Expérience positive: This location has gotten better over the years. There’s more equipment, it was rearranged, and just overall works better. Staff are very friendly and helpful. 4 Stars due to the people who go to this gym. Had my water bottle stolen from the change room today while I was using the washroom for 2 minutes, my toileyry bag got stolen two weeks ago. Really disappointing to not be able to trust the some of the gym community members who go here.

Expérience fantastique: Adam at the front was beyond amazing and helpful; we booked a BodyComp with (I believe it was Kari) it was the 5pm one. Never had such a great workout. She was supportive and explained the whole thing so well. The vibe at the gym was awesome and everywhere was clean and organized. I’m so glad I switched to GoodLife!

Expérience fantastique: I started personal training with AMANDA 3 months ago and it's been brilliant, she's such an expert and able to tailor training sessions so that it's CHALLENGING and FUN! I don't know how she did it but I managed to LOSE WEIGHT and GAIN MUSCLE so far! THANK YOU AMANDA!

Expérience négative: Gym equipment is okay overall but it’s the worst sauna I’ve seen anywhere in my life. It thinks it reach’s 90C within three minutes of being on. However according to the infrared thermometer I’ve brought, it’s only 50-60 C. I’ve brought this up multiple times over a number of weeks but management seems to refuse to fix it

I worked with Emily at the Mount Royal location for seven months and reduced fat, built muscle, and learned how to train properly and without injury. Emily developed routines that fit my age and health condition. I learned to confidently use equipment. She was diligent and shared many tips on nutrition to further enhance results. I highly recommend Emily to women who want to stay strong, improve their balance and build bone density.

While in town on business and looking for a drop-in, i came across this wonderful gym nestled in an old Bank. Super helpful and kind they went above and beyond expectations in getting me settled. I’ve been going for over a month now at all different times yes there is a busy time bout 3-6 pm but everyone is very nice if you need something specific ask how many sets and wait your turn ..staff is super friendly and do not push anything on you I’ve dealt with cole he was awesome and Monty at the front is a super nice as are the others im sure the bad reviews are people that have no idea what gym etiquette is in the first place and are the type that want their own way or they turn into Karen’s if you Are thinking bout signing up you should has everything plus a little more don’t let the reviews trick you the Ratings should be much higher

The 24/7 access is a huge win, allowing me to fit in workouts regardless of my schedule. The diverse equipment selection supports both rigorous cardio and strength training routines, making it easy to get a quality workout. That said, a few areas could use improvement. The gym is relatively small, so during peak hours, it often feels too busy compared to other GoodLife locations, which can disrupt the workout flow. Additionally, the towels provided leave something to be desired—they’re neither very soft nor particularly absorbent after a heavy session. The dry sauna also consistently feels underheated and doesn’t deliver a truly restorative experience. It would be a great enhancement if tanning services were available, offering an extra perk for members. Despite these drawbacks, GoodLife Fitness Calgary Mount Royal Village remains a convenient and well-equipped option for anyone seeking 24/7 access to a quality workout space. With a few thoughtful enhancements, the overall experience could be even better.

Expérience négative: Had a really disappointing experience with the staff at this location. I’ve been visiting for the past four days after a long break, and today while working out, I suddenly felt pain in my right shoulder. I stopped immediately and approached a staff member (personal trainer) to ask for a simple stretch or suggestion to relieve the pain. To my surprise, he told me that since I don’t have a personal training membership, he couldn’t help me and instead suggested I get one if I wanted advice. It felt incredibly inconsiderate — almost like unless you’re paying extra, your well-being doesn’t matter here. In contrast, the staff at the Stephen Avenue location have always been helpful and willing to give guidance when needed, even if it’s just a quick suggestion, and they ask politely afterward if you'd like personal training. I would not recommend this location based on this experience, and it’s likely the last time I’ll be coming here.

Expérience fantastique: Definitely one of the best gyms I've been to, extremely spacious and the atmosphere is beyond welcoming. The recovery room is a great addition and very conducive to my recovery after a heavy workout. I highly recommend the personal trainer, Jackson who is extremely knowledgeable and takes a personal approach to his clients needs. He is very encouraging and motivational but gentle with regards to his clients' needs. He also accomodated my capricious schedule with the upmost efficiency. If you want to see the best version of yourself, this is the guy. Shout out to Cole who paired me with this particular coach because he knew his MMA and boxing experience aligned with my fitness goals. 5 stars, would give 6/5 if possible

Expérience fantastique: My home flooded so we were in need of a gym for a few months while the repairs took place. After signed up, I had my first fitness session, and I was paired with Jeremy. He was extremely helpful and friendly, and genuinely interested in boosting my wellbeing and fitness level. He was able to carefully balance pushing me harder with kindness and achieveability. He showed me proper technique and new exercises I can add into my routine. If you’re a relative beginner, need help with form, or even just someone to push you further, I could not recommend Jeremy enough!

