Le Gym Concordia: Avis
Expérience positive: Assez cher mais de nombreux équipements Bien choisir son heure pour s'y rendre afin d'éviter le "monde"
Expérience positive: Gym is at good location, but prices are way high as compared to other gyms. If the prices are high, then equipments should be updated, but unfortunately equipments are way old and outdated. 3 stars for location and space inside gym.
Expérience négative: place sucks
Expérience négative: Ouf je vérifiais les avis par intérêt à ce gym...Non merci
Expérience négative: Prices increased with nothing new
Expérience négative: barely worth it even with the cheap student price. Consistently overcrowded for most of the day, unless you want to do nothing but cardio. There aren't nearly enough machines or benches to go around. The showers have also been broken for years now.
Expérience négative: The most depressing gym. Dark, no air conditioner and dirty.
Expérience positive: A little pricy for the level of quality of equipment.
Expérience négative: Gym Trainer interrupted my 102kg lat pulldown set and started critiquing my form when I didn’t ask for it, was rude and extremely unprofessional. Next time I’d like to spend my time at the gym in peace instead of being interrupted and rudely spoken to
Expérience positive: Although I like that le gym has 6 racks, 3 sets of dumbbells, 2 incline bench, 2 flat bench and 2 multi-stations. After going there for a couple of years and seeing the evolution of the gym I'm overall disappointed. In the time I've been there le gym has added a hip thrust machine, linear leg press (replaced the selectorized shoulder press), glute-kickback machine and a leg extension/lying leg curl combo. But they have yet to add any upper body machines to help members meet their fitness goals. Since le gym seems to be partnered with Atlantis gym equipment manufacturer, I believe the gym would benefit from having the Atlantis E449 shoulder press, D131 Chin/dip assist, PW737 vertical chest press, PW437 row and C108 seated leg curl so members can have thicker hamstrings. Room for new equipment can be made by reducing the obscenely large cardio area.....
Expérience négative: The gym is ok but the showers are unacceptable. The water is boiling and you can not control the temperature of the water. For almost 10 years they have signs saying that they are working to fix the problem but this has never been solved. After Sweating you will have to shower with boiling water. A joke for a gym that is part of the engineering building
Expérience fantastique: Does the job.
Expérience positive: While the gym and the equipment are great, there's a real attitude problem among a couple of the people who work there. Especially one blonde guy who's sometimes at the counter. He'll look at you like you've done bad, bad things to him. But if you're a student at Concordia, it's definitely a steal for all that you get. I tried the kickboxing class and let me tell you, DO NOT take it. There are better classes out there if you look around. The teacher is too aggressive, even for a martial arts class. And he mocks other sports for no apparent reason. Creates a very toxic environment. The gym is nice though.
Expérience négative: They continuously increasing price for public!!! Extremely Overpriced for people who are non students. It’s the third time since I joined they revised rates in last 6 months!
Expérience négative: Overpriced for what it is. Extremely hot and humid. Very busy. Too few machines for the amount of people
Expérience négative: This gym is very crowded and I wish it was for students and faculty only. I think the gym should limit membership to the public. It's incredibly unpleasant to arrive to a gym that is crowded constantly and it's not enjoyable to work out. It also sucks that the membership doesn't included the loyal campus location.
Expérience positive: Too Crowded
Expérience fantastique: Good gym, good price if youre a student. If your goal is to work out and get in shape, it's a good place. Dont expect anything fancy though. Ultimately, its what you make of it. People are nice and friendly.
Expérience négative: University gym. There is not a big variety of fitness machines. Some of the machines are out of order. There is no free trial class. It is usually crowded. I have seen way better gyms
Expérience négative: There are fewer machines than I was expecting. The pictures online make it feel bigger than what it actually is. 7 months into the gym one would think that for the price you pay they could afford cleaning services, there's no soap in the downstairs bathrooms and sometimes not even toilet paper.
