Expérience négative: The worst GoodLife location I have visited. I’ve had multiple concerns with this gym but the most pressing is the broken equipment. Red out of order signs everywhere. Out of the 8 stair master machines this gym has, half are out of order, one of which has been that way for over 6 months. When inquiring when equipment will be fixed, answers did not make sense for a big name gym. One of the only reasons I would pay for a GoodLife membership is for top end equipment which lower priced gyms don’t offer. You would think with the price of memberships, at a busy location, they could fix or replace broken equipment in a timely manner. Looking at other reviews, I’m not the only one with concerns about this location. Disappointing.

Expérience fantastique: The facilities were clean and the environment was one of the best I’ve been to in all of Canada! Special shoutout to Orion, Alex and Stefanie!! They were super kind and amazing staff members and carried themselves with the upmost professionalism! They made the entire process super easy and had the best attitude! I was only visiting this location for a few days, but will definitely share this location with friends and family in the area!! I highly recommend this location to anyone looking to get a good workout in with some great people!

Expérience fantastique: It’s an amazing gym full of kind members that respect each other and clean the equipment after each use. The staff always greet me on my way in and out of the gym, and that always makes me feel glad that I got myself to show up to my workout. The trainer Marib, in specific, is amazing at giving you feedback and tailoring a workout plan to your goals. In addition, the associate Orion is a beast at folding towels into perfect tight rolls; I feel bad unrolling them when I need to actually use my towel lol

Expérience positive: Hey GL Richmond, Calgary! I have noticed that there has been a significant decline in hand grips for the cable weight machine. I estimate that there should be a hand grip per cable, my quick estimate suggests there should be at least 10 sets of grips and carabiners. I watched users try to take fixed grips off machine because there are only 3 sets of grips available, where are the grips and carabiners ? When is there going to be a replenishment?
Expérience négative: The way I was treated at the GoodLife Fitness Richmond Square location was completely unacceptable and honestly disgusting. The manager decided to confront me and my friend in front of everyone at the gym, making assumptions about what we were doing without even bothering to ask or speak to us privately. It felt humiliating, degrading, and completely uncalled for. We were doing nothing wrong just trying to get a workout in like everyone else yet we were singled out, talked down to, and made to feel like a problem for absolutely no reason. It was condescending, unprofessional, and embarrassing. Multiple members even came up to us afterward to check if we were okay, which only confirmed how inappropriate the situation really was. After this experience, I emailed GoodLife with my concerns when canceling my membership and all I got was an automated response. That just shows how little they actually care about their paying customers or how they’re treated in their facilities. I’ve canceled my membership and won’t be returning. If you care at all about being respected as a person, avoid the Richmond Square GoodLife.

Expérience positive: Update: I just met with the manager, Brittany, and she was very kind and took the time to explain the situation. It seems it may have been a misunderstanding, and I really appreciate her professionalism and clarity. The space is ok with good variety of equipment. Most staff members are nice and always smiling. One of the personal trainers felt the need to get herself involved in a rude way (She literally behaved as if I was some criminal trying to run into the gym without paying ) while I was sorting out a payment issue with a an other staff member at the reception. I get that some people can be unhappy with their job but members do deserve to be respected at all times specially that it's not easy to show up at the gym with our very busy schedules Cancelled my membership today and I will happily workout in the FREE gym provided where I live.

