Canada Games Aquatic Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: I would give five stars but the floors in the change rooms are usually covers in wet dirt
Negative experience: Pulled our child from swimming after a terrible experience with their teacher. This young woman should not be teaching children. Good job killing a young child's love for swimming.
Negative experience: They stopped putting the wristband on the guest, and now i have to struggle to put it on. It was a nice touch hope they bring it back.
Negative experience: The dirtiest pool I've ever been to, and the hot tub is a warm tub at best. Fun if you have kids I guess?
Positive experience: Great clean place to work out.
Positive experience: If you know, the schedule for public swimming, it's a nice complex.
Negative experience: I'd really like to be able to talk to somebody on the telephone there if they would answer because I'm not going to chance driving all the way from Merritt to find out they're actually closed and the Google schedule is wrong
Fantastic experience: My daughter was in synchronized swimming for years at TCC when she was little now I enjoy bringing my grandchildren here. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Fun leisure pool the deep end is great it has lap Swims
Fantastic experience: 1st time here. Whoaa... this centre really gets full, especially in the hot summer days and when there's a competition. It's really good to call in first as what they advised on the website. Nice hot tubs, but it doesn't get hot that much. Nice big dry and wet sauna. I like that it has separate showers. Receptions are patiently helpful . I like the ambiance and cleanliness. Keep it up and appreciate it
Fantastic experience: Best sports center
Positive experience: Great venue with advanced and new facilities, all well-maintained. The downside is the lack of a surfing pool, and there is only one water slide. The 200-meter indoor track is excellent, and the ventilation system works well, so it's not too hot in the summer. It would be even better if there were some grassy areas nearby for resting.
Positive experience: Great pool. Loved the diving boards and 5 m platform. Hot tub was PACKED the entire time. Never had a chance to sqeeze in there. The sauna was nice though. Lots of lockers out of service/broken. Still managed to find a functional one though, despite it being somewhat busy.
Fantastic experience: Alert life guards .. warm leisure pool ... Many change roomsl..Hours and open times are set up really nice. It has exercise equipment area ..table tennis .basketball / track/ and food to purchase.
Fantastic experience: Amazing steam room and sauna just saying
Fantastic experience: Great space, lovely variety of swimming fun, from a Waterslide to indoor water park, as well as a good sized hot tub.
Fantastic experience: Kids always have fun, hot tubs are great. Locker room and showers are clean
Fantastic experience: Went to watch grandson swimming lessons
Positive experience: I really enjoyed this place and it was the first time I had ever seen co-ed change rooms
Positive experience: Great facility. Lap lanes, kids pool, sauna, hottubs, steam room. The waterslide is not working (update! Waterslide has been fixed! ) the showers don't like heating up too quickly but I enjoying frequenting this pool for it's many amenities. Here's hoping they get the showers fixed! (Showers have been better recently! )
Fantastic experience: I think this just refers to the pool, which is designed for both lap training as well as leisure swimming. They have a kids pool with several features like a water park full of waist high water. Also, a deep ended pool designed for dives with varying heighted diving boards up to zi believe a 5 or 10 metre platform. Also a chicken out tube in case u get to the platform and it looks a touch more daunting when u peir over the edge, ( you know who u are lol.) Regardless slides fun and pops u out right in front of the steam room, then right next door the sauna. Fully trained lifeguards are always staffed. Good place for family fun. I'll note that it's attached to the tournament capital centre. Which has everything athletic like a fully equipped gym. All TRU Uni wolfpack sports games take place there (volleyball & basketball, cheerleading. Spin and exercise classes indoor and outdoor tracks football and soccer pitch even a place to practise hammer throw and shot put. Among other track and field training apparatus, it's a really cool sports plex. Even has a fully equipped gymnastics wing with bars, beams, and trampolines. Sorry I couldn't resist.
Positive experience: Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.
Fantastic experience: The upgrades to the pool and change rooms are amazing.
Negative experience: Worst place in town, worst staff I’ve ever met at a government facility they clearly all hate their job, hate their life’s, place is constantly closed always not enough staff place is a complete joke. If the pool is closed they will let you walk right by get changed and waste your morning just to figure out for yourself it’s closed then laugh when you mention something about it disgusting behaviour. Stay far away from this place so not support them do not buy a year pass.save your gas money don’t waste your time driving to this place .
