Fantastic experience: Luke is one of the most empathetic individuals I have ever worked with in my adult life. His approach to training is very methodical and is backed by a wealth of knowledge regarding training, lifestyle, and nutrition. I have been working with Luke for just under a year now but the amount I have grown and learned from his guidance is impeccable. When I started training with Luke, I was suffering from chronic shoulder pain as a result of many years of volleyball and a poor rehab attempt after a rotator cuff surgery. I had always been weak in my upper body due to this and to my surprise, my lower body wasn't much better. After just a few months of training, I had already noticed changes in my level of pain as well as my overall strength. I started Olympic lifting (something I had dreamed of doing) within months, pain-free and have progressed rather linearly to this point as well. Luke does an amazing job of listening to what one has to say, and then using that information to create a program that is perfect for you. Luke takes into account all aspects of your life and then makes a perfect, totally unique program that is best suited for your needs and goals, and to top it off, he meets you where you are today. Not only is Luke a phenomenal primary coach, he also genuinely cares for everyone that is around him in the gym space. No matter who you are, Luke is always willing to help keep you safe and motivate you through every step of your workout. He does an amazing job and making people feel confident and empowered both in and out of the gym space. At the end of the day, Luke is not only a fantastic coach, but also a wonderful friend who I am very happy to have in my life. I guarantee that having Luke as a coach with help you reach any and all goals that you have.

Fantastic experience: In October of 2017, I experienced a herniated disc in my L5-S1 vertebra, I was in constant pain, numbness down my leg, after many months of rest , healing and physio, I was ready to ease back into the gym. In August 2018, I walked in to Opex Regina for my assessment with Coach Luke. I could barely do the simple things like sit or bend over to tie my shoes without discomfort. I had previously been an avid gym goer, I wasn’t new to the gym or to picking up heavy things and setting them back down. I was new to being injured. Yesterday January 20, 2020, I was back to deadlifting. I did 3 sets of 5, with 155lbs on the trap bar. For many this isn’t significant, it’s not a ton of weight, its less than what I had been able to do in the years leading up to my injury but the fact that I could do it confidently and pain free was a big freaking deal. Coach Luke has been absolutely amazing and pivotal in my recovery and healing process, sure we have had flare ups with my weak glutes and have discovered other physical imbalances that we needed to work through along the way, but if it wasn’t for him, his programming, his supportive nature, I would have given up a long time ago. We didn’t always have fun exciting programming, there were days (er weeks) I would come to the gym and do a lot of foundational movements birddogs, planks things that I thought were boring. His knowledge and expertise kept me in a place that I could rebuild trust with my body and brain that I was safe and the movements weren’t going to hurt or reinjure me. If you have ever had an injury you know that the brain and nervous system take a lot longer to calm down than the physical body when there is the perception of pain or injury. His support and reminding me that I was safe and ok was always cheering me on and reminding me that I was safe. There aren’t enough words or phrases to truly express my gratitude for Luke… and all of the other coaches at Opex that have supported me on my healing journey. If you have been injured and are looking to get back to the gym, give Luke a shout, he understands what it’s like to have been there and how to get you back to where you want to be.