Expérience négative: I’ve lost ~60 lbs going to GoodLife locations around Calgary & I personally find it incredibly empowering to snap a progress pic when I finish my workout. So it’s very disappointing to see this sign when I walked into the women’s room. I understand the concern but any decent woman isn’t going to take a photo with somebody changing in the background. My question is, if these signs are staying up, will staff start cleaning mirrors around the gym? Is GoodLife going to create a designated safe space for women to take body positive progress photos? Because there are hand prints & spit marks on mirrors that have been collecting for weeks if not months. Very disappointing to lose that safe space away from intimidating male glares. Perhaps it’s time to consider a private gym.

Expérience positive: The sauna has a wood barricade between the heating element and the seating which doesn't allow for the seating area to get very hot. I had the temperature turned all the way to the max (91 degrees celcius) and I could see the heater working hard and I have no doubt it got hot on the other side of the barricade, but I sat in there for 42 minutes because I wanted to be sweating and it took that long to get a good sweat going. It felt more like a slightly hotter hot yoga room than a sauna. I've been to other GoodLife locations, which all have the same type of sauna, but don't have the barricade, and I get completely soaked with sweat by about the 10 minute mark in those. I don't think I'll come back to this location, just because of the sauna, which is something I got my membership for.

If you’re looking to work out at a reasonable time and use the equipment you prefer, this may not be the best choice. The gym seems to have oversold memberships, so unless you arrive after 10 PM, it’s unlikely you’ll get access to the machines you want. While the gym offers a wide range of equipment and the facilities are well-maintained, it’s hard to appreciate the cleanliness and variety when access to the equipment is so limited.

Expérience fantastique: One of my biggest challenges with going to the gym has always been consistency. I spent 5 years yo-yoing with my fitness goals, in a constant on-again off-again relationship with working out. Since I started training with Emily in May, I’ve never had a problem with wanting to go to the gym. Not only is she an exceptional trainer with in-depth knowledge about growing muscle mass and strength, she’s an absolute joy to be around and has always made me feel like a friend more than a client. Her understanding of women’s bodies and how we need different things throughout our cycle, adjusting exercises and difficulties to help me work out without burning out, has been incredibly motivating as a person with PCOS and endometriosis. I’ve seen more progress with strength and muscle growth in the last 8 months than the last 5 years — without any of the pain and mobility issues I’ve experienced in the past. I don’t think I’d ever want to train with anybody else.

Expérience fantastique: I joined GoodLife Fitness 11 months ago to become strong and develop good balance as I age. I’m 62. In 2020 I had surgery for breast cancer leaving me with reduced range of motion in my right arm. After just a few months I had improved range of motion allowing me to easily retrieve laundry from the washing machine. My balance has improved, my back pain is gone, my knees don’t hurt, and I feel strong. I love when I can add more weight to an exercise. My favorite are deadlifts because they work my upper and lower body and make me feel super strong. I could not have done this without my amazing personal trainer Emily. Emily is the best. She is professional, passionate about fitness, positive and encouraging, an attentive listener and fun. I wish I had taken photos 11 months ago so I could see how my body has changed. I will do so soon. Thank you, Emily. I am strong.

Today i went to workout at this location & they asked me to pay $25 to use the gym just for today. $25 for just 1 day for already paying member is ridiculous. I'm cancelling both my memberships today.

Somewhat cramped like others have pointed out but hey it’s downtown and space is limited so what do you expect. A substantial re-organization this past summer has made a big difference too.

Negative stars because my freeze was ignored and i got charged now i’ve been emailing corporate for months for a refund.

Expérience négative: Regrettably, the personnel at this location exhibited excessive persistence and discourtesy. I am currently visiting numerous locations at various gyms to identify a suitable fit. For some reason, this is the sole location out of ten that I have visited today. They insisted that I complete the paperwork before allowing me to inspect the facility. In contrast, all other locations, including other Good Life Fitnesses in the city, did not require me to fill out any forms and instead provided me with a tour. I politely explained that I was reluctant to complete paperwork at each location for a brief five-minute inspection. However, the staff member could only reiterate that it was mandatory. Unfortunately, I departed feeling unwelcome. I know you say it's for liability reasons, but that doesn't work.If you just make up the information you put on the sheet. My friends did take a little viewing, and everything he filled out on the sheet was just made up. And it was more about the attitude of the person than it was filling out the sheet. And the fact that it's mandatory to put my email. And phone # and Address. But it's okay after leaving. We both signed up with a different gym. Even though our intentions was to sign up with good life that day.

