Ascension Climbing Centre

Negative experience: I will start off by saying the staff are great. Very friendly and engaging. Unfortunately this establishment is lacking in safety inspections and protocols. On my first visit with my children I was standing on a hold that ripped out of the wall 10ft up because it was secured with wood screws that resulted in a large gash on my leg. Grips are supposed to be bolted to a wall, not secured with screws. I also noticed several grips that were loose and instead of being removed were marked with duct tape. It takes the same amount of time to remove them as it does to put duct tape on them. This gym has gaps in their safety protocols and I will not be returning. I only posted this review as they never responded to email stating these same safety issues. Please consider this before taking your family here.

Fantastic experience: I run my own business and love what I do. I can only hope that my customers can see as much of my passion as we could see from the people at Ascension. They were super friendly and helpful with everything from shoe rentals, a quick safety intro, to friendly pointers on tricky features. We had a great time, got in some solid exercise, and were challenged both well within and to the absolute end of our current abilities. I haven't been climbing in over 20 years, but I'm seriously considering a membership as they regularly change up the routes to keep things interesting and challenging. We had to ignore Google maps to find it. It's right behind the storage and sports complex off Gretzky Parkway, across from the police station, just use the parking lot to get behind the building.

Fantastic experience: So much fun. My 10 yr old son and I found this little gem online, went and had a blast. Awesome customer service - knowledgeable and patient teachers of the sport. It was great being outdoors and enjoying the fresh air while we climbed. Can’t wait to see how this place grows and gets better… and go back again!

Fantastic experience: I meant to leave a review after my family's visit here in the summer but never got around to it lol. Highly recommend! Lots of fun, great physical challenge, lots of different games you can play and the owner was awesome. Definitely going back next year :)

Fantastic experience: This place IS great for kids, but as an average V6 climber there were some wild routes to slap at. Amazingly creative and interesting. Also, Greg is next level great and a true guardian of beta. Protect him at all cost. There seems to be interesting events, plans, and additions on the way. 100% recommend. 100% will return.

Fantastic experience: This is a fun, friendly place to go for children and adults alike. Greg, the owner, is an absolute gem with all of his help and great attitude. He’s excellent at keeping kids engaged, whether it’s thinking of new climbing challenges, or starting a game of oversized Jenga. I’m really happy to have this business in Brantford!

Fantastic experience: Wow. We brought our Son for his birthday with a couple of friends. A Simply divine experience. Greg was top notch. He took the time to explain everything and lend guidance when needed but was in no way clingy. He was excellent at getting us to challenge ourselves and expand our comfort zone. But everyone stayed safe and had a blast. Can’t wait to be back!

Fantastic experience: I go here with a season pass and it is amazing. Everyone is so friendly and help you build your skills bit by bit. As a person who is scared of heights I was terrified the first time I got to the top. But the employees helped and set challenges for me, and they’re always renovating and improving the area to make it even more fun. They also sell waters and chalk in different amounts for reasonable prices. The location is a little hard to find, but if you know where you’re going you’re in for hours of fun! :)

Fantastic experience: I've visited with a Scout group and taken my son to climb a few times. It's amazing how quickly and easily Greg can take a scared "I can't!" to a "I just did it" or "I went further than I thought I could". If you want to learn about climbing and try it in an accepting (of all skill levels) environment, this is the place.

Fantastic experience: Really excited to see a cool new gym in Brantford. As a fairly avid climber, there were lots of cool challenges and variety offered here despite the limited space. Really great use of material to create interesting slab and crack problems that I have not seen in any indoor gyms nearby. Excited to see this place grow!

Fantastic experience: It seems good if somewhat small. When we arrived 20 minutes during opening hours there was nobody there to greet us. So we sadly had to turn around. Will go back and try again sometime though!

Fantastic experience: Went here a while back and loved it. There were many routes that were good for beginners and some that were harder. The owner was very nice and made many games to play and challenges to complete. Would recommend to beginners or more advanced athletes in rock climbing.

Fantastic experience: Tonight we checked out ascension rock climbing . My girlfriend, daughter niece and I all participated . It was a little hard to find but with one phone call Greg came to greet us . Two five year old girls can be a handlful and grabbing there attention for more then 5 seconds at a time is tough but Greg nailed it ! He was great with the kids keeping them occupied during the sign in process . When we all got to climb he was so helpful and great with the kids as well as us . He has a gift with the children encouraging and keeping them busy ! Me and my girlfriend had a blast also as he encouraged us and helped us navigate the rock walls . It was a great experience for our family and would go back in heart beat !

