Expérience positive: Staying at the Banff center and my sister and I decided to check out the hot tub and sauna. The hot tub jets were a bit weak but still enjoyable. The sauna was nice although it had an odd smell? Was a bit weird but the sauna was still nice. The locker room was genuinely the nicest one I've ever seen in my whole life, the lockers are very pretty and they had a vanity area and good hairdryers. They had these swimsuit dryers too and I've never seen those before! Was super nice.

Expérience positive: Gym needs alot of updating and maintenance. The weights are falling apart and all the machines need new upholstery and cables tightening. Changing rooms are nice and upto date. Decent steam room and jacuzzi to.

Expérience négative: I don't quite understand why they would requisition the gym for the g7 event and impact members' healthy lifestyles but here we are. Expect to be inconvenienced by the administration if you sign up here. Not a bad facility otherwise. Keep in mind there are lots of noisy children around.

Expérience fantastique: My review is based solely on the climbing gym. What a great climbing area. The room is small, but I was impressed by how much variety of routes they managed to create in the space they had. There was a good selection of lead, top-rope, auto-belay and boulder routes within the room, with good setting. They use their own grading scale but it is easy to follow. What makes this place 5* though is Rennie - she is fantastic! She way very accommodating with beginners showing them around. I am an experienced climber myself but she would still go out of her way to offer advice/beta if stuck, and even belay people who didn't have a partner when possible. If I am back in Banff I will definitely be back.

Expérience négative: Full membership, do not have my gym card once. They couldn’t look me up in their database with proof of identity (my drivers license). Told they don’t that. Piss poor service and policy. What kind of gym does that??! Of course that’s the Banff center: overpriced and absolutely no regards for residents.

Expérience fantastique: So I came here for a visit because I needed to do my LISS training. In terms of gym, this is an alright gym. But if you are into other things such as climbing and swimming, this is a good one. They have good and clean changing room, shower, and spa. Pretty good for a one time visit.

Expérience fantastique: Staff were all friendly and helpful. Facilities are great. The setting is epic, nestled away among the mountains. Reenie in the climbing gym was super helpful and patient with a novice.

Expérience fantastique: This is an awesome recreation center with great facilities and an excellent team of staff. The inclusion of facilities such as the gym, climbing wall, sauna and pool in the pass for the low price of $21 was super worth it!!! I have never been this tired from a workout, going from the weights in the gym straight to the climbing wall, then finally to doing laps in the pristine 25-meter pool. The cleanliness of the pool especially stood out and I felt very safe swimming in there especially after seeing how hard the staff work to keep the pool clean. This is by far the most comprehensive and complete recreation center I have been to. Also, a special shout out to the staff Liam and Jacob who did a superb job in helping me out at the front desk, and did a great job of making me feel comfortable and welcome. They went above and beyond to assist me, providing me with a comprehensive tour of the facility and teaching me how to use the wide variety of gym equipment. Their dedication to the craft and their beaming smiles turned my day (which at this point was going south after slipping on a patch of ice) completely upside down and made my day!!! I highly recommend this recreation center for anyone who wants a great place to work out and have fun. <3<3

Expérience fantastique: Came here to go swimming with the kids and we had a great time! It was about $20 for an adult day pass (which also includes the fitness center and climbing wall), kids under 3 are free. There are lane swimming, a deeper end for kids, a hot tub, and a Wade pool for littles. It also includes a lock for the lockers, and towels!

Expérience positive: Good place for a quick workout when you are travelling. Bought a day pass for 21 CAD which was no problem. Gym is split in two rooms (weight room and then one room with more cardio equipment and weights). Both rooms did not have the best smell and equipment is not the newest. Pool was fine. Good place to workout but just need to manage your expectations

Expérience négative: Sally Borden is touted as the biggest gym in town, but it leaves much to be desired. While it has the space to potentially be a top-tier fitness destination, several factors hold it back. Firstly, the location is quite unfortunate, with no nearby bus stops, making it difficult for many potential members to access the facility. Once you do get there, you’ll find the opening hours are limited, which can be frustrating for those with varying schedules. Inside, the gym feels cramped, especially after 5 PM when the after-work crowd arrives. Ironically, there’s a significant amount of unused space on the bottom floor that could be advanced to accommodate more equipment or classes. The current equipment selection is not bad, but in the three years I’ve been a member, I haven’t seen any improvements or updates. For gym of this size and potential, there is some equipment missing, which would be standard in most of the gyms. On a positive note, the front desk staff is very helpful and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. However, the company’s policies are overly strict and often unhelpful to paying customers, which can be frustrating. (If you forget your membership card, no chance that the staff can check you in trough the system, nothing like pausing your membership when needed,...) The gym could greatly benefit from adding fitness classes to its offerings, which would help utilize the space better and attract a more diverse membership. Regular upgrades and maintenance of the equipment should be a priority, and management would do well to actively seek feedback from clients on how to enhance their services. Overall, it feels like this gym is run by someone who doesn’t truly care about its members or the quality of the facility. With some investment in both equipment and customer experience, it could reach its potential, and I hope it will in near future.