Expérience fantastique: Great gym for students
Expérience positive: Good equipments and good environment, very tidy and friendly place
Expérience positive: Sub-basement, zero natural light. Not a lot of equipment, considering the number of students, alumni and other gym members. Almost all equipment is always used or occupied by people sitting on it and playing on their smartphones all the time. Fairly clean, but the air is stuffy. Many rules are poorly enforced (I.e. bunch of people wearing flip flops while doing dead lifts)
Expérience positive: This place is excellent for students (especially concordia) their prices are very good compared to others around. The whole gym floor is always clean including the changing rooms, even when it’s crowded in there, I never had an issue with people leaving a mess behind. The equipment is on the older side, and some of them clearly need to be fixed. The seat height adjustment on all the cable machines is broken. They are missing quite a few machines from there as well. And for some reason sometimes I go to the gym and all the mostly used dumbbell weights are missing (they may be used in the classes) but that’s not okay as a lot of people depend on those weights for their exercises. It tends to get crowded towards the end of a school day as all the students start coming in after class, but it’s not so bad that you cannot finish your work out efficiently (of course that depends on how fast you like to run through it). Worst case, you have to share a machine, or just find an alternative exercise. All in all not too bad of a gym, but needs an overhaul when it comes to the quality and age of machines.
Expérience positive: Good sized gym. Its get's busy midday onwards so I prefer the morning. 6 squat racks so usually no waiting. The AC doesn't seem to work (or it's a feeble system) but you're there to sweat anyway. The staff are helpful, the place is clean, the only hesitation is that some equipment is a bit used up but everything functions.
Expérience fantastique: Great people Great Ambiance
Expérience positive: I like that it's well equipped.
Expérience fantastique: I take Savate Kickboxing. It is the place to be.
Expérience positive: Good variety of spaces & equipment
Expérience fantastique: Good Gym next to Guy Concordia Metro (don't even need to go outside)
Expérience négative: Please CHANGE THE PLAYLIST It's been a month that you've used one playlist. Care about the people that pay you.
Expérience négative: Too busy, dirty, not enough equipment, 90% cardio machines, need to do better
Expérience positive: Good gym, equipments are not new but aren't falling apart either. If you are a student and manage to get the discount, then it becomes super worth
Expérience négative: Very bad gym. Expensive and has Old machines, overcrowded, there are better options like econofitness or any other gym
Expérience négative: Very bad, I went to the place to find out about the prices and also to know the space, the receptionist said that I could only visit the gym if I left an ID with her at the reception and as I am a foreigner I could leave my passport. I said I didn't have my passport and even if I did I wouldn't leave it there and then she didn’t let me see the gym. I mean, who does a thing like that? The passport is the only document that foreigners have, we don’t walk around carrying it in our pocket. I think this was very disrespectful and I Will never recomend a place like that to anyone!
Expérience fantastique: If you’re visiting Montréal and have accommodation downtown I highly recommend this gym. It’s only $40 CA for a weekly pass, and they have all the equipment you need. Make sure to bring a lock for your valuables.
Expérience positive: Can be very crowded: which means more hotties but longer waits. Expensive drop-in rate of 17$, however, you can use it the next day as long as it's within 24hours. Staff seem nice. Not the cleanest of gyms.
Expérience positive: Big gym, really good value for money. There is a lot of equipment but it gets quite crowded in the afternoon when you might have to wait a bit for a bench or squat rack. There always seem to be plenty of cardio machines available The only other drawback is that it's underground so can get pretty stuffy in the summer.
Expérience positive: Good place to workout, far better than econofitness however, any time outside of opening time to 9:30am is going to be very crowded. Loses a star because they only have 2 bench press machines, which is honestly a joke in a university where EVERYONE wants to bench literally every day... Loses another star because its not a serious gym, lots of people there have no idea what they are doing, don't know gym etiquette, or simply go there to socialize with their friends. If you go in the afternoon, you will not be able to use many machines because a groups of friends will use it for at least 60 minutes, taking 5 minutes breaks each and talking the whole time... This gym would be a whole lot better if they had more bench press machines.