Negative experience: I drove all the way from Chase for a swim to find out the pool is closed and the sauna is closed. I checked the website before I left to be SURE public swim would be open. Website said it would be. 1 star.
Fantastic experience: I really like this place. The coaches are nice and there are lifeguards to protect you.
Fantastic experience: Vary clean and family friendly environment
Fantastic experience: Love hot tub. Tho it was quite full of people. The grandkids enjoyed kids pool, and parents and family enjoyed the pool. They had change rooms with lockers for clothing. Famoly found it a little frustrating to get an account set up. To enter pool area
Fantastic experience: Lots of fitness amenities. Indoor and outdoor Track, field, pool, dry and steam sauna, weights, fitness room.
Negative experience: The heated pool is quite shallow and often too crowded. This wouldn't be an issue if the deep-end pool was open, but it almost never is. The diving boards, deep-end and waterslide are only open for a couple of hours every day (and, in the case of the waterslide, never open at all). The reason for this is because the lap lanes are extended to cover the entire deep-end. You're forced to swim in the heated pool, which is far too shallow to practise swimming and far too crowded to swim comfortably. Even worse, lifeguards do nothing about the rowdier swimmers who "accidentally" hit people with balls (that are both allowed and encouraged to use), splash people with water due to their sloppy swimming, and constantly force others to move out of the way lest they crash into them. I inquired as to why the deep-end is practically useless, and the response was that it's "always been like that" and to go to another swimming pool instead. Aside from the fact that every pool in Kamloops prioritises lane swimming (although admittedly less so than this one) and the fact that I used to be able to swim in the deep-end more often years prior, I have to wonder why they don't just remove the waterslide and the diving boards if they aren't going to be of any use. Then they could stop advertising them and be able to lower their expensive fees.
Negative experience: Someone didn't think through the schedule for cleaning the pool. Can't imagine the profit loss due to cleaning in the summer.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to stop in and take a dip. Really nice new facilities
Negative experience: The water sprayers/park are never open, nor are the diving boards or water slide ever open. The lifeguards are snobby. Why have all this stuff if no one can use it?
Nechtěli jsme tam půl hodiny řešit tyhle věci a pak si platit parkoviště. Takže jsme se otočili a odešli.
Fantastic experience: Just passing through. One of the best facilities I’ve ever been to. The city of Kamloops is lucky to be able to workout here.
Negative experience: Please have your website give accurate information. It said pool hours open at 6am. I arrived at 9:45 and was told not till 10am. I get INSIDE and there's a sign pool opens at 1pm.
Positive experience: It’s an amazing pool but they’re too poor to have it open all day. Such a shame money issues skill issue I guess. Massive L receptionists are very mean to me :( I do not like them they make me frown so much—-> :((((((( Ps food all over floor
Fantastic experience: Had an awesome time using the pool
Fantastic experience: Great family fun. My grandchildren love the pool. Worth every penny.
Negative experience: Drove an hour with a bunch of different families because Google said it was open and here it was closed for “staff training”. They needed to post that notice on the website.
Positive experience: The change rooms were very dirty
Fantastic experience: Great place very clean
Positive experience: Mixed reviews. Their scheduled swimming lessons and shutting down of the adjacent facilities is poorly planned. 12+ off the diving boards, again, poorly planned. My kids have been swimming since they have been 4 and are able to complete their scuba diving certs. The place is decent, clean, staff are decent. The hot tub looks like a pack of Fries with everyone CRammed into it. No 6' rule there lol, but is a nice pool. Could use a Tarzan rope! Sauna is awesome, very hot. But that scheduling!!!! Stop booking lessons for 4-6! That's pure insanity!
Fantastic experience: Nice place to go to take your toddler for a swim. Also, they have good instructors for their swimming lessons.
Fantastic experience: Awesome facility boasting an Olympic sized fool, full gym, and an indoor and outdoor track as well as a sports medicine clinic
Fantastic experience: my fave place to swim. staff are very friendly
Fantastic experience: always a great trip to TRU pool
Positive experience: What a great place. Attended BC provincial swim finals. Appreciated the croowd control so we could easily watch our participant.
Positive experience: Been going here since I was a kiddo. Love bringing my kid's here often and still seeing employees from back in the day. Lifeguards are vigilant, helpful and friendly. Also ... you can't beat the prices.
