooms - They could be improved cleanliness wise. There is hair everywhere (in the drain, the floor, etc) other than good change rooms. Staff - Staff can sometimes be mean and they are not Very helpful. I would recommend coming early if you are visiting the customer service desk as they can take some time to process your request. In the field house, half of the time there are not attendants so you have to wait until they come. We had to wait 10 mins to return our equipment and leave. I think CGC is a great place but could be better if they made some changes to their processes.
Expérience positive:
Expérience fantastique:
Expérience fantastique: The Canada games center really is a fun place to be active in, and highly recommend the water slides in the pool area!
Expérience fantastique: The staff is always busy, helpful and friendly. The place is always tidy and the swimming lessons are great
Expérience fantastique: A nice gym + swimming pool with a subway branch where you can enjoy your time with your family. Very friendly staff and nice location.
Expérience fantastique: I love ❤ this place. It's big and has all the programs someone needs to get/stay in shape. The staff is friendly and helpful and its reasonably priced!
Expérience positive: A real effort to keep the place open, functioning and safe...not a real fan of having to book access but will do what is needed to slow the speed of Covid's latest varienr
Expérience positive: Inexpensive and great facility, but the hours are bogus. What kind of gym closes at 9pm? Often very busy and always under construction.
Expérience négative: Used to be a member then they jacked there prices like crazy. EDIT:$26 for a drop in swim for 2 adults and 1 toddler. CHP or Sackville is like $10 this place is a total rip-off i will never set foot in here again.
Expérience positive: Nice place to be for better fitness.
Expérience négative: Worst place ever. Disgusting and neglected. It’s a filthy place. Gym has no equipment and staff are a bit lazy. Huge line up at front desk and only one person taking an hour with each person. While others are behind just talking to each other about ignoring everyone else. Save your money and go somewhere else
Expérience négative: Became a member only because of friends/I lived a minute away. It's been a couple of years now, I go to the fitness centre 6 times a week, can't seem to come upstairs without being asked 3 times if I booked online/or I'm feeling sick/or where's my member card, while old man John just walks up with a wave, no questions asked. Its usually the white folks asking me this. Xenophobias real. Don't recommend.
Expérience négative: The second you finish a set, the staff comes and harasses you to put on the mask. Extremely rude staff… Terrible hours of operation. Overall I would not recommend this facility. There are some staff who are nice, but the majority are very bossy to the costumers. Not recommend!
Expérience positive: Just moved to Halifax and have purchased a 10 day pass for $115 (incl tax) which allows you access to all their facilities including fitness and aqua aerobic classes. I wish though that the aqua aerobics classes were scheduled slightly later, (and not overlapping) the fitness classes as you can't go to both on the same day around the same time. And it would be nice to spend some extra time in the pool afterwards as a cool down. The facilities are starting to look tired and lockers require your own padlock which I wasn't made aware of - had to search the internet. Yearly passees are quick expensive so think carefully prior to purchase.
Expérience négative: Me and my husband came here for a swim on a hot day. We waited in line for over a half an hour…first ones in line. They had multiple workers who had terrible looks on their face. One girl at the customer service desk on the phone not even acknowledging the line up of 30 people. Will never return.
Expérience négative: I brought my family here for an open swim including my infant (3 mos.). Because of his size and age, we have a personal floaty that we bring with us when we know he will be participating in water activities for his safety. Upon approaching the front desk, before they even greeted us, the front staff person (male) immediately said personal floaties are not permitted. When asking why, they just said it was policy. When I asked what else was available the front desk person just said they have life jackets and other floaties. When asked about the sizing they said they were unsure. Another staff member (female) nearby spoke up and said they have a shark floaty that can be used for infants and she can go get one from the pool area to show us, so I said yes please. While waiting, the person at the front desk who was assisting us continued to get our information and told us the price of the swim. I said I wouldn't be paying until I'm able to see if their swim equipment is appropriate. When the female staff member brought their "infant" floaty although it did have a seat, it was way too big. didn't have any straps to keep an infant in it, nothing to support an infants head/neck, and nothing to support the stomach area for an infant to be in a sitting position if they did have good head control and a strong enough core. It would have been completely unsafe and inappropriate to use with a child our age. When informing them it was unsafe for an infant and asking the sizing of the life vests, they said they wouldn't have a life vest small enough for him. Despite the safety issues and them not having a suitable device for our child, we were still not able to use the floaty we brought with us, with no explanation or justification for why we couldn't use it if they didn't have a suitable alternative. Thus, we left. I have been able to use our/his personal floaty at other facilities/aquatics centres in HRM with no issues. Never coming back to CGC.