GoodLife Fitness Calgary Richmond Square 50-3915 51 St SW, Calgary, AB T3E 6N1 I honestly don’t understand how such complete chaos, carelessness, and disrespect for clients can happen at one of the largest fitness centers in the city. GoodLife Fitness managed to turn a simple visit into a ruined birthday, a ruined mood, and complete disappointment. Here’s what happened: We had pre-booked tanning sessions — 5 minutes for me, 9 minutes for my wife. Everything was confirmed. When we arrived on time, we were told on the spot that the tanning room was under some kind of “Lockout” and wouldn’t be available for another 30 minutes. Why weren’t we informed in advance by phone? Why did they wait until we were physically at the front desk to tell us? We could’ve spent that time differently. Especially since this was my wife’s birthday and our entire day was carefully planned. We reluctantly agreed to reschedule for 2:00 PM. There were four staff members at the front desk, all of whom apologized, and we repeated our booking details three times — 5 minutes for me, 9 for my wife. We confirmed it over the phone, again when rescheduling, and once more in person before the new time slot. When it was finally time, we were suddenly told we couldn’t use the tanning room without protective goggles. This was never mentioned before — in fact, last time it wasn’t even required. No rental or notice was offered in advance, so we had to purchase goggles on the spot. Then came the real mess. They said everything was ready — just go in, press the button, and tan. No one told us there had to be a cleaning break between sessions. I followed their instructions, tanned for 5 minutes, and exited. My wife went in immediately after me, just like we had planned, but her session shut off after only 5 minutes instead of 9. We called the number posted in the room — someone promised to connect us to the front desk so they could extend the time. We waited. Nothing happened. So I had to walk back to the front desk and explain the situation again. The same staff we had already spoken to four times apologized again and admitted they had simply forgotten. It took me explaining it three more times before they finally added the missing 4 minutes. But while my wife was finishing those 4 minutes, someone knocked on the door. It was a man we hadn’t seen before — turned out he was a yoga instructor, possibly named Syryp. He tried to calm us down and explained that between tanning sessions there should be a cleaning break — something no one ever told us during booking or on-site. He admitted his coworkers were at fault and agreed that we were not properly informed. Why was he the only one to come speak with us? Why did all four front desk staff disappear by the time we were leaving? No one came to follow up, offer any closure, or even say goodbye — we were just left frustrated, disappointed, and ignored. ⸻ In summary: • Promises were broken. • Staff were completely disorganized. • Clients were left to resolve mistakes themselves. • The service quality was unacceptable. • The entire experience ruined what was supposed to be a special birthday. No compensation, no solution — just endless “sorry.” We’re not asking for the impossible — just respect, attention to detail, and professionalism. Perhaps management will consider not only apologizing, but offering a small gesture of compensation to help smooth over this extremely unpleasant experience and rebuild trust. Rating: 1 star.

Expérience positive: Not my favourite Goodlife location, mainly due to the odd hours. 24 hours only 3 days a week and early weekends is inconvenient. Womens sections is ok but not as nice or spacious as other locations ive been to!

Expérience positive: Overall happy with this gym. Definitely a smaller one with not as many machines. I just hate how it advertises as 24 hours (it’s not, only on some days). You’d think the days that are actually 24 hours would be the weekend.. but they close early on weekends. The hours are so strange to me and has Made me go elsewhere for the most part.

Expérience positive: The layout and machine and staff are all great at this facility. I prefer it's layouts to other locations throughout Calgary. It loses a star because I feel as though marketing it as 24 hours is a bit disingenuous if its only 4 days a week. Also the wifi here is unusable for watching videos while doing cardio. And lastly it is lacking some features other facilities have like a recovery room.

On my third day at this particular facility, I was unexpectedly approached and questioned about my account status while in the middle of changing in the locker room. The situation was handled in an unprofessional and intrusive manner, making for an uncomfortable and embarrassing experience. This matter could have been addressed in a far more discreet and professional way, such as through a private conversation at the front desk. Instead, the approach not only caused unnecessary confusion but also drew undue attention from other gym members, creating an awkward and avoidable situation. It’s disappointing to see that customer service seems to have fallen by the wayside, as I have since noticed similar concerns raised in other recent reviews. The lack of professionalism, and basic courtesy appears to be a recurring issue with other reviews I’ve read, which is unacceptable for a business that claims to prioritize member experience. Beyond the poor handling of this situation, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unwelcomeness at this location—an experience that stands in stark contrast to other club locations I’ve visited. A gym should foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all members, yet that was not the case here. Given my experience, I cannot recommend this facility to those seeking a space where customer service and member experience are truly valued.

