Fantastic experience: I don't normally write reviews but wanted to big up Shakti. The only 'old school' gym in Mtl that I know of (and by old skool I mean hard, crimpy boulders which resemble real rock routes as opposed to coordination parcour dynos). Lots of people talking about climbing outdoors. Lots of people training for climbing outdoors. There's a super nice crack climbing section (again, never seen this before in a gym) Prices are super reasonable. 100% recommend to everyone.

Fantastic experience: Après quelques séances, je dois dire ce gym est amazing, les employés sont chaleureux et invitants, de même pour les grimpeurs, tout le monde est respectueux et agréable, 10/10 :))

Negative experience: I expected a climbing gym to be inclusive to ppl with different views and I was unpleasantly surprised by an "Israel apartheid" poster in the change room. If they are so keen to express their views in the gym, they'd better let ppl know in advance. Wasted 10m signing the waiver, at least they issued a refund. Hard to judge problems without trying them, but the place is quite small and walls are too short even for bouldering.

Fantastic experience: La première fois que je visite une salle comme celle-ci, un peu désorienté au début (les voies sont marquées par du tape) mais je me suis bien amusé ! L'ambiance est très amicale, chill et inclusive. La deco est sympa et l'utilisation du tape plutôt que des couleurs de prises pour les voies permet d'avoir de belles voies techniques. Je reviendrais !

Positive experience: Very chill vibe here, super homey! I wasn’t used to the colour coding/taping of the setting so I found it a bit confusing, but I think I would get used to it after a few sessions. Also great value for a day pass on the Sunday!!!

Fantastic experience: Good difficulty level. It got even better when they added the kilterboard. Best community in Montreal. The first time I visited after Covid some people were cheering me on a problem and they invited me to go to Val David the following weekend. Next thing I know I was climbing outdoors for the first time in my life! And made deep friendships :)

Positive experience: friendly gym, although the first time, it smelled like shoes. but not the few times after that. very affordable compared to other montreal’s climbing gyms’ subscription. only thing is that is not that big and is traditional style which i prefer.

Negative experience: Très petit pour trop de monde. Prise et installation du moyen âge.

Negative experience: Nous avons retrouvé des vis sur le planchers près des matelas endroit ou les gens marches nu pied. Très dangereux et l'administration n'a montrer aucun intéret envers notre sécurité. Vieille prise rapport qualité prix nul.

Fantastic experience: La salle d'escalade la plus authentique de Montréal ! Vous y trouverez une ambiance conviviale et inclusive. Les problèmes sont divers et variés et il ne faut pas prendre peur devant la multitude de prises colorés. Il a un reset d'un pan de mur environ chaque semaine et des reset complet tous les mois et demi. Le nouveau Kilter et espace d'entraînement est une raison supplémentaire de prendre un abonnement au Shakti .

Fantastic experience: I dont climb but i came here once during a thunderous downpour with a child who is a prodigy in her own right and they let her climb for free and she could do all the runs herself scampering up and down and leaping onto the mats like a little monkey and everyone was very impressed, myself included

Fantastic experience: J'ai trouvé dans cette salle l'ambiance que je cherchais en arrivant à Montréal. Ce n'est pas la salle la plus grande, ni celle avec les voies les plus claires ou encore la plus adaptée à tous les niveaux, mais elle est vivante et on s'y sent bien. Tout le monde est très gentil et semble former une petite famille, ce qui rend l'expérience vraiment sympa. En tant que débutant j'y trouve mon bonheur, même si les voies les plus simples n'étaient pas données au début. Attendez-vous à devoir repérer votre voie avant de grimper, et soyez certains que si vous ne voyez pas une prise quelqu'un viendra vous aider. C'est exactement le genre de salles d'escalade que j'aime, familiale et qui respire la passion. En bonus c'est la moins chère de Montréal.

Fantastic experience: Shakti is a magical place. The set up is equally inviting to read, do yoga, or climb. The local staff and crowd are super friendly, the boulder problems rotate often and are interesting at all levels. There are also periodic social activities. I can't wait for the new extension to open!

Fantastic experience: The routes were a little challenging for a beginner, but when you finally get them, it feels amazing! They have a super welcoming vibe and are queer friendly. I also started taking the beginner classes with Savannah and am learning a lot of techniques that have been very helpful in progressing as a beginner.

Fantastic experience: A truly old-school, DIY-style bouldering gym with a whiff of young activist's energy in an urban industrial district. Prices are best you can find in town, nearly half of what you'd pay at any other bouldering gym in Montreal. Cramped, smelly, and some unbelievably hard climbing routes. Certainly not for everyone, but for just the right audience it's The Best.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic gym. My first experience at one of these old school gyms and I had a great time. Great routes, great people. My only gripe is no loose chalk being allowed, but I get it. Will definitely be returning next time I'm in Montreal.

