Expérience négative: I am very disappointed with the way GoodLife Fitness has handled my membership cancellation. Two months ago, both my wife and I called to cancel our memberships. My wife’s membership was cancelled, but mine was not — and they continued to take money from my account. When I called today to resolve this, I spoke with a representative named Kitty. Not only did she tell me that without a cancellation email my membership “was never cancelled,” but her customer service was very bad and disrespectful. Instead of helping to resolve the issue, she was dismissive and unprofessional. It makes no sense that my wife’s cancellation went through on the same call, yet mine supposedly “did not.” This feels like GoodLife is more focused on taking payments than treating their members fairly. This experience has been frustrating, unfair, and extremely unprofessional. I would strongly caution anyone thinking about joining — make sure you get everything in writing, or you may end up paying for months after you’ve tried to cancel.

Expérience fantastique: It's a clean, well-equipped gym with all the amenities. The Fitness Manager seems to genuinely care about members, and my Personal Trainer Kate was very knowledgeable. If I wasn't moving I'd happily keep this as my gym for life.

One of the main reasons for having a membership here is the steam room- which is more often closed for maintenance than it is open. Other machines also take a very very long time to be fixed. Another change is my membership now randomly does not include towel service when it did for many many years. The other main issue I had was when I was told I was eligible for a corporate membership, and recommended I switch from my personal plan. Management emphasized to me that it would get me all the same perks/access as my current personal plan (aka hot yoga), and would be a cheaper bi-weekly cost. My personal plan was grandfathered in from pre-covid prices so was already very cheap, but agreed to switch to the even cheaper corporate plan. Shortly after, I started getting denied booking hot yoga on the app. When talking with management they told me that my new corporate plan in fact doesn't include hot yoga, and I would need to pay an additional fee to get access (more expensive than my personal plan). I requested to return back to my original personal plan, and they refused. They said I would have to pay the current pricing (post-covid, very expensive) if I wanted a personal membership with hot yoga again. The entire experience left a very bad taste in my mouth, and to be honest I've been on the hunt for a better gym since. Management throughout this experience were not accommodating at all, and it felt like they just wanted to find a way to get rid of my grandfathered personal plan. Not what you want to see from a gym I've been a member at for 8+ years!

Expérience négative: ** Update I did receive reimbursement for the damaged clothes** Aug 28 I'll start this out with saying I have been going here for the better part of 7 years. I love the location and the gym itself, but the way it is being run now is sad to see. Machines are broken often, facilities are often under repair, and lack of maintenance has been dangerous. I have had a door fall off of a locker and strike my foot. Thankfully it didn't hurt so I just pointed it out to management. It took about 2.5 months to repair that locker. The incident that really made me shake my head was my personal property (pants) were ripped on a nail sticking out. I get it these things happened and I filed a report and said they would be replaced. That hasn't happened and it has been 3 months. I have sent various emails just looking to recover what I spent to replace the pants. My emails weren't answered. I followed up in person 3 times now and was told it would be taken care and it never was. All this time I have pointed out 2 more nails sticking out to try and make sure this doesn't happen again. That being said I still like this gym, we have a good community there and enjoy my workouts there. Just wish management would take it more seriously and enforce rules more.

Expérience fantastique: Clean, well-equipped, and never feels overcrowded even during peak times. The staff are welcoming and quick to help if you need anything, and the variety of machines and free weights makes it easy to switch up workouts. I appreciate how bright and open the layout is, with lots of natural light and plenty of space between equipment. The change rooms are always tidy and stocked, and the atmosphere is motivating without being overwhelming. Easily one of the better gyms in the city.

Expérience fantastique: Really nice gym and their policies are so much different than other gyms. I’m a personal trainer and I use to work at world health club now. GTMVT for almost 20 years. What a different in policies. Whenever I wanted to put my gym membership on hold at Goodlife, it was no hassle. No problem. Done in two minutes. I just called to cancel and once again it was no rigmarole, no hassle and they did it over the phone!!. Other gyms make you come in and sign …they try to get you to stay, etc. etc. I don’t need a gym membership right now because I am currently working at a studio but when I need a gym membership again it will definitely be good life because of their amazing,no hassle holds and cancellations

Expérience fantastique: Best gym around Place is modern, torn “leather” on machines is almost non existent. Place is super clean. Only gripe is the patrons are pigs and throw towels around like mad. Other than that it’s the best gym I’ve found. Staff are fantastic

Expérience fantastique: It would be a good idea to warm up before you go there. And cool down after the session. We dove straight into the main activity. Not me farting through out the exercises... ️ Our leading lady was Leanne Van L ️ They got us by saying " you can just come and watch".⌚ I found myself getting busy and sweating. It was so good to be there, amongst people of different ages and different strength. There was an elderly lady carrying a 5 kg plate ( for one of the exercises) . Chile ... I was carrying a 1.5 kg plate ( don't judge me ). Body roll was intense !