Fantastic experience: Luke has been my coach for the last 4 months of my fieldwork internship at OPEX. Although, we knew that my placement was temporary, he has made an everlasting impact on my life. I came to OPEX as an over trained, fifth-year university track and field athlete with some lifestyle habits that needed tweaking. My goal was to make my last year in the sport my best year; becoming faster and more powerful than I ever was before. Luke provided me with exercise prescription tailored towards accomplishing my goals. He continiously provided me with guidance throughout workouts and increased my exposure to a variety of different movements specific to my sport. Knowing my capabilities, he pushed me when needed and constantly challenged me. We also made some adjustments to my current eating habits and were constantly monitoring my energy/recover levels. He really emphasized the idea that, "doing less is more". This was something that I had to get used to. Prior, I came from a training background in which we ran 5 times per week and did high volume lifts 3 times per week. I had been on this training schedule for 9 years of my life with no real break. This didn't allow for adequate recovery, thus leading to my energy levels being a 5/10 most days. Furthermore, my outlook towards training lacked excitement and motivation. Through my work with Luke, I felt more recovered, had more energy, and was excited to witness my performance during workouts. This prepared me well for my training on the track and my race performance. Luke took into account all aspects of my life and made up a plan that would best suit me, my needs, and my goals. With the very little time we had, together we successfully accomplished all that I have set out for myself and more. From running .2 seconds faster within my hurdle race to doing a muscle up, he had my best interest in mind and supported me on my journey. Luke holds a wealth of knowledge regarding training, nutrition, and lifestyle. He genuinely cares for not only his clients, but every single person at OPEX. Luke has this positive outlook that radiates within everyone around him. He motivates everyone to be a better version of themselves, to live everyday to the fullest of their abilities. Luke was not only an amazing coach, but also a great friend. Whatever your goals may be, within fitness and lifestyle, I am confident that Luke will help you accomplish them.

Fantastic experience: Luke isn’t my primary coach, however he’s often at the gym – either coaching on the floor, or doing his own training – when I’m working out. Truthfully, I look forward to pulling up and seeing his car parked there because I know I’ll leave with a piece of Luke wisdom – some days it’s work-out related, some days it’s life-related. I’ve observed Luke do something that I think must be extremely difficult for a coach – he truly gets to know the members on the floor and how they respond to coaching – some of us need gentle pushing, some need a frank statement, some need a louder push, and he knows when to give what’s needed. Here’s an example: I was just a few months pregnant and doing a movement I had done just a few days prior, but on this particular day I was struggling – which then led to some less-than-great self-talk about my abilities and my body. Luke quietly walked over, asked me how I was doing – in a gentle tone, clearly recognizing I was having a “moment”. I answered honestly (he creates a space that you feel safe to be honest and raw) and said “Not good. I could do this the other day without a problem, and today I physically cannot do it.” Luke’s response was enveloped in heartfelt kindness. He said “Be gentle with yourself. Your body is doing things right now that we can’t even imagine, in order to grow a human. Your body is working hard already, there are going to be a lot of these changes to adjust to.” We’ve had a lot of real conversations about body-image and awareness – among many topics! Luke is a deep well of knowledge and insight - including technical knowledge re movement and nutrition as well as lifestyle related insight.

Fantastic experience: I have known Luke for many years and he has been my coach for 18 months. In that time he has helped me rehabilitate both a serious injury and chronic back pain. He is gifted at helping me articulate my goals, and creating concrete plans to achieve them. He supports, encourages, and pushes when needed. Under his guidance I have achieved more than I thought I could. Luke has the best approach I have come across to help me achieve my nutritional goals, while at the same time addressing my relationship to my body, to food, and to my weight. In a world where “thinner is better” is the implicit and explicit belief, Luke approaches nutrition from the standpoint of health being the goal. He has extensive training in both the science of nutrition and the science of behaviour change, and his kind but direct approach has been tremendously helpful to me.

Fantastic experience: I met with Luke as I wanted nutrition coaching in order to lose fat and have my body composition reflect an active lifestyle. Together, we started slowly developing my eating and overall lifestyle habits so I could achieve my goals. We focused on sustainable changes. Luke was supportive when I did well and when I felt I was failing. Since working with him, everyone around me as made note of my results. I recommend contacting Luke if you feel you need some direction or a kick start in order to achieve your fitness and health goals.

Fantastic experience: Very knowledgeable. Luke programs workouts that I would never think of putting together myself, and has been instrumental in overcoming some injuries/deficiencies that have been plaguing me for years. I give Luke full credit for my newfound ability to bench press and squat pain free.