Expérience négative: The gym has outdated equipment and lacks machines like back rows or shoulder presses. It’s consistently overcrowded, especially during peak hours making very challenging to find available benches , and the weight area is too small. These issues should be addressed to improve the overall gym experience!
Expérience fantastique: As a Concordia student, I have to rep this gym at 5 stars regardless of its true score, though I have felt less comfortable lately mainly due to the amount of female counterparts within the gym who have the nerve to stare at me while I’m working out. Every time I bend over, I can see them clearly in the mirrors bolting their eyes towards my ****. I don’t know what to do anymore. I am debating telling the staff there though I’m worried they may find my claims ridiculous. I think I will just switch gyms.
Expérience positive: Bon gym, il manque quelques machines ( press pec notamment)
Expérience fantastique: Great gym - university gym. You can get a weekly or daily pass. Weekly is around 40 CAD
Expérience fantastique: When I first came to Montreal I trained here during my time as student at Concordia from Sep 2019 to Mar 2020 before the pandemic hit. I will forever miss this place. Whenever I stepped in here I had this zen like feeling which couldn't be replicated anywhere else.
Expérience fantastique: Decent size, good variety of equipment. Not too crowded either when I went in the mornings. Only con is the showers run on scalding hot only. Would appreciate cold option but maybe it’s just me.
Expérience positive: This is my first time going to a co-ed gym. I am a young fem woman, so I was pretty nervous going by myself. I'm happy to say the overall experience was positive. The staff are friendly and non-intrusive, but easy to find if you have a question. Also a lot of women on staff too, incase you were worried about having to ask a dude about fem issues. It's "post" covid right now so only an hour I think is allowed. I don't stay longer than that, so it's fine for me. During busy hours it wasn't ridiculously packed the times I went. The gym floor is fairly small for a facility that's open to the public and University students. The cardio section (ellipticals, treadmills) were pretty quiet. Most people were over by the weights. The locker rooms + showers were clean enough. Definitely old, but I didn't feel gross using the washroom or taking a shower. The showers are button style, and no temperature control, with very powerful water pressure. It was fine! There's even a small curtained change booth in the locker room proper if you prefer more privacy. I couldn't tell you much about the machines. They don't seem new, but they don't seem like broken, falling apart junk either. Tl;dr Small floor gym, has all the basic facilities. It's clean and serviceable with easy to find staff. For the price you pay as a student and how close it is to the SGW campus, it's a great investment. Experienced no creeps or bad vibes. Just be wary of how it might be when it starts getting busy again.
Expérience fantastique: They are open for a wide-range of hours suitable to many❤. I specifically like the ellipticals and the back of the gym (more quiet).
Expérience fantastique: 5 stars for what you get as a student
Expérience fantastique: Good gym! Enough équipement, although I would like them to get a 40lb fixed Barbell since I think it's missing. Otherwise no complaints! Maybe add a machine or 2 for shoulder workouts and chest press
Expérience positive: It is a nice place to exercise, and moreso there are enough regulations to keep users safe.
Expérience positive: When I had the membership the showers were out of service so I can only speak on the actual gym experience. The gym is quite small to accommodate for the number of students so there is quite of bot of waiting time for popular equipment, especially if you go during peak hours. It’s not the cleanest either but you get what you pay for.