First time in my life working out at a gym on a regular basis. Kate, you were fabulous. Expérience fantastique: Last December I renewed my membership at GoodLife (Brewery District). Feeling unmotivated to attend regularly I decided to get a personal trainer. The gym’s manager suggested I meet with Bambi and see if we might be able to figure out how to turn my lethargy into positive performance. I see Bambi three hours a week and just after 10 weeks I can say my time with her has been a life changer. She’s well versed in body kinetics and nutrition and is exquisite at keeping me accountable to my expressed wishes of increased strength and muscle gain. I am in my 6th decade on this planet but with her guidance and positive support I feel I’ve turned the clock back 15 years. Her skill level has meant that not only do I remain injury free but my muscle gain and energy levels have been phenomenal. As a personal trainer her attitude toward my training is nothing short of aiming for excellence which is just part of her nature. I would highly recommend Bambi's services if you’re struggling with any aspect of making the gym a regular routine in your life. She’s terrific! and the facility is top-notch. All staff there have been nothing but cordial. It's very well maintained with a great crowd of people all around....but Bambi Rocks!

Expérience fantastique: This gym is very busy but they have increased the amount of equipment and have lots of space, eg 10 squat racks and 10 stair climbers. Theres surface and heated underground parking for free

Expérience négative: It’s fine, gets the job done and every company gets discounts on membership. They’re far from proactive, even reactive is an overstatement. The place is falling apart and only gets fixed once it’s absolutely necessary. They use electrical tape to fix grips, there’s been a loose board in the sauna for years that just needs a nail or screw put in it. Cleaning is questionable, just a guy doing a surface level wipe down. There’s plenty of signs that deep cleans are rare.

They rarely greet you when you go in, act like it is an inconvenience to help you out, and blatantly ignore people. Expérience négative: Signed up as a member here when it first opened with the one club membership. Recently moved to be about 2 mins away from the clairview location so obviously just want to transfer my membership there. Was basically told by head office that they have no way to do this and that they would have to cancel my membership and then re-sign me up at twice the price. Come on. People move. It can’t be that difficult to simply enable my pass to be scanned at the new location. I guess that’s the thanks you get for being a member for years and years. Was told that they get other calls like this for the same situation. Well, figure it out. I guess they would rather lose members than fix a simple issue. No problem. I got a brand new membership at GYMVMT for only 2 dollars more biweekly and will happily work out there instead.

Expérience négative: I was warming up today in the morning, just was focusing on my body and trainer (I think he’s name was Reynald.. the guy with white hair) came up to me and told me to get out of the zone where I am now. That was very rude. I just work as a barber many years and I can’t imagine me doing that. The guys on reception said the manager will call me back but no one contacted me.
Hi Ivan, we ask that you please allow the manager to look into the situation first, as follow up is not immediate. You should receive a call within 24- 48 hours.
Expérience négative: Not a true 24 hour facility. The signage at the gym claims it is. Google does as well unless you expand the hours drop down. When someone sees: Open 24 Hours they don't think of expanding the window until they show up at the gym as they're closing early on the weekend...

Expérience négative: After 5.5 years attending this facility, cannot return to this gym on account of the cleanliness of the restroom areas. (Along with the whole gym in general) Urine and pubic hair always covering the floor beneath the urinals, which OBVIOUSLY tracks into the gym. This is absolutely a health concern as it will make its way onto the equipment. This is unacceptable for 60-80 per month membership. Downsides are that this is one of the filthiest gyms in the city. Almost no cleaning happens in the change room. Always garbage and dirt everywhere, gross mirrors, gross toilets, etc. They advertise 24hrs but close early 4 of the 7 days. It is only 24hr 3 days a week.

Expérience négative: The rabbit hill location is so dirty. Every session I probably pick up 3 pieces of garbage. There’s an inch of dust on the front of the stair masters, on the vents, filthy. Microfibre cloths from Costco and multi surface cleaners that attract dust work really good. Bathrooms are something else. Bring your slides.