Fantastic experience: Luke Rossmo has been my personal trainer for just over a year now. He has been my motivator, inspirator and at times counselor. All while being caring, understanding and interested in my well being. Luke is such a knowledgeable guy on fitness and adapting my programming to my needs and abilities all while challenging my limits. I am 53 years old and I have just completed my 400th OPEX workout and I have never felt healthier and stronger than I do now! Thank you Luke!

Our consultations always make me dig deeper into myself and he has helped make my goals a reality. I feel more amazing at 47 than maybe ever before in my life

Fantastic experience: I went to Luke after becoming bored and plateauing in my regular weekly workout routine. I had experience working with Luke at another fitness facility. I reached out to Luke and got a response within a few hours. We set up a meeting for the same week. He put me through the paces to evaluate me, but also really challenged me. After, we discussed my fitness goals. I stated I wasn't so much interested in or focusing on losing weight or gaining muscle, but more into achieving specific goals like a handstand push up and a muscle up. Luke really listened to me and gave his opinion on how to achieve my goals. He walked me through his pricing and recommended a plan to help me achieve my goals. Over our time together, he would check in daily to give positive reinforcement and to challenge me to make good eating choices. I appreciated his dedication to my success as it wasn't just about how I performed when I worked out. The program is all tailored to me and my current fitness level, but pushing me to meet my goals. After a few months, I had achieved my first muscle up and I was starting to see some nice physical results too! Luke is not only a great trainer, he’s also a great friend. His positivity is contagious. I genuinely like him and 100% looked forward to every workout. There wasn't one day I wanted to come up with an excuse not to work out (well maybe leg days lol). I would absolutely recommend Luke to those seeking a personal trainer no matter your fitness level. Jimmi P

Fantastic experience: I've been training with Luke for about a year and a half. He helped me lose over 30 pounds of unhealthy fat while I gained strength and muscle mass. Luke has helped me walk taller, feel more confident in my physical abilities and taught me how to eat healthy without ever feeling deprived. I've never felt better!! Thank you Luke.

I recommend his services to anyone wanting to rejuvenate their training or looking to start a new path to a healthier life.

Fantastic experience: In October of 2018, I completed an 18 day trek, pain free, in the Himalayan Mountains in Nepal. I am a man in his sixties, who nine months before leaving had lower back and knee issues and had difficulty and pain walking the previous six months prior to that. Luke was a miracle worker! In the nine months prior to leaving for Nepal he listened and heard my expectation and developed a rigorous yet flexible work out that resulted in a most memorable and enjoyable trek. An example of his listening skill and flexibility was when doing a pull sled activity that pained my knee because of the weight suggested. I stopped doing it and Luke responded by saying that was the right thing to do. He held back on the exercise and when he brought it back the weight was scaled back so as not to stress the knee while strengthen it. Luke followed my progress weekly and scheduled accordingly, always ensuring that my strength, flexibility and endurance were enhanced without undue stress. The added benefit was that I was enjoying the work out without being in continuous pain. Luke’s knowledge and attention to detail in explaining the exercises so as to ensure the right muscles were being activated were instrumental in attaining my conditioning. I much appreciated that Luke encouraged me to seek outside assistance when necessary, be it physiotherapy, and massage therapy or podiatric treatment. He would ask what they said and adapted the training schedule. Luke was instrumental in my physical preparedness but he was equally an active supporter of my trekking project.

Fantastic experience: I have known Luke for over a year and he has been my coach for 4 months. He is great to work with in helping me obtain my fitness goals. Luke encourages me to give him as much feedback on my daily workouts in order to program a better and more meaningful workout program.

