Anytime Fitness Courtenay

Positive experience: Overall a very good gym and staff I saw were very friendly and helpful. Equipment looks really new and in great condition. Lots of squat racks and a good variety of machines. I especially love the variety of Hammer Strength machines, which is awesome to see in a relatively small gym. There is only a single KB of each weight up to a max of 28kg, which was disappointing. They could also do with another rack of dumbbells as there is only a single pair of each weight, but extra points for going up to 100lbs. Pro-tip, label your DB rack to keep it organized. Seems like an easy fix. Everything seemed very clean. Bathrooms are a bit sterile looking. Overall the whole look of the gym is very boring and millennial grey (e.g., grey floor and wall tiles, grey carpet, grey walls) with purple accents, of course. Kind of feels like I'm in a business park gym, very blah but whatever. The one thing I will say is that it does appear that someone has gone a little overboard with all the little notes and signs everywhere. I counted like at least 8-10 distinctly different signs. Feels a little like that annoying roommate who leaves sticky notes everywhere with "friendly" little reminders for the most mundane things. There should only really be a few nicer signs that stay up at all times and if there are issues within the gym then temporary signs should be just that, temporary! Once the issue has been addressed those signs should be taken down. It just looks tacky and a bit unprofessional otherwise.

Fantastic experience: The staff (Joseph and Silas) at the Courtenay BC branch, are incredible. They're always wanting to help everyone to progress, in a safe and productive way, to reach the goals set by us.

Fantastic experience: A Fantastic Experience at Anytime Fitness I've been training at the gym for 2 years now, and I have to say, the experience has been nothing short of amazing, largely thanks to the incredible staff. Joseph, the manager, has been outstanding. Whether it's helping me out with workout plans, giving advice, or just being there for a quick chat, he's always gone above and beyond. His dedication and genuine care for the members really make a difference, and it's clear that he’s passionate about what he does. I also want to give a shoutout to Silas. He's such a positive presence in the gym. His great attitude and the way he cheers everyone on truly add to the welcoming and supportive atmosphere that makes this gym a great place to workout. Thank you, Joseph and Silas, for making this gym feel like a second home! I couldn't ask for a better place to train.

Fantastic experience: Joseph & Silas set the standard for any gym out there. They are helpful, friendly, and personable. The gym is regularly clean and the machines are regularly maintained to keep them running smooth. Most of all, they are inclusive and supportive to members with disabilities. I pay a premium price and I feel like I get a premium experience here. Keep it up!

Negative experience: The gym is very nice and clean, the employees are very kind and respectful, the company is a greedy money hungry make the rich richer kinda business, the laughable owner has replied to people complaining about the price saying the same lie all these big corporations say claiming that it cost a lot to run, I know 100% that it doesn’t cost $90 per member to run, what a joke, and the 30 day cancellation rule is a total joke that is only in place to make a quick buck off members, it really shows you the morals of the owners, when I signed up the guy helping me through it literally told me “you can skip over all that boring legal stuff” and that ended up costing me $90, so yeah owner, reply to this telling me I’m wrong and the 30 day rule is in the contract whatever, you know you are morally wrong and you take advantage of people, everyone reading this go to fitness excellence its half the price and a much better gym, owner if you delete this your gay

Fantastic experience: The gym was immaculate, with spotless floors, well-maintained and regularly sanitized equipment, and pristine washrooms. Joseph and Silas were incredibly friendly, approachable, and eager to assist during my visit. Their dedication was evident as they proactively maintained the gym's high standards by constantly cleaning, offering help to members whenever possible, and being consistently kind and approachable. Their genuine interest in my well-being and progress created a welcoming and supportive atmosphere at Anytime Fitness Courtenay. Overall, the combination of a clean facility and super friendly, hardworking staff made my time here exceptional. I would highly recommend this gym to all my friends, family and everyone else in the Comox Valley.

Fantastic experience: This is the largest, most fully featured, newest, cleanest gym I've ever been to! I thoroughly enjoyed my workout and found it very rewarding to try some new machines. I especially enjoyed the assisted pull-up machine; I didn't expect to find such glee in experiencing the motion of pullups! It makes me excited to continue to work towards unassisted ones! Trainer Silas is a solid dude. His gym tour, guidance, and encouragement with using some of the new machines were top-notch. The energy he brings adds a new dimension to working out! Courtenay Anytime Fitness for the win!

Negative experience: Walked 30 minutes in the rain for a closed gym. For people who are dropping in, THE GYM CLOSES AT 6PM.

Negative experience: Hi, gym facilities are actually great. I put 1 star for the impossible, manipulative cancellation contract. It's a poor, scarcity minded business model. No other industry works this way. People have lives that are constantly changing. I moved out of country to a country without Anytime and now I will pay every month for 2 years and not use that gym. It's another form of slavery in the modern world. -update, after dozens of back and forth emails and this Google review they have cancelled the contract.