Expérience négative: While I have had relatively good experiences with this gym, my workout partner and I recently had an experience with an off-duty instructor, which left a bad taste in our mouths. We had tried to contact management repeatedly with help from staff at the gym, but the management seemed to ignore our requests. This is extremely unfortunate, as we had always enjoyed our mornings at the gym but might have to go elsewhere if this is how the management deals with all issues brought to their attention.

Expérience négative: Worst sauna I've ever been in. Doesn't get hot at all because of the thin full glass door that doesn't even seal properly. Its so small that if someone opens the door 100% of what little heat built up is gone.

Expérience positive: Great facility, lots of equipment, lots of options, unfortunately none of it matters because it's the busiest gym in the entire known universe. If you have a schedule that allows you to go to the gym before 3 PM or after 10 PM this might be worth it. If you're a serious lifter who values your time, skip this place.

Expérience fantastique: Six squat racks each with self-mounted mirrors and cushioned platforms for deadlifting or Olympic lifts. Eleiko bars. I can't speak to everyone's goals but if yours involve a barbell this is a great place for it. It's been clean when I've gone and an elevator to heated underground parking is wonderful.

Expérience négative: they keep screwing up when i go to freeze my account when i leave the country for months at a time. they scammed me out of a month cause apparently i wasn’t “fast enough” to freeze the account. so be sure that you are “fast enough” to freeze your account (7 days prior to your next charge date) if your leaving for a while. so if i paid for January 1st & i’m leaving for feb, you have to tell them january 23rd or else your gonna get charged for the month of FEB. they’re deadlines and rules for these things are ridiculous. i also had a personal strength trainer & i couldn’t make 1 session & i was still charged because again, i wasn’t “fast enough”.. you have to let them know 48 hours before your session if you have to cancel. i know it’s not the employees but it’s a terrible ran corporate gym. money grabbing gym to be honest. i would not recommend this corporate ran gym to anyone. your better off with a smaller gym if you can find one. pay by the month at the counter & not have automatic withdraws. these corporations are scam artists

Expérience fantastique: This review is for Monica Lopez manager for group fitness. I first meet Monica at a other gyms zumba class. Wow what a breath of fresh air. Though suffering thru debilitating headaches this class made me so happy. I could say hundreds of good things. There are some people who come into your life who have a huge positive impact. Monica is this. She takes the time to send positive messages and answer all my texts. Anyone I meet who knows her feels that energy. She's an incredible woman. Goodlife is lucky to have her.

Expérience positive: The place is spacious, clean, and very overcrowded. The concern I have is that they have only two leg press machines, one leg extension, and one leg curl machines! There is always line up, or you just have to come up with some alternative yourself using weights, steps etc. When it's my leg training day I either come very early in the morning or late in the evening. Very inconvenient. These are basic machines and the most popular ones. Such big and busy gym should have more of the basic equipment. That's what I really dont like about this gym and thats what made me search for a new one.

Expérience positive: I used to enjoy my workouts here late at night when it was empty & relaxed. My work schedule's changed and the times I go now, it's too busy for me. I feel overwhelmed trying to find available equipment. There's been some machines out of order for weeks as well which doesn't help. The demographic is generally already very fit people. I hate it here

Expérience négative: Poorly managed. I was the subject of S. harassment at the Brewery District Goodlife. I reported it to management, and even wrote a thorough account of the incident. Several other members and even a goodlife employed fitness trainer advised of the same behaviour from the same individual. No one ever contacted me for an investigation, nor have they spoken to the other affected members. I am told that the offender was banned for a short period. As recent as 6 weeks ago I was informed that the same offender is continuing his behaviour. Go figure, a short suspension didn't take the S. predator out of the offender. For a crime to occur, you require 3 elements - a victim, an offender, and a location. You knowingly (or failed to properly determine) provided 2 of the essential elements. All victims need to do is show up, the rest covered. Disappointed.

Expérience positive: Although advertised as one, this is NOT a 24hr gym. It’s open 24 hours 4 days of the week. GoodLife has enough money to keep it open and I’m sure there’s employees who want the shifts or people who would love to work there. This gym is also known as a “cruising” gym (google the term) and I’ve had more than a handful of experiences of men following me into the steam room to hit on me and a few of those experiences were VERY uncomfortable. I reported the worst one to the staff, but I don’t think anything was really done about it. Great equipment and facilities though!

Expérience positive: Decent amount of machines and racks. All new. Management is hard to get a hold of via email and doesn’t respond to the general email. If you’re looking for a personal trainer it might be a good idea to have a chat with the individual trainer at first as some are much better than others. I recommend Mike, bald guy if there is more than one Mike. Men’s change room is always full of used towels everywhere and the toilets are usually not the cleanest. It’s a fairly decent place to get a workout except for the details I mentioned. If they picked up the cleaning in the change rooms or held the members accountable somehow for cleaning up after themselves it would be a 4 star.