Expérience négative: Not a bad gym, but the manager has forgotten what customer service is. When I asked about a rule her response was, "because I said so". Hardly the hallmark of good customer service.

Expérience négative: Kids under 18 can't swimm alone..... whaaaat?? How are you gonna get youth in their? Do parents have to come every time and sign their children in everytime?

Expérience fantastique: Very nice recreation center. They have the cleanest lap pool I’ve ever been too. It’s very convenient because it’s not as busy. The day pass was also at a reasonable price.

Expérience positive: Good gym, it has two floors of weights, a swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and climbing wall, almost all the staff is friendly except for one who is the bald man, he is always rude to me, he barely says hello, he doesn't look at me with a good face, always He looks at me like he's angry and in a bad way, it's not pleasant for me to go to the gym and have him attend, I feel discriminated for him.

Expérience fantastique: This place is fantastic! My husband and I took our 2 young children there for an afternoon to climb and swim. Big shout out to Bern in the climbing centre. He gave us a great orientation and really made an effort to engage our kids. He was also kind and informative when we did our belay test. And the pool... Wow! It's beautiful! It's a glass structure, so you feel like you're outside, which is very cool. It has a shallow end which is great for little kids, and plenty of toys for them to play with. The steam room and changing rooms are beautiful and everything is really clean and new. Also, a big thank you to Jamie on the front desk who went above and beyond to ensure we had a great visit. We will definitely be back!!

Expérience fantastique: First time I went to this place was in the early 1990s. It still looks and feels as it was then, clean and fresh with lots of upgrades. Well done keeping up with time and maintenance.

Expérience fantastique: This place is great, the resources are awesome and there’s plenty of space. Pool is rad too. All of the team that work here are super nice and always friendly, I always feel mega welcome and never like they’re annoyed (which is nice haha). Recommend - the monthly price is pretty good too!

Expérience négative: Very basic pool, no life guards. No water sports activities for kids. Not a worth the day pass.

Expérience positive: I went to the gym and really enjoyed it. Very spacious and clean, with modern equipments. Afterwards, I went to the hot tub and it was bad. Just felt like a warm pool. Jets are very weak and the water was not hot enough for a hot tub. Besides that, there’s no life guard on duty and no pool activities. Then, I went to the steamroom which was cold (30 degrees celsius according to the thermometer). I was in there for 10 minutes waiting for more steam and it didnt go past 35 degrees. Plus, it is extremely bright (too many lights) which makes it hard to relax inside. When I tried to shower, all 4 showers in the female change room were extremely cold. I could not shower, as it was negative temperatures outside I did not want to have a cold shower - I was going to walk 35 minutes home and be cold during the process. This centre seems to be the only gym and pool with public access in Banff, and they charge $80 + tax for a month membership which is extremely expensive considering most people in Banff work entry level minumum wage jobs. Unfortunately, I’ll have to keep going to this centre as there is nowhere else for locals to go to the gym in Banff. Unless you work at a place with a gym that allows workers to use it, which is not always the case.

It's really small but for a little town you don't need too much but regardless I enjoyed my session there and will definitely visit again next time I'm in the area

Expérience positive: I've been coming here as a casual user for years. I work as a tour manager, and outside of cruddy hotel gyms, this is the only option in Banff. Pre-Covid, the day-pass price was $15.75 all up. Post-Covid, it's $21. That's a 33% increase in the pre-tax price, and given the size of the gym and limited amount and variety of equipment, I cannot see any justification for such a steep increase which is higher even than the rampant inflation we've seen elsewhere. No new or upgraded equipment that I can see, so why such a steep hike?

Expérience négative: Overpriced. You have to pay for the pool and the climbing wall even if you don’t use it. Steaming room closed till Covid and won’t open any time soon. Because of a water leak the upper gym is closed and also won’t open any time soon. Still paying 85$ a month. Ridiculous!

Expérience positive: Great place to get in shape and be active. Unfortunately their swimming pool is closed to the public because they cannot hire enough lifeguards. So only members can still use the pool but at their own risk.

Expérience fantastique: Although not so easy to get to, it's worth it for how many types of facilities it offers. Pool, fitness machines, and my favorite, indoor rock climbing!

Was in town for a day and needed to get a workout done, the cardio facility had tons of equipment, plus kettlebells and dumbbells so I had everything I needed. The weight facility was extensive and very clean. I also did a swim workout in the 25m pool and was pleased with the cleanliness of the facility and also enjoyed having a dedicated lane for laps all to myself. Highly recommend Sally Borden to anyone in the area!

Expérience fantastique: Had the best time yesterday at the gym, pool and rock climbing. Jamie (one of the rock climbing instructor assistants) was so funny and kind. Such an amazing dude!! All the staff was super fun and nice. Pretty affordable for a day pass too!