Fantastic experience: About a year ago, I made a decision to start training at Opex and working with my coach Luke. This was one of the best decisions that I have made. I had tried many gyms and worked with many different personal trainers in Regina over the past couple of years. I would hop from gym to gym trying to find the right fit for me. I would start at one gym and would become board with the program that my personal trainer had planned out for me, or, the trainer would just not listen to me and program exercises that I absolutely hated or that would really hurt my body ( specifically my back). This is not the case at all with Opex or with working with my coach Luke. At Opex, my coachLuke listens to what my needs and goals are and specifically programs accordingly. Luke is absolutely fantastic at his job and has such a wealth of knowledge when it comes to fitness ,exercise, physical and mental well being. If you have a question that for some reason Luke does not have the answer to, he will make it a priority to research and find the answers to your fitness and health questions. I really appreciate this personal quality of Luke, demonstrates and validates his dedication to helping and supporting his clients. So, what’s my story? Why did I choose Opex? Well, before I started working with Luke , I was in a terrible amount of pain on a daily basis. I was suffering from back and sciatic pain. My sciatic issues became so awful that my right leg from my hip to my toes were constantly numb and tingling. I literally could not feel my right leg! This was an issues that I had been dealing with for nearly 2 years. I was taking Pain medication daily just to make it through the day and to help me sleep at night. I tried physio it didn’t work. I had steroids injected into my back in an attempt at pain relief, and that didn’t work. I was at the point where I literally didn’t know what to do. I was becoming very frustrated and feeling very hopeless. I was a 36 years old women and I was hobbling around like an old lady trying to chase my 4 year old son around. A friend recommended opex and that’s when I started working with my coach Luke. After a year of hard work, I am happy and beyond excited to say I have no back pain and my numbness throughout my right leg and foot has resolved. Luke is amazing and brilliant for figuring out a workout plan designed specifically to help with my back pain and sciatic nerve issues. The test of the progress of my back were these past 2 weeks. My family and I were on vacation and we had several hours of driving and sitting in a car. I am happy to report that my back and right leg survived the 6+ hours of driving plus all the walking and hiking that we did on our vacation. I am completely shocked that I had no pain or numbness in my leg. I would have never dreamed of doing this last year!! Last year, I avoided several family trips because I would have been in extreme pain for days following any long driving sessions. I can’t say enough good things about Luke and I will always be grateful that our paths have crossed. Working with Luke has been life changing. It has given my quality of life back. I am no longer in a miserable state of constant pain, and most importantly I can play and keep up with my son now.

Fantastic experience: I have had Luke as my coach for almost a year now. I had also previously worked with him at a place called B-Squad (that no longer exists). I had experienced back pain and was very hesitant to return to the gym. Although I was much improved I was very concerned about returning to the gym and re-injuring my back. Luke is the only person I know in Regina that I would trust with this for a couple of reasons. One, he has had his own back problems and therefore gets it and two, he really understands good body mechanics and how to train properly. I am in a really great spot now with my back and and my goals have now progressed beyond "getting and staying out of pain" to "building strength". I attribute this progression to multiple things but one of those things is the programming and training expertise Luke provides. I am confident that Luke knows what he is doing and is tailoring my workouts to my needs and situation. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of quality training, coaching and programming.

Fantastic experience: I initially signed up to have Luke coach me thinking I would work with him for a few months until I got back on track and then continue on my own at the gym at work. 10 months later, I can't quit him! When I started I hadn't been active for a couple of years following ACL reconstruction. I’d only ever played sports and never really trained in a gym. I lacked motivation and I really didn't know where to start. Following a thorough assessment, Luke tailored a program to strengthen my knee and get me comfortable training. He is understanding of my shiftwork schedule and he adapts the type of workouts he plans (aerobic/lifting/active recovery) based on where I am in my work cycle (days/nights/off). He has helped introduce ways to work on reducing stress, improving my sleep and teaches me how to properly fuel my body to achieve my goals. Luke’s coaching has been perfect for what I was trying to attain - consistent, sustainable lifestyle changes. No ‘diet’. Nothing that is super restrictive or unsustainable. No specific timeline to lose x number of lbs or sizes. Just learn to live, eat and move more consciously, to feel better & improve my overall health. At Opex, where Luke is the head coach, my only competition is me & my goals. While there are people who train more intensely than I, Luke’s individualized programming gears my workouts to my current abilities/limitations and constantly pushes me to new levels. He seeks out constant feedback, stays tuned in to where I’m at and adapts my training accordingly and it keeps me motivated. No work out is ever the same. It’s shockingly easy to stay motivated when things are always new and challenging, yet fun. I could take what I’ve learned from Luke and work out on my own, but I know that I won’t. It’s easy to convince myself to skip a work out, but I don’t when I am accountable to him because he keeps me accountable to myself. He is always available for guidance and does a monthly sit down check in to see where I’m at, and make new goals. He is approachable and completely non-judgemental. Luke’s knowledge and passion for helping people to live the best version of themselves makes him an amazing, supportive coach. You won’t regret signing up to work with him!