Expérience fantastique: Concordia's Le Gym is my #1 gym. Ive been a member (on & off) since 2010. No gym in Montreal that can even compare. First off, its organized by educated professionals in the field of fitness & operates within a university so a multi-million budget. High quality fitness equipment, lots of space + 3 studio gyms, capacity fits like +300 people, +100 cardio machines + a spin-bike room. Lots of space to stretch or setup your work out area. 100s of fitness tools (racks of yoga mats n stacks of gym mats, foam rollers, swiss ball, massage balls (desk), kinetics machine (x4), racks of resist. bands, skipping ropes, stretching sticks, gliding pads, huge bin filled with yoga blocks n stretch out ropes, like so much stuff that other gyms dont even have 1 of). Racks of dumbells, plates, machine attachments & bars all over the place. It's a campus gym so community; large quantities & space are essential. Everynight, campus cleaning crew makes their rounds so yes very clean. Now for the negatives that people rant about; the shower issue - this has been a major problem longtime, the area had major plumbing issues prior to construction which shouldve been re-designed during construction. They can't fix issues that come from ville de Montreal and now its too late. Sometimes ull get lucky n sometimes u won't so dont rely on their showers. As a man, it doesnt effect me; a quick 5 mins is ample. I can shower & scrub properly at home. If ur a concordia student; go to MB 7 or 8 n take ur shower there ull need a code to get in. Or find another shower facility bc the shower issue and water leaks will never be permanently fixed. Mtl is a very old city so don't let this take away from how great this gym is. Friendly helpful staff, including free tips, help & tutorials from trainers (most gyms won't give u this). Huge gym, huge University community (+30k students & +10k staff), it can get extremely packed. If time & space is important for you; avoid working out during the 4-8 peak hours on mon-fri. Am's are most quiet. 7pm-10pm along with weekends are great time slots. This is not a power lifting gym although they do have some power lifting racks. Be advised; if you start problems with people here (fights, arguments, threats, harrasment etc) you WILL be escorted out by campus security & most likely BANNED so yes, very safe. Safety locks for valuelables (jewls, wallet etc) located outside of locker room (locker rooms & washrooms cannot have cameras but rest of gym can). Thats my full review being a gym member for past decade.
Expérience positive: Great gym and great value for Concordia students.
Expérience positive: Always crowned. But still nice gym
Expérience négative: Cheap, and you get what you pay for. The showers are a push button, and shoot freezing water until they warm up. The gym can be absolutely packed. The weight area is really male dominated. I remember a particular instance where a man would not stop correcting me on a machine. it was so uncomfortable . Maybe it would be better if there were women only hours? would certainly make me feel more relaxed
Expérience fantastique: Best gym to start your journey on. Or even continue your journey. Extremely huge, friendly, great equipment, inexpensive, amazing staff etc etc...
Expérience fantastique: Workout classes are good!
Expérience fantastique: Was in town for the weekend staying at the Fairmount and wanted to workout in a bigger gym than the one in the hotel. They have a good variety of equipment (most importantly for me - squat racks and kettlebells) and waive the drop-in fee ($10) if it’s your first visit. Nice walk from the hotel to gym as well.
Expérience fantastique: Even with a raise in the price is good for students, well equipped with rings,TRX suspension bands and resistant bands for body weight workout.. better to go for workout in quiet hours..
Expérience fantastique: Très propre
Expérience fantastique: Best thing about le gym is the classes they offer. If you are a concordia student you can get a great deal on the classes for about a whole semester (12 weeks) classes are $40-60. They have a wide selection of classes from dancing to spinning to yoga and so much more.
Expérience fantastique: It's a nice one, not expensive for students, they got really good trainers, friendly staff
Expérience fantastique: Lots of room and equipment. Great price. Wish it was open on weekend however.
Expérience fantastique: The ballet teacher is amazing!
Expérience fantastique: Zumba Fiesta with Veronica is amazing!!!!
Expérience fantastique: Well equipped. It is full at certain hours, I would recommend going on the weekends and in the mornings since it is usually empty
But when school starts...
Expérience négative: cockroaches in showers, dated equipment, needs cleaning.
Expérience positive: It gets very busy some times...
Expérience positive: Very good gym and relatively cheap if you're a student. Not always space but its never too bad.
Expérience positive: Great gym for the price, especially if you go at odd hours. They got every little gym équipement you need.
Expérience positive: Pretty good gym, and if you're a Concordia student, then it's really dirt cheap!