Expérience positive: Great gym and staff. My one serious complaint is that despite GoodLife having a healthy living mandate, they offer tanning machines which as per the World Health Organization are classified as carcinogenic ie: known to cause skin cancer. I know it is choice - but there are no warning signs to communicate this to clients. My request would be to put warnings on the machines as sadly many people don’t realize these machines are just as dangerous as the high UV that emits from the sun. Thanks!

Expérience positive: The renovations are really nice and I like coming here, only 3 stars because I feel like they need to put up signs to remind people to wear deodorant. There's a person that comes in the early mornings and you can't even workout next to them on the treadmill. It's pure, sweaty BO and it's so not nice to have that in my nose at 6am. Lol. Too scary to say something to that person as I am someone who hates confrontational situations otherwise it's a great gym!!!

One particular staff member that is especially awesome who I'd like give a shout out to, is Braden. It always great to see him whenever I stop by for my workout as he is upbeat and easy going. Expérience négative: Avoid signing a long-term personal training contract with GoodLife Fitness! I am sharing my experience to warn others against entering into personal training contracts with GoodLife. Over the past year and a half, I paid more than $14,000 in advance for training sessions (40, 80, or 100 sessions at a time). However, my experience took a major downturn when they changed my personal trainer without any notice and then asked me to reduce my training frequency from five sessions per week to three, all based on their new trainer’s availability—not my needs or schedule. To make matters worse, I have a lower back disc issue that requires special attention. My previous trainer was in regular contact with my chiropractor and massage therapist to monitor my progress closely. The new trainer had no such involvement. I requested a refund for the 49 remaining sessions (which amounts to more than $3,500), but GoodLife refused. Initially, the manager requested a doctor's note, which I provided. Even then, they declined my refund, citing the fact that I had paid in full upfront. If I had opted for installment payments, they claimed they could have canceled with a 15% penalty. This is not only misleading but deeply unfair to loyal clients. Additionally, by having a clause in the contract that effectively says "YOU MAY NOT CANCEL," they give themselves the freedom to make whatever changes they want, with no regard for the client’s situation or schedule. This puts customers in a powerless position, allowing the company to make unilateral decisions about training schedules, trainers, and policies, without recourse. I am currently in contact with a lawyer and pursuing legal action. I felt compelled to share this to ensure others do not fall into the same trap. GoodLife's disregard for their clients’ health conditions, lack of communication, and refusal to honor refund requests is unacceptable.

Expérience négative: This location is horrific. The equipment is extremely old and not maintained and not to mention crammed into small spaces. The lighting is also awful. During my drop in workout this morning a cable broke and sent the bar flying into the bridge of my nose splitting it open and sending me to the clinic for a tetanus shot and bandages. GoodLife needs to close this location and give it a serious update.

We were greeted by Steve, who was so upbeat and full of energy that the next morning we returned and signed up for memberships for the whole family! Svetlana is an incredible new addition to GoodLife Richmond Square, and I’m so glad I recently joined her Zumba class. Her dance skills are amazing, her moves are beautiful, and she brings such professionalism to every session. Each class is full of energy, with fantastic music and choreography that make you want to keep dancing. It’s like a party and a workout all in one, and it honestly feels like therapy for both body and mind. They found everything safe and where I actually left them in locker 86... Thank you for not making me feel like more of a bone head than I already did. Great people working there. Will visit again.

Expérience fantastique: It's hard to think life could get any better until you train with Bohdan Makhanov. Bohdan can tailor sessions to meet your personal goals be it around temporary/permanent injuries or to train for competition. Bohdan's knowledge goes beyond the "regular" trainer. His deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, body sculpting, bodybuilding, and so much more, combined with a supportive, encouraging, fun and welcoming disposition will have you wishing you had included personal training in your health and fitness regime years ago...as a "gym rat" for decades, you simply cannot train like this on your own... Thank You GoodLife for having Bohdan Makhanov on your team!