Negative experience: Nice facility with friendly staff but way too expensive. $90/month + $50 sign up fee + $50 fob fee is crazy. You're looking at over $200 with tax before you even start your first workout. I understand that you can save money if you buy a longer commitment but $270 for 3 months and $933 for 12 months is almost no better. The price of gyms in the valley has gotten out of control. Sorry Moneytime Fitness.

Negative experience: VERY POOR customer service, I have a legitimate medical condition preventing me from attending the gym and they are making it almost impossible to cancel my membership. Absolutely no understanding. Update: I have been keeping this gym updated about my financial, health and moving plans for months now. I ended up at the emergency due to sharp knee pain that I have been suffering for months. They asked for a “family doctors note” which most of the people on the island don’t have the privilege for and also explained how I don’t have “proof” for my emergency visit. Once I provided them with proof of my flight tickets and a mail to my new address in the new province, they are asking for new government issued id, which again takes months to receive. This gym took money for the month of November on a weekly basis when I specifically requested them multiple times that I’m struggling financially to pay even for my groceries in this economy. And now they have accused me of using google to get what I want. This is the kind of service you would be receiving if you ever sign up for a gym membership here. Your proofs and explanations are not adequate and they are out of touch in understanding the struggles of people that are not as privileged as people who seems to be working here. This is not my first time at a gym and this is very unfortunate to be dealing with.

Fantastic experience: Super clean, very well maintained and extremely neutral/comfortable environment! No sign up sheets (to conflict with others!) and it’s a very supportive atmosphere with a wide range of people. The staff are welcoming and encouraging, always have a smile and like to “check in” to say hi or come around to answer any questions on equipment usage. The monthly cost is comparable to any fitness membership but the value is MUCH more here considering there’s no opening hours that’s you’re limited to. (Bonus- everything is BRAND new!) I also had a personal training session with Dannielle (included in the package), I learned a lot- just in the one session. It was so informative and beneficial- and I walked away learning some super effective exercises that I would have never found on my own. Also learning tips about importance of rest time, recovery- etc. this girl knows her stuff!! and is SO personable :) Highly recommend!!

Fantastic experience: My experience at anytime fitness was amazing. The girl that helped me was Dannielle and she was very positive and upbeat. She is very knowledgeable of the machines and corrected my positioning so I wouldn’t hurt myself. The gym is very clean and modern and has a nice atmosphere. I’ll be using Anytime Fitness again in the future.

Negative experience: I'm an elderly lady, I asked for assistance to help leave the gym and the staff tells me to figure it out. Extremely dissapointed. Pre well hurt my back leaving this place.

Negative experience: Door was locked when we approached, took them 5 mins to open the door , then they told 7 of us they did not want our business and told us it was overpriced anyways. Made a racist remark to my co workers.

Negative experience: Not impressed with the management or employees at this gym. Came in with the hopes of getting a membership for 7 people. Found the staff to be very rude and dismissive. It appeared that they would rather lose our business than take the time to sign us all up. In fact the young lady stated when I asked if she would rather lose our business she replied yes. She also stated that their memberships were overpriced. Unbelievable!

Negative experience: Rude staff. Wouldn’t offer 7 day trial when we signed up on the website it had that location included for the trial. When we asked about it lady at the front was rude and passive aggressive. Owner responds to reviews with “funny how” great customer service.

Negative experience: If I could leave a zero star review, to be honest I would incredibly disappointed. We should up with a seven day trial, that specifically notes that location. The woman at the front denied 7 potential members, that were looking to sign up after the trial. She explained the monthly was 33 bi weekly which is more then GoodLife, with less benefits. Definitely not impressed when it came to that location would not recommend, them in the future. Even better when the owner replies, to my review in a very passive aggressive way. Shows the maturity of the owner, based on that use the gym at your own discretion.

Negative experience: The gym is new and very clean. As it should be for a new gym. Staff was friendly. However, I review is as low as it is due to the cost of a membership. Almost $90 a month to use it. INot very affordable at all. No promotions for new sign ups. I do know that they offer a one week trial as I've seen it listed online. However, when I went into the location I was not offered anything and asking about pricing and contracts. I would use the gym if it was more affordable. We're living in Langley. I used to pay under $50 a month for the gym which was open 24/7 via key fob.

Fantastic experience: Nice to see an anytime fitness in Courtenay! (I am a sales rep and travel across BC) Nice layout, location and lots of parking. Bright and airy feel with lots of windows. Very clean. If you haven't checked it out yet take the time to do so!