Expérience fantastique: I signed up for a 3-day free trial at this gym and received an email saying they'd call me to activate it. After waiting two days without hearing from them, I decided to stop by, thinking they might be swamped with calls. When I arrived, they informed me that I had to wait for their call to access the trial. Strange, but fine, I figured. I was down to get the membership right there, so I decided to ask if I could take a quick look inside before committing. To my surprise, they said it was impossible unless I bought a $25 day pass. This made no sense to me—why pay for a day pass when 3 of those will get me a full month? All I wanted was a brief tour with a staff member for a minute. After this experience, I’m not planning to get the membership. UPDATE: I went ahead and got the membership, and the staff were very kind, explaining that no one was available to give me a tour when I arrived. While I do feel there should always be someone available to show new members around the facilities, I understand that sign-ups are only handled during regular business hours, which makes sense. The gym itself is well-equipped and reasonably sized for its location.

Expérience fantastique: My fav gym it's not too spacious, but there are multiple different zones. You got your cardio/treadmill zone, the free weights zone, stretching zone, functional training zone, bunch of squat racks, smith machines, benches etc. This gym has its own vibe. The staff is amazing here. Love the location in the heart of 17 ave sw. Walking distance from downtown. They cover your parking expenses. Standard membership is almost $80/mo that includes unlimited gym and all free classes, also towels. Oh and it's open 24/7. Love the place. pricey tho :(

Expérience négative: The new gym design & renovation ideas suck. I don’t know who came up with these plans but it’s not what the people In the gym want or need. Taking out a spin class completely that is always busy ( not moving bikes to fitness room to use between classes- and still use them,how do you sell a premium membership with nothing to offer) Taking out the personal training area for a place to use massage chairs and cheap massage guns ( why not put in the small mind den room that ain’t being used and make an exclusive training area like all other goodlifes) and taking out 1/2 of the cardio equipment and adding a small turf in one of the busiest and smallest GoodLifes in Canada. There is no room to push sleds- use battle ropes on a 15’ turf and slamming balls on the ground above the businesses is a good idea? Turning it into a mix of a cross fit gym and “fit 4less. The gym needs more weights racks. Bigger dumbbells,Cable machines. Hammer strength (plate loaded machine)And cardio equipment that works not broke down all the time, bring in a bunch of new things a few months ago and there broke down all the time just like the stair masters. Taking away all the 20min fix machinesfor all the new people starting out - things people always use. Sucks there was no information session or you didn’t ask what the people or trainers want or need.

Expérience positive: Great location with underground parking. Facilities and equipment is very nice. Can get very busy and be tough to get access to the equipment you want. People/staff are friendly. Very bad customer service and dealing with Corporate Memberships. I was supposed to get a discount for the past year and no one is able to help me.

Expérience positive: It’s a good club. Gets busy at times. I wish it had a steam room instead of sauna. Equipment is in good working order and the upkeep has been decent. Staff is pleasant and helpful. Parking is validated at a garage but the garage is not open early in the morning. So parking can get a little tricky given the busy location it is in. I do think the club should mandate the members take off their outside footwear off as soon as they get in. In the next reno I suggest they allocate more room to their free weights area.

Expérience fantastique: The staff are great. It is well stocked and not heavily focused on cardio. Locker room is spacious, clean and with enough personal space. I have come at all times of day and it is generally not packed.

Expérience négative: I am really new to Calgary and looking for a gym. I did some searching on Google before I went to this location to get more information. However, when I got there, one staff was still on his chair forever with his legs lifted up on something and didn't even say hello back to me. Then when I asked him about membership, he replied me with this answer : "It is night time. And everything is online. You can puchase membership online...." I just said "Thank you" and went back home. Yes! I went at night because I was busy sometimes. And I wanted to get more information beacuse I was not sure for what I searched online. I just hope that staff will change his attiude to customer.

