Midland YMCA: Opinions
Positive experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Incredible place, people & environment! Everyone is welcoming and kind. It's nice to have a place like the Midland Ymca to come to!
Fantastic experience: Everything amazing
Fantastic experience: Staff is more then helpful and have many times gone out of their way to help thanks guys always a pleasure and Pablo ty for keeping the candy dish full
Fantastic experience: Good
Fantastic experience: Great Y and the staff are fantastic!
Negative experience: We use to enjoy visiting here up until recently when we witnessed the head lifeguard mistreating young children learning to swim. She’d grab children aggressively, pin their arms by their sides while bringing them out deeper and putting their faces in the water, yelling at parents and telling them to leave and come back after the lesson with no real rhyme or reason, or not paying attention to them at all during the lesson to where their heads were underwater. It was absolutely sickening to watch. Multiple kids and multiple parents this happened to on numerous occasions with this lifeguard. I have no idea why they have someone like that employed there teaching kids to swim.
Negative experience: The employees here are terrible people and even though the YMCA is a non profit organization there is certainly some shady financial incentives in place here. Also they do not provide towels any longer and the hygiene of the mens changing room is poor at best.
Fantastic experience: Awesome!
Fantastic experience: The staff here is the best. They are always so upbeat and welcoming!
Negative experience: Not all YMCA's are equal. Rates go way up - services go way down, Constant repairs means no amenities Lifeguards don't show up on Sunday mornings for members to use the pool. Manager does not respond to concerns. Closes at 3pm on the weekends. I wish the new rec centre they opposed did happen, it would have created competition and a cancelled ymca membership. Until then, we have to put up with it.
Positive experience: This is a great place to meet and exercise
Positive experience: Good equipment. Friendly staff. Clean
Fantastic experience: We love going to the ymca daily
Fantastic experience: I workout in the gym 3 days a week. Have learned to go after one p m then the machines are more readily available
Fantastic experience: Pricy compared to other facilities in the region, and missing a hot tub!
Negative experience: Lots of organized hatred here
Fantastic experience: Really enjoy and very clean!
Fantastic experience: If it were not for the support and knowledge of the YMCA team, I would not have had the courage to attempt the Bronze Cross this summer. Life Guards like Jesse always provide a sense of safety & camaraderie on the pool deck. Fitness expert Kat showed me a simple, effective stretch that protected my shoulders for endurance swim training. Thank you YMCA Midland for the positive impact you have in the community.
Fantastic experience: Friendly place good equipment
Positive experience: The desk staff works relentlessly. The YMCA is not what it use to be. $$$ is what matters now.
Fantastic experience: Staff was friendly and they have all the equipment for a good workout. Place was cleaner compared to my previous visits, especially in the change room. The decision to swap out the hot tub for a steam room was a good one.
Positive experience: There a bit strick give to many warnings but great new stuff
Negative experience: I drove 20 minutes to go workout because online it said that they where open but when I arrived it was closed. Even the hours on the door said that they where open
Positive experience: Super friendly staff. Offers swimming, a gym, basketball courts, sauna. My infant son took swimming lessons here and his instructor was patient and understanding. The pool for kids is very warm. The atmosphere is welcoming. Would recommend this YMCA!
Negative experience: Called for information regarding membership and after five days I still have not received a response from them
Positive experience: An old building and broken up into various rooms. Staff was friendly and helpful! Steam room, but not working!
Positive experience: Great facility. Friendly staff. We had fun! The only complaint I have is that wheelchair accessibility is at the back of the building, and not at the main entrance.
Fantastic experience: Main place in town my kids go play basketball, workout or swim
Fantastic experience: I love this Y location! The staff are always pleasant and it's such a friendly place. Most Y members are chatty and polite, you get the odd person who thinks that they own the place because they pay for a membership, but overall 5/5 stars
Positive experience: Bathrooms need a face-lift. The only stall door doesn't lock. Hard for kids that change in them to feel safe.
Fantastic experience: Nice gym, good people and low fees.
Positive experience: Not very nice inside. But freindly people
Positive experience: When it’s good it’s good.