Expérience négative: Nice gym, new equipment, not well thought out. A 1000 member sized gym built to accommodate 20,000 students and the open public. Very fair price though!
Expérience négative: THIEVES! Guys, please read this before you even go in there. First of all, I've been bodybuilding for more then 23 years. I decided to try this gym for fun. Once the application was done, I went to put my stuff in a locker.. somewhere near the middle. When I finished training, my "locker" was forced with a broken key stuck in my lock...so I had to ask the staff to cut my lock to get in my locker... then I had to buy a new lock which cost me 10$...Jesus...now.. why my locker was robbed? why not the other hundreds lockers around??There was another person who got robbed as well.. and he was a "new" applicant like me. So the point here.. is.. why are "new applicants" being robbed? AND... who knows that we are "new applicant" in there apart from the staff that made us fill the application? Right... so.. you're gonna say... not true.. it's wrong... bla bla bla. Sure. Never going back to that gym again. If you don't beleive, go there as a "new applicant"... and watch your locker when you finish your training. Cheers.
Expérience négative: I know what you're thinking, if i'm a student this gym is cheap and inside the school, might as well sign up... DON'T!! it's a terrible gym, first of all, smells REALLY bad, like REALLY... the equipments break and don't get fixed. And above all, the staff is very unfriendly, the gym closes at 10, and the 9:45, instead of announcing it, they TURN OFF THE F**ING lights, WHILE people workout, imagine how dangerous that is, and their choice of music is beyod disguting... There is absolutely nothing good about the gym, do not sign up
Expérience négative: If i can give 0 i would. Almost Every single machine has a problem. And most of the dumbell rack is damaged and dangerous. Manager doesn’t do anything to fixe real and dangerous issues
Expérience positive: Pricing ain't bad and the staff is super friendly! You'll find a great variety of gym equipment with two studio rooms. There's a nice sense of community in this gym and the place is kept quite clean compared to other gyms in the price range.
Expérience fantastique: It's a good gym for the price, especially if you are a student. If you're worried about crowdedness just do not go at peak times, very simple.
Expérience fantastique: Been going here for 3 years and it's great value
Expérience négative: I advise people to NOT USE the trainers here.
Expérience positive: Quite busy during peak hours but nice equipment and staff
Expérience positive: Reasonably priced day passes for non-students. Weight-lifting area has tons of equipment, however the cardio machines are outdated.
Expérience positive: Good student price, decent equipment but it's always cramped and the hours aren't the best. Plus the showers are often either freezing or scorching hot.
Expérience positive: Nice, well equipped gym with friendly staff. It does get crowded at peak hours. Main drawback is their inability to regulate the water temperature in the locker room. Ever since the place opened like 10 years ago, the showers spray only scalding hot water. There are signs up indicating they are working on it, but surely no one that believes that anymore after 10 years.
Expérience négative: Never recommended due to: - few opening hours( for this huge population that they registered and paid the fee until 10 pm is not acceptable) - always crowd!( u need to wait for each equipment at least 5 min per each set). - not good music environment to motivate for workout. - inside has not sufficient air conditioner and ventilator during rush hour.
Expérience négative: Would have given 0 stars if possible. Management does not care about the gym and discriminates powerlifters and bodybuilders. Furthermore, it is crowded and there is no ventilation, there are two fans that get used by the classes. Finally, ALL the machines are old and not well maintained. The only thing good is the people, location and few staff member but a lot of them hate their job.
Expérience positive: A good gym for exercise class with decent price
Expérience positive: Good staff. Lots of equipment. Gets very busy during peak hours.
Expérience positive: nice equipment, clean space. unfortunately gets way too crowded pass 11
Expérience positive: really good if you are student at concordia, get filled up really quickly
Expérience positive: always crowded and not all that much equipment. unbeatable price however.
Expérience positive: I like the place and the price but not all machines are available, such as chest machines
