Our comment from FitFit Canada about Seton YMCA:
Seton YMCA, located in Calgary, Canada, is a popular destination for fitness enthusiasts and families alike. The center boasts fantastic facilities, including:
- Amazing Water Park: Visitors rave about the water park, which features fun slides, a lazy river, and wave runner attractions that are perfect for kids and adults.
- Spacious Gym: The gym is well-equipped with a variety of workout machines and spacious areas for fitness classes, making it a great place for both casual and serious athletes.
- Swim Facilities: The center includes large lap pools ideal for competitions and casual swimming sessions.
- Additional Amenities: A library, basketball courts, and even an ice rink offer a diverse range of activities for all ages.
While many visitors love the facilities and find them well-maintained, there have been some common complaints:
- Crowded Atmosphere: It can get very busy, especially during peak hours, leading to long wait times for pool access and other activities.
- Staff Issues: Some guests have reported unfriendly or unhelpful staff experiences, which can detract from their overall enjoyment.
- Pricing Concerns: A few users found the membership fees to be on the high side.
Overall, Seton YMCA remains a well-loved spot with plenty to offer, despite some areas for improvement.
Seton YMCA: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Love coming here, especially for the water park. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in SE + swimming pool
Negative experience: 1) Always crowded. 2) Over priced. 3) Horrible staff.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic facility
Fantastic experience: Doesn't get as crowded as other locations.
Fantastic experience: Big Gym, lots of equipment
Fantastic experience: Big one
Fantastic experience: Compared to other YMCA that I've enjoyed, this is a really great facility with courts, gym, 2 large lap pools for competition, large steam room, river run, and even a hockey rink.
Fantastic experience: Amaizing
Negative experience: I took a member to spend time with the younger child in the pool while the older one was studying. Today an unpleasant story happened. The pool was overcrowded, but it turns out you could get in by standing in line, but no one told me about it. We left and later the man explained to me that it was possible to wait and get in. Why didn't anyone tell me about this right away and I wasted time.
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym and water facility’s
Positive experience: 很喜欢这里可以尽情玩一下午,可惜跳台关闭了!
Fantastic experience: I was clean and big and the seruwas great
Negative experience: Pros: -New fairly nice facility -Basket ball courts outside Cons: -2.5 hour limit parking lot or you have to pay. -The clerical systems they use are about as efficient and useful as square wheels on a bike. Have seen drop in registration for 1-2 people take well over 10mins. -Broken things all the time. Mens faucets haven't worked in the month that I've been going. All towel hooks in change stalls have been ripped off by what i assume are ignorant children. The motorized divider in the pool isn't working so the diving boards aren't accessible. Water fountain in lane pool was turned off because someone poured out tea leafs and instead of someone cleaning it out they just shut it off. The Adult hot tub was closed for a month. - half the life guards seem to have sewn a very condescending culture. Extremely rude and entitled. Seeing the way they talk to some people is embarrassing. Very eager to prove themselves to bad management. - A minor injury is considered critical and pools are shut down and cleared out until the 30 lifeguards on duty have assessed and reassessed. Im sorry but a scraped knee or someone dizzy is not ground to disrupt services for an hour and have everyone out of the pool. They can walk, talk and function they can be brought to a medical room. NOT call paramedics to come pool side. Embarrassing and a waste of public resource. -Kids have to pass a swimming exam if rhey dont want to wear a life Jacket. Which includes a proper front crawl down a full lane. 95% of the adults would fail that just because of the breathing rhythm. The beuracracy obviously thick. Over all i have been going for a month and my experience has been mostly good in the sense that i go swim a couple lanes and shoot the basketball around for a bit. I avoid conflict and bite my tongue. That is until one of the lifeguards decided to project her hyper sensitive delusions to me directly. She accused me of quote ”staring” at paramedics and told me To stop in the tone and mannerism of how someone would address a misbehaving toddler. then rolled her eyes at me when i said “excuse me?” Again embarrassing how socially awkward and inappropriate these people can be. The group of strangers i was standing with were even like “did she actually just do that”. I dont know what world she lives in but its not the real one… Anyways, will be trying out quarry park and if that shows the same problems ill drive to Lindsay Park and be done with YMCA.
Fantastic experience: Local para passar algumas horas praticando atividades físicas, lendo na biblioteca ou simplesmente se divertindo em família ou com os amigos! A proposta é um pouquinho parecida com o que o Sesc oferece...
Negative experience: Great faculty, with hundreds of entitled, disrespectful teenagers that doesn't follow rules and if you say something, they challenge you back. With a dedicated badminton be gym scheduled and booked, we always have teens shooting hoods right above our heads. We always has to police and waste our time argue to keep them away. Then they come back bouncing their balls, step on badminton court just because, they can't accept 'no' . For swimming, they have a wristband bracelet system. Kids can complete a swim test, so our kid can swim on her own. But everytime we have to wait at the Lifeguard office to get that green band. Sometimes, tablet doesn't work, no Lifeguard in the office, alot of people waiting, and we have to wait 10-15 mins in our suits. Sometimes when my daughter finally got the band. My son already finished his swimming. It takes forever and it's a process that one has to go through every single time.