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff is very friendly and helpful there great programs for children youth and adults I find it always clean and affordable for a memberships my child loves swimming lessons and the y kids programs great for kids to meet up and stay active if your parent there's always a class to start
Fantastic experience: Great way to get out with little ones. Amazing friendly staff.
Positive experience: Nice Facility, little expensive.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff, clean environment
Negative experience: They oddly shut down in the middle of the day from 130-330 during prime business hours.
Positive experience: Very well run YMCS
Positive experience: just seems smaller than I remember but the pool was refreshingly clear
Fantastic experience: Everything you would expect at the Y.
Negative experience: Horrible customer service. They close in the middle of the day to “clean” which is a lie cause it’s filthy in there. They sent a female into the male change room to kick me out at 1:33pm because they close at 1:30pm. Her exact words were “It’s time to get out.” Heaven forbid they’d have to stay a minute later or perform some semblance of customer service to full-paying customers, what a hard job they must have. The skinny dark hair man on the counter today also made a point of telling me how late I was, as I was less than 5 minutes over their precious closing time. Not to mention I’ve been a member with them on and off since around 2008. They don’t appreciate their customers at a time when other YMCAs were shut down permanently. Won’t be returning ever.
Negative experience: bet you have a better gym in your garage/basement. Although the staff on reception were really welcoming and polite (5 stars to them for their service) .
Fantastic experience: Great place to take the whole family! Not only can you bring people of all ages, but you can spend the entire day there and not run out of things to do. The staff are extremely knowledgable about the local area, they are patient, friendly and willing to do whatever it takes to offer a great experience for its patrons. The pool is clean and well maintained, the gym always has nice clean floors. The fitness programs are well thought out and designed specifically with members in mind. The child and youth programming is well run, safe and educational. I love the Midland YMCA!!
Fantastic experience: I love it! We can go there all together as a family and have fun!
Fantastic experience: Great staff. Clean facility.
Positive experience: People at the front desk were friendly as well Hope. Hope helped me with the treadmill this afternoon. I went in at the last minute. She had to make a couple calls but took the time to help me out. I have an appointment with Cat on Thursday to help me with the other equipment. Looking forward to the training on Thursday.
Positive experience: First time back since just after covid when it was open but no change rooms and masks were required. Things are pretty much back to normal, pretty pricey but if you use the other facilities like pool and gym and take advantage of the activities there like pickleball, open gym etc....it's greater value than "Anytime Fitness"
Fantastic experience: Love this place and all the employees
Fantastic experience: They've changed this place place so much that you'd hardly recognize it, compared to the 70s. A wonderful place to exercise.
Positive experience: Need to get the pool fixed. Main reason we joined.
Fantastic experience: Tons of classes
Positive experience: Good swimming
Negative experience: sauna is usually down for maintenance for a solid amount of time each year. weight room needs alot of work. it's like the ymcas sad younger brother who got into drugs and never became a good functioning member of society YMCA.
Positive experience: They are not open full hours, being closed from 1:30-3:30 making a backlog for students wanting to come and use the open gym. Closed for large parts of the weekend, which doesn't make sense for a gym. The pool is open, but the hot tub, saunas and towel service are not. Check in is complicated. Vaccine proof really needs to be tied to the cards and should only have to be shown once. Self check in could then be that, self admin and faster. The staff are trying so very hard, but they are stuck with some dumb policies.
Fantastic experience: The staff are friendly and helpful, people greet each nicely, the other members are easy to talk to and polite, the hours are perfect. We have had a family membership for years. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
Fantastic experience: Great choices of activities and very friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Open swimming could be longer and the whole pool. Cmon guys
Fantastic experience: Very friendly atmosphere
Fantastic experience: Always will live this y the people are the nicest and the programs are phenomena
Fantastic experience: My feelings on the YMCA is that they are so friendly and eager to help. Your like family in Midland at the YMCA
Fantastic experience: Watched the wrestling with my grandson...go yearly
Fantastic experience: Best
Positive experience: Wonderful people, real sense of community, lots of equipment in the gym in good condition, hot sauna and whirlpool. But the showers ... I had better ones in the army !
Fantastic experience: Great place to do your workout
Positive experience: Great people, friendly environment
Fantastic experience: Great staff. Clean
Fantastic experience: Best place in midland
Fantastic experience: Clean and fantastic staff!