Positive experience: The 1st Paris Cub Scouts took part in a fun night of climbing and learning at Ascension Climbing Centre in Brantford. Greg was very helpful in his instructions to the 10 Cub Scouts that attended. The climbing walls are set up to challenge every age climbers from beginners to the more skilled climbers. Our Cub Scouts were able to earn vertical skills badges while having fun. I would recommend Ascension Climbing Centre to any Scout group for a fun and educational event as well anyone starting out to learn to climb this is a great introduction.

Fantastic experience: Tremendous staff and great value all around!

Fantastic experience: Wonderful place and the owner was amazing. The walls themselves are great for beginners like my 8 yr old son and his scouting group but also set up for much more different routes as well for those looking for a challenge like myself. The price was fantastic at $20 for an all day pass. (you can leave and come back as much as you want) I will definitely be going back. Taking friends and maybe even doing some birthday parties for my son. Bit tricky to find as you need to go into the parking lot for access storage then to the left of the building to find their parking lot. Can't wait to get back on the wall and see what this fantastic place becomes in the years ahead.

Fantastic experience: Had our sons 10th birthday party here. The kids all had a blast! Greg was awesome - he was organized and made it so fun, with climbing races and challenges. We stayed about 2.5 hours, but there's no time limit. Party package included pizza/drinks and shoe rental. Picnic tables available inside to use for lunch. Definitely recommend checking this place out and the future expansion sounds very cool!

Fantastic experience: I’m so glad Brantford is starting to get more things to do with my kids. Ascension was an awesome place to spend a few hours climbing with my two kids (11 and 8). There are lots of routes to climb that work for all kinds of skill levels. The staff were super helpful and really encouraging to the kids. They gave them little challenges to help the kids progress and gain confidence through the session. It says a lot when my kids are already planning their next trip back here on the car ride home and telling me that I better give 5 stars for how they were treated and how much fun they had. Will definitely make this a regular place to visit.

Fantastic experience: Had my son's 12th birthday party here, the kids had a blast and Greg was awesome, giving the kids some tips and different challenges to complete and making sure everyone was safe while having fun! Highly recommend!!

Positive experience: 15 dollars for the day Washroom located inside the building Parking very hard to find. Have to go from behind the left side of the Access Storage building and keep going in. Staff very friendly and always there to guide the children

Fantastic experience: Greg was absolutely amazing to deal with when booking my son’s birthday party. He replied promptly, offered helpful suggestions, and accommodated us with last minute changes due to weather. The kids had a super time, learned lots about climbing, and are excited to return soon. Greg and Kai went above and beyond for us. Feedback from guests and parents was all positive and one child even said it was “the best party he’s ever gone to”. I highly recommend you give them a try.

Fantastic experience: Great outdoor climbing centre! Lots of routes to choose from ranging from beginner to more advanced. I brought my significant other who doesn't climb and there were lots of spots to sit and relax and watch in the shade. Staff were super friendly and professional. Willing to offer lots of tips and tricks to help you send it to your full potential! I will definitely be going back.

Fantastic experience: Really awesome outdoor bouldering Gym. Nice routes with lots of places to sit and hang out as well and bathrooms in the adjacent facility. Shoe rentals are available as well! Take the whole family, it's a great spot.

Fantastic experience: Where else can you drop in without reservations, take big (unmasked) breaths of fresh air, and work on creative and challenging boulder problems with friendly folks all around? Ascension makes climbing a frictionless experience for kids and beginners, and still challenges veterans with tricky climbs. This is a great place to be during these weird times, and my only complaint is that it’s 80km away from home for me. It can definitely get hot, but there’s shady spots. Not sure how it’ll be during a rainy day. Be sure to bring sunscreen, water, and tape/bandaids. All available onsite as well. They’re just getting started and I can’t wait to see how this business grows! Big plans for the future: just ask the owner, Greg.

Fantastic experience: What a fantastic place. Being outside is beautiful, especially in the evening, he set out lights... We were there while he installed the kids wall and was so kind to let the kids help pick which handles get installed, and let them test it out after he finished ! An absolutely amazing guy, you can tell he's putting his all into this place. What a great time !

Fantastic experience: I highly enjoyed my time at Ascension Climbing! The mats are very soft and amazing for falling. Greg was very helpful and friendly, createing an amazing energy for climbing and has a clear passion for it! It means a lot to me that I am able to climb outside and breathe the fresh air. I look forward to coming here again and be able to do the harder bouldering problems ☺️

Fantastic experience: I had a great time climbing today at Ascension. The unique location and materials that make up the wall make for a refreshing climbing experience. The staff are also super friendly and passionate about the sport. Expect good vibes and bring lots of water and sunscreen because at this time the wall gets hit with lots of direct sun in the day. The student day fee is very affordable ($15) and there were no advanced bookings needed. This is a very new facility (opened in August 2021 I think) so it sounds like things will constantly be added and improved. It's a little tricky to find so make sure you check the directions in advance (it's tucked behind a large sports warehouse/storage HQ).
