Expérience fantastique: 15 Sessions In: My Muscles Have Opinions Now. I just finished my 15th session at OneUp, and let me tell you — my body has changed, my strength has skyrocketed, and I now measure time in soreness levels: Day 1 – Spicy. Day 2 – Regret. Day 3 – Empowerment. When I started, I could barely back press 80 lbs without feeling like I was lifting a small Honda. Now? I’m up to 100 lbs! My form? According to my trainer, it’s the best of anyone he trains. I can’t disclose his name because he told me to keep that compliment to myself . (Don’t worry, your secret’s safe-ish with me.) But this isn’t just about lifting heavy things while making dramatic noises. OneUp’s program is tight, efficient, and science-based. Just 30 minutes, once a week. That’s it. And yet? My metabolism is fired up, my body composition is shifting, my lower back pain is down, and I no longer have to brace myself when I sneeze. The trainers are kind, brilliant, and genuinely care about your health and goals. They know how to push you without making you cry (unless you’re into that kind of thing). I leave every session feeling like I’ve done something incredibly good for myself — even if I need to lie in the car for 10 minutes after. Expérience fantastique: I stumbled upon OneUp about a month into my "reboot my life" journey. I didn't know the first thing about going to a gym and was frankly way too intimidated to consider stepping into a regular gym. And I had NO knowledge of what to "do" in a gym. However, I wanted to add something new to my routine that would help me on my path to a healthier lifestyle. OneUp turned out to be the perfect solution. The idea of a space without crowds and having someone guide me through each workout was very appealing. Everyone I have encountered has been incredibly welcoming. Special kudos go to Paul, who made me feel like I belonged there from day one and made it easy to try something completely new. It's been nine months, and I can't say enough about what I get out of OneUp. Paul has taught me a lot and kept me motivated, not just with what I'm doing at OneUp but in all aspects of my journey. He consistently pushes me beyond what I ever thought I could do and makes me laugh hard while doing it. Honestly, it's one of the best parts of my week. Expérience fantastique: OneUp Nothing quite like OneUp is anywhere near where I live in BC. As a testament to how good I feel the OneUp system is, I travel from coast to coast to get it. Any time I’m near one of their 2 locations, I book as many sessions as they recommend on my short timeline. Some years, it is only once, and that has to do. When I lived in Nova Scotia, I wondered why people would travel hours for a half-hour session with these OneUp trainers once a week. There is no question that health & wellness has many theories, with various individuals claiming to have the best answers. Back then, I travelled from Stillwater Lake to downtown Halifax in 2006 to look. I found a workout with their system had an enormous impact on me. A half-hour was better than an hour at a more convenient gym. Their machines were superior, and the time doing the challenging but fun stuff one-on-one with the trainer was all the change needed to lose weight and gain muscle. Glad I looked into it. Do yourself a favour: It would be good if you looked too. I recommend booking a phone consultation. Expérience fantastique: Strength Confidence Performance I’ve had the pleasure of training and being coached by the owner, Matt. The focus and excellence in coaching me to get out of my comfort zone, to push myself farther than I could have imagined myself to do is what I believe differentiates OneUp from a typical gym experience. Three months later I am definitely stronger. That is evident in carrying out everyday activities, in my physical appearance and how clothes fit. That’s been the most exciting changes I’ve seen and others have told me they see. My confidence performing on the exercise machines has significantly improved such that I can achieve muscular failure in one set. The literature is abundant about the benefits this can bring. The entire team at OneUp all seem to have one goal. Get their clients stronger performing exercises in a safe manner with a time commitment of less than an hour a week. In my experience they have exceeded my expectations of what strength training is and the results I can achieve. Call them and try it out. It’s challenging. It’s hard work. And it’s life changing!

Expérience fantastique: I have been going to One Up for 5+years for strength training. About 18 months ago I stopped because I was told I was high risk for Osteoporosis and the Doctor told me to stop doing weights because I could fracture a bone. Instead I was put on a very strong drug that made me ill and I was told I’d be on it for 5 years. But good news! The hospital bone density test was wrong. They expunged my record. Always get a second opinion! I was told to get off the meds and to resume “light weights”. That’s when Matt and Mike explained to me that weight training is the very best thing for bone density. I’m happy to say that I’m back at it and I have never had a fracture in my life.

The evidence on strength training to promote bone density is pretty conclusive and shows that light weights will do little to nothing. As you’ve since learned it is how you lift that determines the safety of any exercise.

Expérience fantastique: I have been training at OneUp for much of the last 10 years - the trainers are exceptionally professional, knowledgeable, personable and encouraging, the facility is clean, quiet, quality and confidential, the online booking and experience at a training session are exceptional. And the results - I am amazed at how much increased strength and stamina I've developed from my 20-minute session twice a week.