Expérience fantastique: TMI, I lived in my car and this was the place I'd go to feel whole. And no I wasn't dirty, but I'm sure that's not a new thing around that area. It had the best change rooms, the best pool. It was just all together in a beautiful place. Change rooms were to die for, sauna in the change rooms so no creepy men. Bathing suites spinner to get the most water out and not have to leave with soaking wet stuff. I loved this place and ironically it's been years since I've been there, but was just telling my partner how much I loved it and wanna bring the kids there

The pool is supernice & clean, and they have lots of toys for the kids to have fun with. The climbing room was excellent, and big shout out to Will who was a great & helpful instructor! Great day, for just 75$ for a family of 4. Absolutely recommended!

Expérience fantastique: We visited to use the pool on a hot spring day. The pool was clean, well looked after. Great temperature and not too busy for us to enjoy. There are lots of toys for the kids to play with in the pool. Including the basketball net! We were pleasantly surprised that the day pass allowed us to use all the facilities, including the rock indoor climbing facility, which the kids had such a great time on. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The rock climbing staff were super encouraging and great teachers for the kids. We would use this facility all the time if we lived in the area.

Expérience positive: If you look for a place to really work out and build up, this is not for you. This is an Okay gym to maintain your current physic, but very expensive for what they offer. $80 monthly. Not many machines to work with, dumbbells or other equipment so if is busy go home or line up. Not wide open hours either: 8am to 8pm they could at least be open from 5am 11pm or 24hs for that price. Sadly there are no options in town for now, so you will need to go to canmore if you look for a more reasonable price and a better range of gym equipment.

Expérience négative: I will do a Complete honest Review : If you are looking for a big gym with plenty of equipment and machinery to work out every single muscle, this place is not it. This is an Ok gym to do a very basic training, but very expensive for what they offer at $80 x month or you can do 3 or 6 months with a better rate but they will charge you straight up the full amount and not every month so be aware. Not many equipment to work out with or weight machines so if is busy you better go home or wait in line to use the equipment you need or just use the steam room (if it is working) or hot tube and leave the work out for another day. Not wide open hours either: 7am to 8pm, they close very early. They could at least be open from 5am - 11pm so ppl that works in town can actually make it or 24hs for that price. Overall is well maintained, and everything inside will be in good working conditions, clean and tidy but they do tend to close the facilities without previous notice and no communication given by email or nothing. They take your contact information when you sing in but there are never updates or nothing to let people know they will be close. The only communication is a paper on the outside door. So sometimes you will go up the hill to the facilities and find out is close that day or for a few days due to random issues. If you forget the card they give you to check in, forget about coming in, they will turn you down and sent you away home without even looking you up in the system to check if your membership is up to date and let you in. The place has the space to hold uncountable amount of machinery to work out and could be the best indoor gym in the valley but for some reason in the last 10 years they only replace a few broken things and only add a few more dumbbells, they never fixed or replace a few nice machines they used to have and with an insane monthly membership you could expect a bit more from this place.

Expérience positive: So far, I only use the facility for swimming only when I'm in the area. It's a small pool. It has 2 lane swims and one slightly bigger one to accommodate everyone with family, I guess and also 2 small hot tubs. If you swim distance, you'll find the pool water is hot. You will notice the chlorine odour when in the water. Sometimes, no lifeguard on duty so check prior coming in. It's ok facility. Banff could design better. Staff is friendly and accommodating.

Expérience fantastique: What a great find during our visit to Banff. Stopped here for showers and got to enjoy the pool, hot tub, and sauna for about $6 a person. Day was was only $15 for access to the entire facility, including gym, rock climbing walls, group classes and more. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The place was very clean. They had towels and equipment for rent, all very reasonable. Nice locker rooms, super spacious and great cafes on-site.

Expérience positive: I went here for the bouldering and climbing gym and I was really happy I passed by. You can rent some shoes. The bouldering is shared routes with the climbing gym with height limits for where to climb. There were some really fun routes here. It’s a small gym but does the job!

Expérience négative: Im not usually one to leave a review but this experience I cant ignore. The girl working the front desk whose, name was Grace, at the sally borden recreational center was extremely rude and unpleasant. I asked her a few questions and she was having none of it. She was not only rude to me but to every other customer I saw her dealing with. Very unhappy with this experience :(

Expérience positive: Good hours nice pool. Small gym. Worth the money for the strong steam room pool hot tub and fun classes

Expérience négative: Staff are almost depressing to deal with. Barely acknowledges your presence. Pool has way too much chlorine in it. I've never had swim suits bleach out so quickly and it hurts your eyes, skin and throat when swimming laps. A chlorine rinse is a must if you have sensitive skin. Unfortunately the only lane pool in town. Prices are ok. Gym is small but adequate.

Expérience fantastique: Great gym with lots of classes and facilities. The fitness gym is quite large, climbing gym is small and cozy, and the pools are always clean and not too busy. A big plus is that if you get a pro membership, you get a towel and lock with each visit. I found that small detail very helpful.