Expérience positive: So I had a 24hr fitness membership (US based) and found out that they have a partnership with GoodLife and allowed each others members to use the facilities when visiting as far as I am aware there may or may not be an actual time length specified. I used that benefit when visiting but eventually one of the managers basically said I should purchase a membership at some point. For what ever reason that is/was. Next I purchased the promo for new years, apparently you need to have a Canadian Bank account to have taken advantage of that offer which there was no mention of it. So the rep said they would see if they could reimburse me for the 1x payment made. Then I was told that I’d have to pay $30-$40 more since it’s not coming from a bank. The membership I think is a bit pricey and no discounts for students. Great Facility overall. For me it’s just 2x strikes already, I’m undecided if I’m going to become a member or want to use my supposedly free passes from 24hr fitness to avoid the awkward “you should probably get a membership at some point” comment/judgment.

Expérience positive: I love this location and have been coming for years. The staff always greet you when you come in, and I always see staff going around cleaning, replacing paper towels, and making sure things are running smoothly. I’ve attended various classes, and always love the instructors and return regularly. My only wish, and this is more reflective of other patrons, is that the volume/talking/ electronic device noise is more respected both outside and inside the Yoga studio. More obvious signage may be needed. People come out from high energy workouts and don’t pick up on the vibe of the yoga area. Other than that, I love it!

Finally done months later! Now if they could ever manage to buy decent cardio equipment with working TVs what’s with every gym having this problem or like they want to piss you off just enough to insure you rarely enjoy your premium membership!

Expérience négative: Half the cardio machines are broken at the Edmonton brewery district location. I just tried 5 different bikes, all made noises and weren’t working properly. It’s always packed, always waiting for space, weight machines, benches, squat bars, basically everything. So frustrating. This gym is high volume, you need to maintain it, goodlife.

Had some issues signing up at the beginning for the membership so KAAN helped me get some compensation for that. I highly recommend this gym and go see KAAN. Always motivates me. Expérience positive: Very nice facility, the main issue is for the amount of money you pay you would hope that would go into the upkeep of the equipment. Instead machines are left for months with “not in service” stickers and members are told they are waiting for parts. I would hope that if parts are that long of a wait they would have enough money to buy a new piece of equipment instead of having their members left with limited machines. The same goes for the steam room always being out of order. This was already discussed with management and nothing came from it except for “COVID delays”. As for the building, GoodLife is on the second floor and the elevators seem to always be out of order. I know this is a building issue and not in the hands of the gym but it is a huge accessibility issue for GoodLife members who are unable to climb the stairs to get up to the second floor. I hope this is brought up. A huge positive is the staff. They are always very welcoming and willing to help you out.

Please make this location 24 hours every night (especially weekends, when many people can work out later because they don't have work the next day). It's packed here during peak hours; the least that could be done is offering 24 hours every day for people trying to avoid that.

Expérience négative: I’ve been going to this for over a year now, and I’m not impressed. The kick back machine was broken for 3 months. The pads on the leg extension needed to be replaced a while ago. For the amount of people that go to this gym you should have it fixed asap. It’s too busy to have stuff broken for that long. And also you can’t have 24 hour on your logo if your not even open till 10 on Saturday. I would not continue to go here if I had another option close to home.

Expérience négative: I attended Hot Vinyasa Yoga with Allison at Brewery District GoodLife. I have attended numerous classes with Alex, and absolutely loved them! Today I decided to try a class with Allison, big mistake on my part. I would consider myself fairly comfortable with taking hot yoga classes, and usually can keep up okay. This class was one of the worst yoga experiences I’ve ever had. Allison was late for class, and asked other participants to guide the initial flow. She spoke in a very condescending and rude tone of voice. She often would give verbal instructions, but not actually demonstrate the pose. And then would call out people for doing it wrong. If you are new to yoga I highly advise you to not attend a class with Allison. She talked the entire time, no music. The class was boring and not my cup of tea. She did not make me feel welcome and instead made me feel stupid for not doing poses correctly. She never asked my permission to give corrections, and made me feel very uncomfortable. The class was not enjoyable and I will never be doing a class with Allison. Maybe I’m missing something? But I have no clue why someone would enjoy taking a class like that. I give it zero stars. I will keep returning to hot yoga with Alex!