Expérience négative: It's a great gym especially after the upgrade, however. They still DO NOT CHANGE THE BULBS in the damn tanning beds/booths. Very annoying when you were paying for tanning and had below subpar equipment... I've heard from MULTIPLE employees that have been there for a year + and they've never been told or seen anyone change the bulbs. So I'll give a better rating once this is done REGULARLY

Expérience négative: I am appalled to hear how my students were treated at this location. I am the homestay parent for international students (Nicolas, Sam, Peter). We encourage them to be active during their stay in Calgary, even suggested they sign up for gym membership, rec centers, etc. For my students to tell me that they were treated harshly trying to sign up is totally unacceptable. Sure, you have policies in place requiring guardians present to sign for them, not a problem, no issues there. However, for the staff to speak to them in a condescending manner, rude with an angry tone of voice is not something you would want to represent your business. If this is how my students are going to be treated, I will be sending them somewhere else.

Expérience fantastique: Shoutout to Hannah Dube, Personal Fitness Advisor, at the Richmond Square location. She showed me around, showed me the ropes, and hooked me up with a personal trainer. She was professional, intelligent, and kind, but also able to laugh with me when my answers to her questions needed that response. Expérience négative: Ive been coming to this gym for the last 4 months and so far it has been great , excellent machines, clean facilities and friendly staff. Today was quite the exception, i came in to get a workout with my 17yo friend , i was told i couldn't because im neither his parent or legal guardian. I undertand the rules and i dont mind, the only problem was the attitude given to me by the staff. They guy that assisted us first was very nice and very professional, i think he did great , however when we got passed on to a lady we got treated like garbage, she didnt even let us finish speaking , very agressive tone of voice and instead of defuse the situation, she told us if we wanted to call the manager , we couldn't because of time constraint. Im really disappointed with the treatment today from that lady and i hope management takes action on the attitude of their employees towards costumers and teach them how to difuse situations withput making it worse. Finally praise to the guy who remained cool and professional, i come everyday and i see him everyday and he is always very kind.

Expérience négative: Overall great gym. BUT I used a machine in the personal training area (which was empty) and was told by the staff “you can’t be here” . The same machine was broken in the public area. I told him it was broken and asked to use the machine in the personal training area. He said no. Other GoodLife’s gym doesn’t mind as long as doesn’t take away from people who pay for personal training and need it.

While we cannot speak to what other clubs practice, we will confirm the associate was correct in this case. We suggest speaking with the front desk next time to see if there is a different machine that you can use :)
Expérience positive: Lots of the usual equipment but it can be extremely busy and you have to wait or adjust your workout accordingly. It also always has a musty or sewer smell that I wish they could address.

Expérience négative: If you're going to continue to run the club over capacity, please consider bringing on additional staff during busy times to help keep the facility reasonably clean. Washroom area was filthy, with liquid and paper all over the floor and smells of urine. Substantial melted snow and slush on floors and inside lockers despite numerous signs posted on the entrance doors and check-in counter asking members to remove outside footwear. Cleanliness is a real issue at this location and existing staff levels are simply not able to keep up.

As a devoted member, I ponder where the threshold lies between a thriving business and the comfort of its members. The nearby Gold's Gym opening soon it is tempting with its spacious layout and ample equipment, only a short drive away. The current overpopulated state and limited equipment at our gym might prompt some to explore alternative options for a more seamless workout experience.

Expérience positive: The whole place has a faint mold smell. The men's showers however just have full blown mold. This location was just renod 2 or 3 years ago. Black mold is a pretty big thing to miss.

Expérience négative: I have been a Goodlife member for many years. I wanted to bring someone for a workout today and unless they sat through an orientation they would not be allowed a free pass. They would have to pay $25. to work out. Needless to say I am canceling my membership asap.

We are unable to offer free entry to use the gym as it is a paid service. It sounds like the Associate was offering a free visit with a tour which would be correct.

Expérience négative: So many of the staff here are awesome trainers and many front desk staff. They are not the reason for the one star review. The management at this gym is a nightmare. The staff turnover here is insane and you can really see the clear reason why no one works here for very long. No one wants to work for poor management. I really feel for the employees here, it's not hard to see what a toxic environment this place is