Expérience positive: Decent equipment but too much cardio that takes up space and is not used. Floors get wet in the winter because people do not take off their outdoor shoes. Lockers are dirty because people put wet outdoor shoes in them and are not cleaned. I did get a solid trainer which is the reason for most of the rating

Expérience positive: Been going to this gym for almost 2 years now and I have a love/hate for it. It’s convenient if you live in the area, has all the equipment you need and the staff are all friendly. Downsides, it’s not the cleanest in my opinion, the dust on the cardio equipment and in the floor tiles is bad, the smell when it’s busy is pretty strong… they are constantly signing up people and it’s a small gym to begin with so it’s always busy and it’s getting worse… and there’s always something broken and takes forever to get fixed. The other goodlife gyms in Calgary seem to be a lot nicer, but this one is just convenient if you live in the area.

Expérience négative: Worst gym experience in Calgary, genuinely think the customer service needs to improve. Gym is dirty. Worst of all they won’t cancel your membership, they'll only freeze it and charge you once it unfreezes unless you freeze it again. They didn't log the cancellation I made in person, after a few charges I called to cancel, only to find out after a few charges they didn't cancel it but only froze it. They won’t let you pay for the months upfront because they rather put you on a subscription so if you forget about it or stop going, you still pay every 2 weeks. For the price , it’s not worth it, save yourself the headache. They won't help at all, all they'll say is call head office or call 1-800 blah blah blah

I asked if I could still workout for the day and they refused. I got no email or anything notifying me of this. Absolutely terrible customer service and now I will not be renewing. Half the machines are broken in this gym and it is way too packed anyways. Do not recommend.

I froze my account couple times, everytime I put a reminder not to miss the date to re-freeze and they still charge me, this happened twice! I am closing that chequing account, so I transferred all the funds. But now I have to pay the NSF fee, for the service I notified them that I will not be using. I am cancelling our 2 memberships immediately! Also, GoodLife is a service provider and they don't accept credit cards, only debit. What kind of service are you providing, financial? so credit card is not an option?! That's how you lose clients and they never come back.

Expérience fantastique: I’ve been going to this gym for six month now and it has been an excellent experience. The environment is really nice, all the staff are super friendly and helpful. The gym is very clean, the machines work really well. The only thing is that, in the afternoon it gets really busy so it’s difficult to work out but everything else, it’s really good. Also, my mom and I have been experiencing great training sessions with Emily. She has helped us a lot with the routines and food. We can definitely see changes in our bodies. She knows what she is doing and she is very friendly so there is always a good environment.

Expérience fantastique: This is a fantastic gym!! All the trainers are super nice and take an interest in you no matter what fitness level you’re at. I was trained with Emily, super friendly, always help me to cooperate with my busy schedule, some time even the weekend. Lost 30lb so far. Would definitely recommend a personal trainer like Emily to help with not just training but diet and other aspects of fitness if you want to see the result faster and efficient.

Expérience positive: The staff seem friendly and the gym is clean. I have a few complaints and its probably things outside the staff's control. It's a small gym, which could be fine. But the use of the space is just questionable. The area with ab machines and hyper stations is excessive. There are waaaaaay too many cardio machines for the space with only a few adjustable benches available and other key pieces of freeweight equipment being at a premium. The parking situation is pretty poor. They only validate after 4pm and the ticket machines in the parkaide were broken. Kinda added insult to injury. If you live around the corner and walk to the gym I think this will do the job. But if you drive to the gym probably go elsewhere. There are more spacious, better equipped Goodlife gyms

Expérience négative: I was at this location Saturday December 16th at 7:00 pm and had my lock broken off of my locker and all of my belongings including my house keys, car keys, entire wallet and winter jacket stolen. This was handled absolutely horribly and I had to ask for police to be called. Don’t bring anything in with you.

They refused to consider any form of reimbursement because I had no paper trail. I guess it's on me to some extent since I didn't notice the money leaving my account. But, in any case giving them a 1 is the least I can do for the 100s of dollars they stole from me.

Expérience négative: The location is great, front desk staff are pretty friendly in general. You have to go at odd hours to not have to fight for equipments. In regards to the trainer's, probably only 2 trainers there that actually are nice, the rest just seems like they hate customer service. Agree with the rest of the commentators, the guy with tattoo to his neck is rude and condescending. He definitely needs to go!
Expérience positive: I have been a member with Goodlife fitness for years now. I live downtown so I regularly go to this branch. Staff are the best and very helpful and professional. Thibe branch used to be organized and convenient but now and after the crowded area it is unpleasantly busy. Sometimes over capacity to the extent that it could be annoying and maybe not healthy. There should be a limited number entry policy, especially that some people would stay in the gym for hours. I totally understand the fact that Calgary is getting unpleasantly crowded right now but I would expect from the branch manager to solve the crowded facility by adaptation policies.