There's a decent amount of cardio equipment and I appreciated the multiple sections accessible for free weight work. Expérience négative: I have been a member at Good Life for 4+ years now, and I just recently moved downtown, so this is my new go-to location. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed with this facility. The space is beautiful and overall, the facility had everything to be the best in town. However, because the staff is super cold and unwelcoming, this is the worst location in the city! When I arrive, they don't ever say hello, or even make eye contact. I have been coming here for 6 months already, and the only time I was greeted was by the manager. The front staff spends most of their time talking to each other, sitting at the desk by the woman's changing room. I really do not understand why they are there. But what drove me to write a review after so long was the yoga instructor Allison! She is definitely EXTREMELY knowledgeable about yoga. However, teaching requires much more than simply knowing what to do or being an expert in the subject! I have recently upgraded my membership to engage in the classes that good life has to offer, and yoga has been something that I really wanted to get into for the longest time. My first class was with Alexander, which was SUPER wonderful (he deserves 1000000 starts). He engages with the class in a super non-judgemental way and recognizes that each individual there is at a different level of their practice. He corrected me in such a caring and delicate way and made me feel super welcomed. I am grateful to have such an amazing instructor. However, when I went to Allison's class, I had the WORST experience of my life. Goodlife fitness always promotes a welcoming environment for all types of bodies and all types of fitness levels. But this instructor, in particular, does NOT promote the goal of the company. I felt so constrained and disappointed with her class to the point where I am hesitant to cancel my membership. She screams and corrects people in such a shameful way. During her class, she only talked. She did not guide the class by showing us how to execute the poses. As a beginner, I had to rely on the person beside me to understand what to do. She even brought up language barriers. How she could speak another language if someone did not understand what she was saying. But simply telling people what to do when they're not experienced is not enough! It is the same thing as taking in a sedentary individual and telling them to go do a Sotts Press. For someone advanced, that might be super easy, but for the beginner, it might be challenging to understand what that is, even though they might understand what it is. It is still extremely important to know the proper format. Otherwise, an injury can happen! Allison is super RUDE! and to make up for that, at the end of her class, she says, "If you guys don't like discipline, don't come to my class, I am here to teach you real yoga". First of all, Allison didn't teach. She just stands there telling people what to do and screaming at them. The second thing is that there is a big difference between discipline and insolence. The third thing is this instructor needs to realize that people come to the gym to LEARN and to relieve stress. Her approach is terrible!!! It really sucks paying for a membership and not being able to fully enjoy the experience!. Every time I wanna go to a yoga class, her name is on the schedule. I give up. That just goes to show how knowledge is not the only factor necessary to teach. Passion and compassion for people are super important!

Expérience positive: Definitely one of the better gyms in the city. Staff are very friendly for the most part (shout out to Isaac!) but there are some grouchy girls that work the front desk. Came in 1600 hrs on New Year’s Day 2023 and a female at the front desk was quite rude. Otherwise awesome facility and great value!

Expérience fantastique: Martin is amazing as a trainer. Everything hurts. I am sleeping better, looking better, feeling better, and eating like a horse. We did squats yesterday and I am seeing amazing progress. I am training for a 2024 marathon and a 2024 triathlon and the support on nutrition and strength is helping me get back into the spandex. Expérience négative: Nice gym. The hot yoga class with Allison was the worst class in my life! She was late and ranted for the first 10 minutes, she grabbed me forcefully a few times without asking first, the one time I almost fell over because I wasn’t expecting her to carry my hips(?). She was strict, it wasn’t relaxing at all. On the other hand, Samantha has the most enjoyable hot yoga classes! She’s always well prepared, on time, smiling and welcoming.

Expérience fantastique: Great location ,Amazing staff the gym is super clean follow all precautions. The staff mandate cleaning the machines . There is plenty of machines for everyone . The only thing I like to see more are Kleenex on the cleaning stations The only thing I wish is that they had Kleenex out on the floor

Expérience négative: I've taken a lot of classes with Alex, and I've always loved them! Recently, I attended Allison's class (and it was a nightmare!!!). I suppose I could say that I feel pretty at ease doing hot yoga. However, I had the worst hot yoga experience with Allison. Allison used a tone of voice that was quite nasty and condescending while guiding the class. She instructed others verbally without modelling the desired stance. And would then correct those who were doing it incorrectly by screaming or shaming them. There was no music and she spoke the entire time. Instead of making me feel welcome, she made me feel foolish for not performing the positions properly. She touched me without ever asking my permission, which was quite unnerving. It was a very boring, uncomfortable and very wired class!. I would honestly give 0 stars for her class if I could!.