Expérience fantastique: Review I’m a female in my 50’s and have been going to various gyms most of my adult life. A few months ago I joined One Up Fitness on the advice of a friend. I am only able to go once a week but within just a few weeks I began to see a noticeable difference in my body shape and tone which is remarkable considering the short amount of time I’ve been going. This is a very different way of working out and in my opinion it is the most bang for my buck that I’ve ever gotten at a gym. My trainer Matt is very knowledgeable and professional and pushes me much harder than I would ever push myself. He always explains in detail how to perform each exercise and what muscles we are targeting. I would not be attending a big box gym right now due to the coronavirus but these private training sessions are perfect. If you’re looking for a unique gym experience with amazing results this is it.

I can fit this in to a very busy schedule. Working with an experienced trainer one-on-one keeps me in and ensures I get the most out of 30 minutes. I would highly recommend!

Expérience fantastique: OneUp Fitness has allowed me to build strength and confidence after a major lower back injury. Even during the pandemic, we continue to meet virtually, and I’m still continuing to improve with weekly benefits of targeted exercise. Matt, is a fantastic trainer and coach, and provides detailed instructions and explanations relevant to each exercise. I’ve gone from worrying about picking up a bag of groceries to running around with my kids again.

Expérience fantastique: I've been training at OneUp in Bedford, once a week, for the past 3 months. Recently I decided to play gentlemen’s hockey again, after about 6 months off the ice. My first time back was for a charity hockey tournament in which I ended up playing four, one-hour hockey games over the span of 8 hours. All day, I was able to keep up with folks who were younger than me and I found I was hardly winded. I know this was a sure sign that my training at OneUp has improved my stamina, cardio, strength, and mobility. Putting in the work with quality equipment and trainers (for only a half an hour per week) has been a total game changer in my life. Thank you for two important things--my time and full-body physical fitness.

Expérience fantastique: Fantastic program! I work in the area as an engineer, and as a busy professional it has been extremely convenient to fit the half hour workouts into my work week. I'm able to get much more out of the workout in a short amount of time than I would on my own with a much longer workout. I came to OneUp Fitness after a lower back injury to get help safely performing strength training again. I had injured myself previously, but any attempts at strength training on my own was resulting in aggravation of the injury. The coaching I have had in workouts every week have provided me a safe environment to get stronger, and the confidence to do activities I had been missing out on post-injury. Would highly recommend.

Expérience fantastique: The old adage, “Use it or lose it” is true: At 61, I know this first-hand. I’ve always been athletic, but often in fits and starts. We now know that science tells us that maintaining strength is key to vibrant aging – that we don’t get sick because we get old, but because we get weak. So when I moved to Nova Scotia last spring to be more active in the lives of my grandkids, I researched fitness options, looking to challenge myself in safe, efficient and enjoyable ways. I was familiar with the concept of high-intensity strength training – an approach that promises minimal time requirements while producing maximum results - but had never tried it. Matt and his OneUp Fitness team truly deliver on this promise. During my initial twice-weekly 30-minute sessions (that’s it!) I learned how to step up to the OneUp Fitness challenge - determine my current capabilities then push past them. One-on-one coaching spurs on my progress. My workouts are always safe and efficient. They became enjoyable after spending a couple of weeks acclimatizing my body to the effort required. I look forward to seeing where my OneUp Fitness journey takes me, a journey I encourage everyone to take. Together, we can blast through those ever-present, ridiculously-limiting stereotypes about aging!

Expérience fantastique: I was looking for a few specific things in my search for a fitness program and comfortable training environment - a more efficient and effective workout that could be tailored to my specific health and fitness priorities, 1 to 1 training with expert coaches, and a professional training environment that focuses on tangible results rather than mass classes or rows of Lulu Lemon lined up on the treadmills. A friend mentioned One Up and, being curious, I tried out the introductory session. Their model is unique from the ubiquitous mass production gyms and fitness programs that saturate pop culture and the HRM. The One Up program is back by hard science, detailed research, and an explicit dedication to ensuring that clients meet their goals and progress to goals in a safe, incremental, and supported way. I can truly say that this is the best fitness program I have ever had. Why? Because of the combination of the instructors and the model of fitness generation. I work with Matt almost exclusively but all the instructors are similarly knowledgeable, engaging, supportive, and safety conscious. With Matt's encouragement and guidance in strength training, I hit new personal best performances almost every session and I have the tools to maintain this when I travel for work. It's also fantastic to know that after my targeted 30-minute workout, I know I've worked as hard as a much longer workout elsewhere but I can get dressed and go immediately back to work. Quite literally, they have it down to a science and I've achieved exciting goals as a result. I also completed the 6-week lifestyle coaching program with Matt. This program is designed to help support targeted fitness goals - whether weight loss or introducing a more balanced nutritional lifestyle, etc. This was a fantastic experience, providing 1 to1 meetings, body composition analysis, and planning/problem-solving. I gained lots of valuable knowledge about how to incorporate my paleo nutritional goals and lost 14 lbs over the course of the program. If you're looking for a safe, efficient and highly effective way to meet (or jump start) your fitness goals, I highly recommend One Up. In my opinion, they're the Number 1 fitness program in HRM for all people who are serious about regaining or protecting their health and fitness.