Fantastic experience: Very fun pool and library
Positive experience: Local ymca
Negative experience: Unfortunately quite rude staff numerous accounts. First account was them not letting me in when I had been told by a previous employee that I could use my boyfriends drop ins since he was moving out of country, and them being quite rude about it. Another time was going to gym since Quarry park was closed, I left my keys+card in the small lockers post workout and asked to be let back in. For some reason system didn't show that I was in there, although I have an account (how else would I have gone in?) and instead of being kind the lady at the front said I had no account which was simply not true. Took another employee to recognize me from doing my workout to be let back in to grab my things.
Positive experience: Parking is 2 ½ hours, more than that you have to pay for parking.
Fantastic experience: Massive and beautiful facility and space, fantastic water slides, lazy river and gym.
Negative experience: Terrible place. Loved it when it opened but the people that work there are unfriendly and unhelpful. Ive had to step in to stop life guards tearing into small children. Ive even had them try and lecture me but after speaking to their supervisor was told the girl in question was a known problem... why employ her then? The whole place needs a change of personnel and that starts at the top. I along with many others have cancelled YMCA and gone to other places. Members are treated like children, facility prioritizes classes over people and cant even partially open spots. Why do we pay money if we cant even use this place? YMCA SETON gives Air Canada a run for its money for the most useless and pathetic operation in this country ... NOT WORTH THE MONEY .. TAKE YOUR KIDS AND YOUR CASH SOMEHWRE ELSE.
Positive experience: Huge facility, but somehow always full and overcrowded.
Positive experience: Great facilities, long wait times to get helped if you're not a member to scan in. No one answers the phone even if it's not busy I have called the first thing in the morning been on hold the whole 20 min drive there, parked went inside and there were no line ups and still the phone was not attend to!!
Fantastic experience: Prices could be cheaper and more affordable!
Positive experience: My son is in swimming class. I would really like the trainers conducting the classes to not only give tasks for the children, but also help if the children do something wrong. Very often children fail, but no one tells them about it or helps them do it right.
Fantastic experience: An exceptional facility. Houses many areas including an ice rink, pool, library, theatre and more. Calgary is very fortunate to have this top class wellness centre.
Fantastic experience: Good team .. good facility.. amazing swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Has good workout area and enjoyable scenery.
Fantastic experience: Fun slides, lazy river is relaxing
Fantastic experience: My experience there is been great very clean the staff always try to go above and beyond to help you and point you in the right direction ,lots of parking ,close to everything ,they even have a small coffee shop ...
Fantastic experience: There are many activities and services that one can partake in at the YMCA. I like the very popular drop-in class, Deep Water Fitness. There are also strength classes, yoga practices, cycle sessions, lane swimming, huge gymnasium and so much more part of the drop-in classes. This YMCA has women's, men's and universal locker rooms.
Fantastic experience: Big swimming pool indoor. Surf indoor. Steam room. Workout. Really amzing trainer for zumba fitness and yoga or fitness and steps
Negative experience: They don't keep accurate schedules and there's rental priority over the members. Multiple times, including today, I've showed up to ball and a school has the gym.. no notice, no booking. If this was a member based facility there'd always be a half court open for members. After today...being the third time, I canceled my membership. I'll ball where the members are the priority thanks.
Negative experience: Tried to call ahead, they wouldn't answer their phones. Arrived at a facility at full capacity. ANSWER YOUR PHONES
Negative experience: The front desk staff was very unfriendly, which has discouraged me from becoming a membership. However, you won't care about one or two members anyway.
Negative experience: Ruby the lifeguard with dark curly hair has to be the most unpleasant/unprofessional lifeguard I’ve met at any pool. Her attitude towards patrons/customer's is ridiculous she walks around with a pouty look on her face like she hates her job and ignores customers questions. Half the time guarding she’s not paying attention leaving her station to go gossip in the guard office. And orders people around with a disrespectful tone in her voice. I am very disappointed with the ymca because the way I was talked down on as if I was less then her and called names like “stupid” just for having my phone in the hot tub then was told I had to leave. ive been a member since 2007 and am appalled at the way I was treated today. YMCA seton you need to have a talk with ur Guards about being polite to customers and also watching the pool and actually doing there job instead of just taking to other guards and leaving a station unattended
Positive experience: I love this pool so much, but it’s so busy in the evenings. I’m lucky enough to be able to come in the morning when it’s not busy and the full 50m lanes are open.
Fantastic experience: Very well-appointed facility with swimming pool , hot tub, river run, and tube slide. Also has a gym which I didn't see this trip.
