Expérience positive: In my opinion it is a place with very good conditions and very clean, but I think that if you want to take a picture of your family or your child, it's all your right, because it's a public and neutral place. And with respect to the pool area the staff becomes somewhat irritating or aggressive with respect to cell phones, they are more aware of that than children in the water, we know that privacy is important because of the various cultures but sometimes there are important emergencies or calls that we must answer, for no reason are they allowed to treat people badly or look badly or look at people with a bad face, It's very unpleasant, today a red-haired one was chasing me with a hateful face because I answered a call and he followed me wherever I went, he really made me angry, I hope they don't have that kind of people working with the population. For others happy because we spent a refreshing afternoon, thank you very much .

Expérience fantastique: Place is great. Has everything. Went here for hello summer festival but the inside of grounds were great. Worse part were the security guards at event. I was meeting one of the band members after the show and they kicked me out and I had the drummer and tour manager running around trying to find me. Im sure that's a contractor thing though so nothing on mac island overall.

Expérience positive: Nice facility, but unfortunately an absolute zoo. Gym etiquette is absolutely horrendous and parking lot is often completely full. Most of the staff are friendly but I would not rely on them (referring to man who died in December of 2020 due to gross negligence and incompetence at the pool)

Expérience fantastique: Awesome facilities. Lots of pros, con-maybe different had mens change room was under construction, but the family changeroom could have used to have been tended to, but awesome pool and the food offered was great, going to check out the rock wall today!

Expérience négative: Phoned Mac island about pickleball. Yes they have it free to play for an hour but you have to buy a 16.00 day pass to play for the one hour free court time. Not a very inviting for visitors that is for sure. If you are up to ft Mac and want to play a couple of games and leave pretty darn expensive.

Expérience positive: Why do lots of people keep wear outdoor shoes not only in the swim pool area but also inside locker room? I have seen a lot of people keep doing that everytime while I was there. Please do something about it.

Expérience fantastique: Great rec center! Very impressive! Lots of workout space and an awesome pool. The library needs a bit more soul, and the "gallery" needs some more contribution.

Expérience négative: Hispanic lady at the front desk was rude. I was speaking as calmly as I can but she keeps using a higher tone of voice. It seems as though she can’t explain and understand the whole ordeal

Expérience négative: Me and my husband had a bad experience visiting the Macdonald Island Park. It was our first time ever to go to the place . We don’t know anyone there. We are only in fort mcmurray for the night and We dropped in for volleyball. We asked to play volleyball with these group of people, who seem like the regulars that usually go there, and they were not friendly or welcoming to us. My husband and I were being super friendly and kind but the responses and attitudes of the other volleyball players weren’t. I’ve talked to the staff and they were super kind to us and even gave us a free pass for drop in. They have talked to those people about the situation we have faced there. I don’t know what’s happened after that as we left after talking to the staff. I decided I won’t be going there again because of what we experienced especially for the first time visit. Thanks to the group of guys who made it difficult for us to have fun and what we thought would be a great drop in visit to play volleyball at the Macdonald Island Park!

Expérience négative: I went to go cancel my membership and I instantly was met with rudeness. I have never been treated so ignorantly in my life. I asked the lady with black curly hair and black rectangle glasses a question and she SNAPPED at me with so much disrespect. I have never been so flabbergasted in my life. How are you working customer service and treat your customers like pieces of garbage. very upsetting, other then that love the gym.

Expérience fantastique: MacDonald Island Recreation Center is world-class. The aquatic facility is phenomenal, with a gigantic pool with customizable dimensions. Two spring board at different heights for diving enthusiasts. Two hot tubs. Water slides, rowdy river, splash park, and warm temperature training pool for swim lessons. A great climbing facility. Incredible indoor field houses and courts. Racket courts. Two full-size ice rinks and two recreational ice skating surfaces. Very well equipped gyms. A gourmet restaurant plus several fast service options. The best part? It's not busy like similar facilities in larger cities. Fort McMurray is frigging awesome!