Negative experience: Majority of staff are rude and really rude to teenagers when no adults are present. Let your kids know that this is inappropriate and they should let you know if it happens. I complained yet they remain rude and mock you. We don't pay our fees for this behaviour.
Positive experience: Excellent facility
Positive experience: Nice facility
Positive experience: Lots of programs for members and non members alike. Recently joined and a little pricey per month but I understand there reasoning.
Negative experience: Lacking some equipment
Positive experience: Good equipment. Quiet place. More for mature people.
Fantastic experience: Art Camp is awesome
Positive experience: The Midland YMCA is located in an older space challenged facility. That being said the management and staff work hard at providing friendly efficient service to a broad spectrum of members. Located by the beautiful Little Lake Park setting, this facility serves the full time and seasonal population of this area of Simcoe County. Limited amounts of exercise equipment is available and you may have to wait to use it. Programs including yoga gravity, aquafit, swimming, squash , power fitness etc. are scheduled regularly throughout the week. There is an indoor track and activities available for babies to seniors; all administered by attentive and caring staff. Change facilities need upgrading and the mens spa needs some serious improvements. Parking is ample and free. Membership fees are reasonably low.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, activities for all ages swimming pool gym etc. Its great!
Fantastic experience: Great clean gym!
Positive experience: I like it here and am relatively satisfied with the facility overall. The building, even the reconstruction is beginning to show it's age but overall is pretty decent. The atmosphere is pretty low key and easy to be in and sometimes gets really busy but the chaos doesn't usually last very long. Friday nights I usually avoid because of too many kids coming for Youth Night (instead of hanging out on the streets or gaming at home alone). Classes provided are fun to do and can be added to your personal challenge bucket list and most of them are included with your membership. LOVE the hottub IN the PlusChangeroom as that is great to decompress after workingout in a more private and segregated space rather than in a common area.
Positive experience: Small gym
Positive experience: A great place to go and get some exercise. You can go for a swim or join a class to workout. I don't like how they have made the changing facilities.
Negative experience: Brought my 2 young kids there for the "family day activities" that was supposed to be staff led games between 11am and 3pm. The staff never led any games and they packed up all the activities at 1:30 eveb though there was a bunch of young kids still playing. Teens playing basketball almost hit my 2 year old several times. We left in a hurry. Staff seemed dismissive and rude. Will not be going back.
Positive experience: Staff were friendly and efficient. The pool water temperature is always too cool for many swimmers. As well, the temperature in the Family Changeroom is very uncomfortably cool. The floor renovation is a wonderful improvement.
Fantastic experience: Great place! Has everything for a good workout!
Negative experience: Visiting pool for exercise. compared to Alberta the prices are 30- 50 % higher for a below average pool facility. The men's upstairs change room, hot tub and sauna are extremely dirty. The rug looks like a dog mat.( I like dogs) Looking into the hot tub with no jets running the bottom was covered with foreign objects and hair. The water was milky white and lukewarm when I dared stick my toe in ! Staff were very friendly but from the information from family and the public a great deal of the public frequent the local motels like the Quality Inn for approximately $ 8.00
Positive experience: Man oh man this place is certainly a YMCA but its not the best ive seen, a lot of questions that are left unanswered but a Ymca none the less.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out
Positive experience: Clean and friendly, great equipment and indoor pool!
Fantastic experience: Great price and good fun for the family.
Fantastic experience: I think you guys are good for the Programs but also keep working hard and accept people for who they are
Negative experience: They overcharge a lot considering the disgusting change rooms and pool facilities. The gym is ok but they don't have a lot of options for legs and the stretching room is very far from the gym. The staff are rude and unhelpful for the most part.
Fantastic experience: Great fitness place...love the privacy of hottub n sauna from kids...lots to do
Negative experience: Was horrible experience staff is rude and unwelcoming
Fantastic experience: Even thought the equipment tortures me on a daily basis, I love this YMCA. Everyone is friendly and supportive.
Positive experience: It is YMCA
Fantastic experience: I love the ymca
Fantastic experience: Great factilty
Positive experience: We go for the family swim. My baby loves it! Water is above temperature, although change rooms are pretty cold. Staff is very friendly.