Fantastic experience: Enjoying the pool area, swimming for an hour, two or three times a week! Love it!
Negative experience: It would be nice if they actually open the surf pool and both waterslides and had a second hot tub
Negative experience: It was my favorite place when I moved to Auburn Bay 2 years ago . I was visiting almost every day YMCA with my family .But I don’t feel that it’s safety place to spend the time anymore . I pay 80$ /month and here is no guarantee that when I back to the locker I’ll find my stuff here. And I don’t feel safe to let my son go to the gym after the accident with the knife attack during the day in the gym. The management must urgently take some safety measures! This is not normal at all, what happens every month! Yesterday our friend's locker was broken into, his wallet and car keys were taken, after which the car was stolen and the money taken .How does a person enter the hall with a knife? Here are a lots of kids around ! Install video cameras, install metal detectors! I’m going to find another place .
Positive experience: As much as I love how close I live to this Y the people that manage the building need to be replaced. I've been going there for over a year now and unless you can leave work mid day the pool is ALWAYS over booked with rentals and lessons. Whoever does their building maintenance needs retraining (there's faucets in the men's bathrooms that haven't worked properly ever). The competion hot tub seems to work for a month and then it's gated off for 3 months. The bonus though is the gym seems to be big enough it never feels overfull with people.
Negative experience: Ruby is one of the lifeguards who gave us a terrible experience. Ruby was rude and difficult very aggressive. She was unfriendly and unwelcoming. Surprised you would hire such a life guard with terrible attitude. Rather die drowning than you talking to me again. Thanks for nothing ruby.. canceled my membership because of you.
Negative experience: Very unsafe place to work out. Especially the basketball court is very slippery and always close for other activities without any notice.
Positive experience: I feel membership is expensive for middle class people
Positive experience: Nice place for activities. Staff and volunteers are quite helpful. The location is very convenient.
Positive experience: It's great when they actually open the doors on time for 6:30 AM practices... But they don't always do it, so plan accordingly
Fantastic experience: Staff and volunteers are very Helpful and friendly.
Positive experience: fantastic pool - plenty of Olympic lanes - relaxing lazy river - two hot tubs one adults only - big steam room decent gym - facility well maintained
Fantastic experience: Played and swam in the water park and had such a good time. Water temp was lovely. Got there early and hardly any families there yet on a Saturday.
Fantastic experience: Great helpful staff. Very clean. Great facilities. The competition pool with platform diving is great fun for the kids. They open up the 5m and 3m platforms for public swims. The kids pool with slides, lazy river and wave runner are great attractions as well.
Fantastic experience: Awesome fitness center.
Positive experience: Very crowded but nice
Fantastic experience: Njj
Fantastic experience: amazinggggg
Fantastic experience: A great place for recreation and sports
Negative experience: Nice place but pool on weekends can be overcapacity and there is a lineup
Negative experience: Always understaffed....have to wait in the lobby for pool capacity. Can't get someone to answer the phone.
Positive experience: Nice calming place. Somehow, the staff is always so annoying
Negative experience: Gym is over crowded.
Positive experience: 체육시설, 수영장,hot tub 모두 좋아요!
Fantastic experience: Great YMCA, highly recommend for all family's and even just on your own. Great Gym and water park
Negative experience: The general manager (He looks like from East India) is so rude. He did not allow me to talk and explain the situation. He did inappropriate behavior on purpose to me. He gave me a hard time when I was trying to explain my situation. He prejudged me before listening to me. He did not allow me to meet the CEO of YMCA. I do not know; how can I make an appointment with the CEO of YMCA? He damaged and injured my dignity, self-respect, emotional and personality.
Negative experience: Got tube has been down for over 2 weeks and nobody know when it will be fixed, floors are all black including steam room, not impressed for new building.
Positive experience: Great facility with great amenities like the library, the surf simulator and lane swimming, basketball courts, running track, cardio machines and weights. Always quite busy, sometimes the water park is full and there's a wait to get in.
Positive experience: The facility is excellent and seems to be well maintained for the most part however the lines are ridiculously long and the prices are very steep for a community center.
Positive experience: Love it but for something that’s new and for charging people premium pricing the facilities and equipment should be working in top notch shape which is not always the case…ie the ladies bathroom sinks has had almost no flowing water for over 6 mths/workout equipment out of service needs to be tended to more swiftly…other than that, a great place for individuals at all levels and the whole family
Negative experience: Horrible check in!!!! 48 minutes in line. Such a poor run operation! Nice facilities but that's about it.
Fantastic experience: Been going there early in the morning to work out and swim. Big change since I got a membership. No more waiting in lines to pay drop in fee.
Fantastic experience: Любимое место всей нашей семьи. Все безупречно от чистоты, персонала, мест для спорта и отдыха.
Positive experience: It seems like the showers in the dressing rooms of the ice rink never work.
Negative experience: New but poorly maintained facilities. Constant maintenance issues that are not repaired.