Expérience positive: I absolutley LOVE this place. I actually just purchased a membership here. Membership plus. Anyways since I have gotten a membership I have been treated horribly by the front desk staff. First day I went I told them I just purchased a membership for my family and I didn't know where anything was and the lady just pointed.... usually when you get a new membership somewhere they show you around its a huge building. Nope. Then I eventually figured out where the fitness changerooms were a nice man pointed them out for me when I got to that wing of the building. In the gym I tried to talk to and get some information about the equipment from the girl at the gym desk. She was stand offish and very vague and just no helpful. So REALLY horrible first time there. On the other hand the ladies in the child minding part are amazing. Went to sign up my grand daughter that lives with us there last night because we were told we could. I was told we can't sign hee up and she doesn't live with us etc etc etc. It was the worst experience I've ever had talking to someone. The ladies let me know she isn't my child, she doesn't live with me and ya really bad experience. When we signed up she was at her father's house. No matter how many times we told them she lives with us and yes I ha e sole custody of her they let me know we didn't. She was with us and could hear and was super excited to get a bracelet. Still figuring this out with them because she does INDEED live with us. Those ladies should be ashamed of themselves. I feel awkward now even walking in the place. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I hope they can remedy this for us. Too bad because I have a membership and love the facility. DO BETTER

Not only did I get to enjoy the stunning natural surroundings, but I also had the opportunity to indulge in some fantastic dining experiences. The range of restaurants offered delicious and diverse cuisines, catering to every taste. Additionally, the gym center was well-equipped, allowing me to stay active and energized during my visit. The swimming pool was a refreshing oasis, perfect for relaxation after a day of activities. And for sports enthusiasts, the sports centers provided ample opportunities for fun and recreation. Overall, Mac Island Park exceeded my expectations with its array of amenities and top-notch facilities, making my visit truly memorable.

Expérience négative: I can’t believe you changed all your change rooms / shower rooms to the swimming pool to universal (anyone can go in any mens, womens or family. The codes open to all) I think that’s extremely unsettling to know this was done without more of a community input. It’s disgusting, unsafe &wrong on so many levels Shame on you.. swimming pools are the top 5 place to be S/A. We are at risk as it is outside of washrooms why on earth would you give more access to supposed to be sacred and private space to shower change and get ready. For women , men and children if trans or whatever non bionary person wants their own washroom get it for them or use whichever already assigned washroom. U feel comfortable in… ex ;mens or womens .. don’t change the whole washrooms / shower to everyone and any one can access it * Universal*… that’s insane do you not see how wrong that is ?

Expérience négative: Used to be a great place to swim. The rules aren’t enforced anymore so many people don’t shower before getting in the pool. Not only that you can wear whatever you want! This pool is not as sanitary as it was back in the day. Update: there was someone wearing a soaked maxi dress and winter head ban in the sauna last night. Nothing like a safety and sanity hazard wrapped in one! Another update to the lady that thinks it’s okay to take pictures at the pool. The rules aren’t there to pick on you as you might think. Although I’m sure you are quite important. But the rules are there to help maintain the safety, cleanliness, and order at the pool. If everyone feels entitled to take pictures then it’s harder for the life guards to their jobs (ie making sure everyone can enjoy the pool without ending up on someone’s social media). A big thanks to that life guard for doing his duty as a life guard!!! Sad that this even has to be explained. Amplifies my points. Let the life guards do their jobs and for the love of good follow the rules so the pool can be enjoyable for EVERYONE not just yourself that’s how things use to work anyway.

Expérience positive: Is a great place but chose a horrible time to do maintenance on the pool. Right at the end of summer is not an ideal time to close the aquatic center for maintenance..

Expérience négative: I have been going to mac island since 2008 with no issues until tonight. I got refused entry at the gym because it took the staff 15 mins to resolve a membership band issue and I said a sware word and the manager punished me like we are in elementary school. One way for the management to go on a power trip . Moral of the story allow 15 to 20 mins prior to work out for the slow staff to figure out simple concepts.

I've lived in alberta for over 19+ years and haven't liked a rec center as Mac Island. Thanks to the sponsors and those who keep it open.