Fantastic experience: Au delà d'une gym d'escalade du Mile-end, le Shakti c'est une bande de copains, une communauté, et une famille. Là-bas, on accepte tout le monde, les petits, les grands, les grimpeurs avec des ape-index de +10 et même nos amis à 4 pattes , les novices évoluent à côté des grimpeurs hardcore de 8c. Grimper au Shakti c'est l'assurance de progresser sur une grimpe old-school d'une grande diversité, de rencontrer une belle gang de passionné.e.s parmi le staff et les ouvreurs, et tout ça en contribuant à une petite entreprise familiale, porteur de sens et d'espoir.

Fantastic experience: The style of the routes is more similar to outdoor climbing, which makes for better training than other gyms do. Though I usually go alone, I always run into friends or friendly faces and we end up working together to solve problems. I've also met many of my outdoor climbing partners at Shakti. Here, the owners know you, and you know them. More than just a gym, it's a community. By far my favorite gym in Montreal...and beyond! :-)

Fantastic experience: Although the gym itself is not as modern as Cafe Bloc or Bloc Shop, it is still a great quality rock climbing gym and offers a variety of tracks for all levels. Also a lot cheaper for a single pass compared to gyms mentionned previously, almost half price.

Elle est assez petite et la propreté des murs est vraiment à revoir, et l’organisation des voies n’est vraiment pas claire. Le personnel est sympa et les prix sont semblables aux autres salles, mais pour un service plus restreint..

Il faut penser à lire le bloc avant pour savoir où sont les prises mais c'est une habitude qu'on prend vite (et qui fait travailler la lecture de voie). Je trouve que l'offre de grimpe qu'ils proposent est absolument unique à Montréal: ce n'est pas du bloc flashy en gros dyno et mouv de coordination. La grimpe au Shakti est beaucoup plus en technique, les mouv sont vraiment super beaux et personnellement ça me correspond mieux

It can be busy in the evenings but the times I've come in during the day are less so. A great life improvement having the gym in town. See you for a session soon

Fantastic experience: Friendly, welcoming, encouraging and historied. This gym hits in a special way because it was the first gym I ever climbed at. However, that doesn’t change the fact that they’re so kind and encouraging to new climbers. As my friend put it, “it’s a climbers gym.” There’s a lot to parse when looking at the walls, but once you settle in and figure out how routes are marked, it’s a good time. They don’t shy away from challenging routes, but have a good mix for beginners, too. I highly recommend visiting this gym at least once in your life!

Fantastic experience: Ça prend un certain moment pour s'adapter, ça c'est certain, mais honnêtement je trouve ça stimulant ! (On aime les puzzle ou on aime pas ça.) Selon moi ça pratique encore plus la lecture du bloc et ça rend l'expérience plus naturel. Le contact avec les autres est facile et l'atmosphère chaleureuse. J'ai l'impression que ce gym attire une clientèle qui priorise la discipline de ce sports aussi fun et rassembleur que complexe. Pour ma part c'est ce que je recherche, un gym rustique qui s'en tient au nécessaire ce qui fait en sorte que le focus reste sur l'essentiel !

Fantastic experience: Sick gym, very welcoming and good vibes. It's small and they do old school setting with harder grading than other gyms around here. Probably a better gym for real training. Great diversity of holds and setting, tons of interesting slab problems as well as big burly ones. Owner is super friendly and the clientele are on the same wavelength...people are more friendly here than other gyms, everyone is gonna help everyone send, as it should be! Also cheapest day pass for just as much climbing. Highly recommend

Fantastic experience: Makes Montreal feel like home for sure. Appreciate what y'all have created Shakti! In terms of climbing, the routes are interesting, and the grading is challenging relative to other gyms. Keeps you coming back for more lots of gym social events as well! Love this place.

Fantastic experience: Notre première expérience était dimanche passé et j'en veux plus !!!! On a eu l'impression d'avoir le gym pour nous et les 3-4 autres grimpeurs étaient tellement sympathiques. Tellement une bonne vibe. Le niveau est plus élevé que dans d'autres gyms plus "mainstream" de Montréal... Ou peut-être que c'est seulement le style des voies qui est très différents ! Il y a énormément de problèmes étant donnés que les murs sont REMPLIS de prises. Ça peut sembler intimidant au début, mais c'est vraiment la partie que j'ai préféré : ça fait travailler le cerveau autant que le corps ! Nous allons revenir sans aucun doute plus tôt que tard.

Fantastic experience: Having climbed/lived in 4 different countries, visited countless Boulder gyms and loads of outdoor trips, I can confidently say there is NO place like Shakti. Heaven on earth! They will make you feel like a million bucks even if you’re starting out or you’re a seasoned veteran. Leave your ego at the door, climbing at shakti is like climbing outdoors you will work hard but have fun doing it. I miss this gym everyday and am grateful for the life long friends I’ve made through the community here.