Expérience négative: I was a member at this place for years. Don't know what’s happened lately, but the staff are incredibly rude at times. I was told to get off my phone while I was having a conversation with someone concerning work. However, it was ok for the guy across from me to text and hold up the machine for 25 min. Also, if you don't put your mask on right away after putting your weights down--then be prepared to be reprimanded. JC give me a few seconds to catch my breath at least. I know, I know… My mask being off for several seconds is a problem Yet, the over weight girl who doesn’t wipe down her equipment, with lumpy legs, walking around with her stretch shorts riding up her backside is alright. This place is a joke. Incredibly over priced and way too many rules. It’s not enjoyable to be their anymore. What a waste … it’s such a shame.
Expérience négative: The facility looks great from the outside but looks tossed together on the inside. I have been down for events and I honestly don't think they have the availability to hold these events. Their spectator setting is probably the worst part as there is a lack of it. I expected better from a large municipality.
Expérience fantastique: The Canada Games Centre is marginally more expensive than other gyms around the city but the membership is well worth the money. The extensive facilities are very well maintained and have great hours. The group fitness instructors are fantastic and lead excellent classes. The staff are always friendly, helpful, and surprisingly cheerful at 5:30 AM. The entire centre opens at 5:30 AM during the week which is great if you feel like playing badminton, going for a run, or going for a swim before work or school. The centre is also open late with evening fitness classes available. If you are new to weights or need motivation, the group fitness classes will introduce you to weights and are always varied.
Expérience fantastique: Very good facility everything under one roof for your exercise needs .
Expérience fantastique: Fun place to do exercises or go for a swim
Expérience fantastique: Regularly have fresh Indian vegetables and you can find all your cooking needs and Indian Sweets and Snacks and the person in charge is very helpful
Expérience fantastique: Great place for clubbing....includes swimming, gym, badminton, volley ball, basketball etc
Expérience fantastique: I really like working out there it’s super clean and the people ther are so friendly
Expérience fantastique: Very clean, beautiful facility
Expérience fantastique: My family visited the Canada Games Centre specifically for the pool and we had a blast. The pool is big, with floating toys and equipment for kids, a splash pad and two enormous slides which we unfortunately did not get to try. Inside the centre, we also saw a gym, a basket ball court, a karate class, a point sparring class, and more. We will definitely go back.
Expérience fantastique: A very nice sports complex. I was only in the gymnasiums for a volleyball tournament but it is very nice. Has a pool, football field, a subway inside with place to eat inside the building. I'm sure I missed stuff there but that all I saw when I was there
Expérience fantastique: My first visit to this sport Centre was very remarkable . Large ,clean spacious. I will update with subsequent visit as I intend touring the whole place . But so far ,so good.
Expérience fantastique: I also go to Lifemark, physiotherapy there.
Expérience fantastique: Very well maintained multi-sport centre, with 3 indoor swimming pools (1 for the very little ones). The swim teachers are really great, but for kids I highly recommend individual lessons. Another great activity for kids on this centre is karate with Sensei Jeff Murphy, there is also family sessions for parents and kids to practice together. Bathrooms, changing rooms and all spaces in general are very tidy. Parking lot is very spacious, but getting a spot close the doors is not easy.
Expérience fantastique: I came, I saw, I got hella wet. Hot tub 10/10 would float there again.