Expérience négative: Have to wait 20 minutes to scan in not ideal when working and u have limited time to go to the gym and have to wait 20 minutes out if your hr work out should be a better system for the amount of people

Expérience fantastique: I recently visited Mac Island Recreation Center and was blown away by the facilities and the staff. The pool was crystal clear and the waterslides were so much fun! The gym was well-equipped and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. In addition to the recreational facilities, the library at Mac Island is a fantastic resource. It has a great selection of books, video games , and other materials, and the staff there are always so helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Mac Island Recreation Center to anyone looking for a great place to swim, work out, or just have fun, as well as to anyone in need of a top-notch library. Expérience fantastique: Went for 18 holes. Great coarse not to hard just the right amount of hazards. $120 with the cart. Little pricey but still will go again.

Expérience positive: The facility itself is not bad. But the clientele that work out at the gym here h e no respect for anyone. There’s selfish people who hog 2-4 different machines. Even when it’s packed and everyone is trying to get a work out in. The people will sit on their phone or socialize for 20 minutes, or like previously stated, hog 2-4 different machines. No etiquette whatsoever

Expérience fantastique: Good gym, good atmosphere lots of amenities, friendly staff. my only thing is sometimes it can be a bit of a wait to sign in and get my gym band. But all and all great place.

Expérience négative: These praising reviews seem fake to me, there is not enough equipment in this gym! Limited number of fitness machine, there's only one Hip Abduction and Power Tower equipment, and people stand over other people's heads and wait in line forever for someone to be over with those equipment. Such a shame, there's so much space in the the gym, you should at least have TWO piece of each equipment! Disappointing

Expérience positive: It would be nice if this facility could accommodate a swimming pass only vs a hefty price of $80 a month for access to all of the facilities. With that access, the fitness classes are an additional $12 per class. The lockers cost $7 a week and you have to get a wrist band daily to access the pool. It just seems like a lot for a facility of this size and all of the people who pay to go there.

Expérience fantastique: This is my favourite thing about living in fort Mcmurray. The early bird golf membership is an awesome deal and having that combined with the 25% off of the yearly gym membership is amazing as well. When you get those two deals it’s still cheaper then a 7 day golf membership up the hill where you don’t get any discounts or even a members tag for your bag. The workout facilities are amazing with the track upstairs that gives you room to go stretch and the aquatic center is amazing with the sauna steam room and hot tub. Love this place and the staff does an amazing job and the workout equipment is always working it’s always clean and never down for repairs hardly ever. The facility is very clean and I spend hours here every week

Expérience négative: This place is too expensive just to play table tennis. $16 per person? Plus equipment if you dont have one. That's a ripped off. And they dont even have a proper place for it. Ceiling is too low and you cant even reserve a table. So basically people who wants to play are welcome to join. If 10 people playing that day and same time. 10x16$ and you take turns. Wonder why people stop going there to play. Instead of encouraging people to go out and be active, their goal is either you want to spend that much of money or stay home and watch tv. It is nice to have a day pass if you can use all that other stuff, like gym or swimming. But they dont even have swimming at the moment and still charge same amount.

Expérience négative: If you want to use the daycare, you only need a Membership Plus for YOURSELF. I was told I needed a FAMILY membership plus. Over the past 4 years or however long they have had the service, I paid thousands of dollars extra because I was given the wrong information. I found out when my senior father was watching my kids and wanted to put them in the daycare so he could use the track. They told him even though the kids are Plus members, they can't use the daycare unless I'm the one dropping them off. The manager had no solution other than for me to additionally buy my father a Plus Membership for a minimum 3 months. He was only visiting for 2. She wouldn't even waive 1 month in apology. I literally spent THOUSANDS of dollars extra in the last few years for my babies to have memberships that they never really used. Paying for the indoor playground separately ($2.50/kid) and getting 10 punch passes for the kids to use the pool sometimes would have made way more sense for my family than having a family membership plus. The website should also be clear that an "INDIVIDUAL Membership Plus" gets you the daycare. You don't need to buy a "Family Membership Plus". Also, why does it cost the same price for a family with 2 parents as a family with 1 parent? It's pretty sad and unfair that you guys charge widows and single parents the same as families with double the income. I love the rec center, I really do but the staff should be more knowledgeable and the customer service should be better. I am writing this review to warn other moms who are interested in using the daycare so they don't get ripped off like I was.

