Judo is a combative sport that uses throws, holds, choking and locking techniques to defeat an opponent. These techniques are applied in a manner that uses your opponent's strength and movement against them. Injurious and deadly techniques, such as kick and blows are not allowed in competition but may be learned by experienced judoka through the study of the judo katas under the guidance of a senior instructor.
While other martial arts excel in specific areas, Judoâs holistic approachâcombining standing and ground techniques with mental fortitudeâcreates a versatile foundation for all ages and body types, fostering resilience on and off the mat.
At Tolide Judo Kwai, weâre passionate about making the art of Judo accessible and enjoyable for every age group. Fantastic experience: Best club, discipline, all ages, builds strength character, excellent with children.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic club. Great with kids.
Fantastic experience: Tolide [pronounced "toe-lee-day"] judo club has first rate instructors with decades of experience in competitive judo and, coaching, and judging. They have a very large mat area with springs under the floor, so it's easy and fun to do all kinds of judo without having hard landings on the floor. The instructors and members are very involved in the Alberta judo community and participate with volunteers and competitors in all the major tournaments, including running their own tournament every year (as well as hosting a very popular monthly tournaments for beginning and intermediate atheletes only). Judo is an Olympic sport, a traditional martial art, a self defence system, and a fitness program all at once, and Tolide is one of the best places to learn it as a beginner and to practice your art as you grow.