Fantastic experience: Fun, knowledgeable, caring, approachable, supportive, motivating, engaging…just a few words to describe Coach Luke! And, it’s easy to tell that he absolutely LOVES what he does. He has an excellent knowledge base, is a great motivator and always makes the time to listen to and answer your questions. He encourages you to always strive to push your own personal boundaries but most importantly, he ensures you are doing the moves correctly and reinforces how it will benefit you.

Fantastic experience: I've been training with Luke at Opex for almost a year, in addition to training with him at another gym for several years prior. He is really wonderful fella, who is a good listener--both for what your goals are and what they might be in the future. My chronic back pain disappeared within a few months of strengthening my core under his advisement, and my fitness level has continued to progress, but in a very balanced way. I work out three times a week, feel great and no longer have thousands of dollars of physiotherapy bills per year. He has a great knowledge base for both general fitness levels, as well as those people who are more advanced athletes. And he's more than happy to research and learn what he doesn't know that might help a person.

Fantastic experience: Luke has been a massive part of my development as an athlete. You will not find a more dedicated, knowledgeable and caring coach. I have progressed so much in the last year in the sport of Crossfit, and coupled with the OPEX training model, have never felt better physically or mentally. Whatever your fitness and lifestyle goals are, I am very confident that Luke will help you meet them.

Fantastic experience: I reached a point in life where what I was doing in the gym was not motivating and my eating habits needed to change due to high blood pressure spikes.   I stumbled across OPEX Regina and have never looked back.  Their approach to ‘balance’ in the body was exactly what I was looking for considering I have long time sports injuries.  It’s been almost 4 months and the progress I have made with my coach Luke has put me in the best shape of my life both physically and mentally.  At 47, I can’t remember when I looked forward to going to the gym!  Mix in monitoring my food intake and I have more energy than I ever had.  As for the facilities, the atmosphere, and amazing coaches on the floor, give OPEX the edge with having a family feel in my opinion.  Something I never experienced before and I’m luving it!  I look forward to my journey together with Luke and team.  Hayley’s pairing of me with Luke was spot on.  I can’t begin to say how much I truly appreciate the little things he does to keep me inspired even though I may not show it all the time.  I should probably hug my coach more :)

Fantastic experience: Luke has been my trainer for a few months now. I love Luke's passion for coaching and his eagerness to help people achieve their goals and how he genuinely cares about each and every one of his clients. His enthusiasm when one of his clients has a break through or reaches a goal (big or small) is contagious. Nutrition, exercise and sleep are only small parts of Luke's knowledge when it comes to fitness and lifestyle. Being a middle-aged woman, nutrition and exercise has become very important to me. Luke has steered me towards a lifestyle path that is not only achievable but sustainable. He also makes me realize that it is okay to veer off and indulge once in a while and not feel guilty about it! I love Luke's individualized programming for me - challenging yet achievable. He doesn't make me feel silly if I don't know how to do a certain exercise and he takes the time to ensure I am doing it properly (which can sometimes take a lot of patience!). My workouts are always different and incorporate everything needed to make me stronger. I find myself craving to see what Luke has planned for my next day's work out. I am looking forward to continuing my fitness journey with Luke, as well as with the other great trainers at OPEX Regina who have been a part of my journey so far.