Expérience fantastique: First time here and let me tell you how impressed I was. Guest services was friendly and helpful. The facility is clean and well run. Washrooms were well maintained and very clean for being a very busy afternoon. They have a great Chopped Leaf restaurant inside for a snack after a swim.

Expérience fantastique: Gym is decent with not much crowd so you get to work out. Not many duplicate benches so you may have to wait for those. The stretching area is a bit congested I thought. Some eatery places on thr main floor Mr pretzels, second cup and chopped leaf. Other options are Swimming pool, hockey ring and courts. Library on the main floor. 7 day free pass to try out. But I personally feel there could be other options for the price. Overall good experience.

Expérience négative: After the seasonal maintenance, no hot tub, no steam and half the pool to use.same issues over and over. I find myself coming to the aquatic center Less and less. In the past 7 month I've been here a handful full of times, the steam sauna was never working. Closing at 9 pm is early in a city that most people work shift. Unfortunately this is the best the city has to offer :(

Expérience fantastique: I love everything about this place except for the entry fee. It is free to go to the library, and do go in there because it is lovely, but the rest of the activities are very expensive. The "cheaper" pass options are still what I consider horrendous. Listen, as a parent, I am not sure how anyone can afford for their children to regularly attend activities here. I did ask the staff if there was at least a reduced rate for lower income families. The answer was no. This concerns me. I can afford it now and my child is grown. I can't imagine that I would be able to afford this if I raised my child here.

Expérience négative: Front desk needs to know what they are offering at the facility, I asked if my kids could go rock climbing, they called down and said we could after paying for a family pass but their wasn’t much time left, so we paid and ran down to the rock climbing area just to be told one of my kids was too young and that the other two needed to have socks and weren’t allowed in. Put my hands up and told my kids it wouldn’t work tonight and I wished they told us that at the front!, walked back to the front desk to get my money back, they wouldn’t give my money back after being there for 5 minutes. Manager looked her co workers instead of me to say “can’t he just go do something else” very unprofessional.

Expérience positive: Very impressive rec centre. It can be expensive but they do have subsidies. If you think you and your family might be eligible, apply and see what happens. Many free events happen here as well as out if the box events (circus, rv show etc). The public library is located here as well as some nice restaurants and beauty businesses. I love spending time here with my family.

Expérience fantastique: I really love this place and all it has to offer. The pool is always nice and warm. Lifeguards are very friendly and are always quick to answer any questions. They are very kind especially to my son. He's a social butterfly and the Times we've gone swimming I can see his confidence levels rising with each visit. The indoor play area is also great for the littles to play in while the adults relax after swim sessions. The library is beautiful and so open and the staff are all very kind and helpful. All in all I have no complaints about mac island.

From outdoor sports to indoor gymnasiums, courts, gym, and even swimming, there is something for everyone who would like to get out of the house and be active. My favorite part by far is the pool, given that they have both lane swim, free float, and an amazing water park for the kids. One thing I didn't expect when arriving was learning that they have a golf course as well. The layout is thoughtful and expansive, giving room for expansions without compromising the feel and making it seem too big. The first thing to do is go in the entrance and grab a membership or multi pass because I guarantee you'll want to return.

Expérience fantastique: It was such a pleasure to provide technology here for the Oil Sands Conference and Expo! The staff were super helpful, the electrical of the place is good quality and well-labeled, the food was delicious (one meal pictured), and the loading access to the building, ramps, and elevators were very accessible and made it easy for us to accomplish the logistical aspects of the event. I even got to mix audio for a UCP Leadership Debate and got a photo with the new premier (also pictured), haha! Thanks so much for having us, hope to come back again some day!

Expérience fantastique: Biggest sport centre I have ever seen. This huge sport complex that has everything i.e big gym, indoor heated pools & even water slides for the kids, badminton courts, football, squash, ice hockey, etc etc, all indoor so can be used all year. All facilities are very clean & well maintained. Well worth to join as member to enjoy its many activites.