Fantastic experience: Fam had a blast♡
Positive experience: The renovations last year look really nice, however, with the change to the dressing room situation you have to wait longer at peak times for a changing spot, you'll have to wait. I understand the need to create changing spaces to be more inclusive in today's world, but I enjoyed being able to change much more quickly before. I guess there has to be sacrifice to make change.
Fantastic experience: This is a great pool for families! Great area for little ones, lazy river, nice large hot tub, splash pad, water slide and multiple diving boards.
Positive experience: Love to swim here though the steam room it's always not very steamy even when u reset the button
Fantastic experience: It's all worth it. Slowly getting back into shape and enjoying being able to relax and have fun at the pool, Sauna is amazing after a week on the feet. Thanks for the Sunday availability!
Fantastic experience:
Fantastic experience: I was not in a mood to go to a public swimming pool but my whole mood just changed when I went there. There's just so much energy and happiness over there. The entry fee is very affordable and the staffs were very attentive and friendly. Pool and other facilities were very clean and right temperature. Loved the slide which took me back to my childhood days. I wanted to check the depth of a part of the pool but was having second thought since I'm not a great swimmer and then a staff came over and told me that side of the pool is 3 times of my height and I should not get in if I'm not a strong swimmer- like I said they're very attentive. One thing which is not related to the pool but regarding the public is that this is one place where I actually felt "biased or racist" looks from some of the "50+ old Male white people". I never felt so much of "dislike" in another place in Kamloops or anywhere else. Ladies, Kids or Staffs never cared or looked but the look we got from some of the "elderly males" were not so pleasant. I could understand why there was no presence of black people and I could feel If brown like me could feel such unpleasantness then I could guess how much they would face or feel in such a situation. I'm not sure what exactly was their problem, whether it's the way I cut my beard or my color or what. Hope things will change more with time and with the generation. Appreciate the ladies and kids for not getting such attitude from their parents. Overall the pool, facilities and staffs were great, except some of the elderly visitors there.
Negative experience: Why did you delete my review? I said what I said and now it's word in the streets and it will get around fast.. have the day you deserve
Positive experience: My partner and I took our 3 kids to this pool, all under the age of 6. If you are taking a child age 6 or under, I highly recommend you read this and other reviews from parents. 1. Splash park: it's not huge or super elaborate but my kids enjoyed. While my husband was in the pool close by watching our 6 year old at the spray park, a lifeguard said he had to stand "within arms reach" of the her. He responded that he was at the bottom of the slide to catch our son and the lifeguard said we have to force the kids to stay together. This seemed odd as there's no risk of drowning at the spray park and our child was not running but it was strictly enforced. I've never encountered this rule at any other indoor water park. 2. Hot tub: kids can't wear lifejackets in the hot tub. Again, never experienced this rule elsewhere either but also strictly enforced. When politely asked for rationale, it was explained this prevents overheating. So be prepared to take the lifejacket on/off several times repeatedly. 3. No photos allowed: while taking a photo of my husband holding our 2 month old, I was told the phone had to be put away as their policy is no cameras allowed. I was initially surprised I couldn't take a photo of my own child, but once I thought about it, this rule is reasonable to keep everyone feeling safe and respected. So don't expect to capture any moments at the pool. 4. Midweek daytime does not open the large adult pool with the diving boards or the waterslide. My oldest was hoping to use them as we pulled her from school for a family day activity but was not allowed in that area. This probably is due to staffing but she was disappointed. 5. Lifejackets are provided which was convenient. 6. Change rooms: private change rooms in large quantity and nice for managing a family. Well maintained during our visit All in all, our kids were flexible and had some fun but as a parent I was absolutely exhausted trying to comply with all the rules. My takeaway is bring extra hands if you're outnumbered and try to remember it's not the staff's fault they have to enforce *a lot* of rules.
Negative experience: No information about up coming swim lessons on website or in person
Positive experience: Good day
Fantastic experience: Always enjoy going to the pool and hot tub
Fantastic experience: One of the best Centres in Western Canada. New showers and Changing rooms. New lighting. Brilliant staff. Covid rules apply.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful facility
Positive experience: It was a little confusing to get into but the swimming pool was awesome
Fantastic experience: Great pool for kids and family!
Fantastic experience: What a beautiful pool. The kids and I love this pool! Definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful pool with great amenities. Plenty of lifeguards. Bright and spacious with a decent, hot tub, sauna, and steamroom. Plenty of changerooms and washrooms
Fantastic experience: Amazing facility for Kamloops.
Fantastic experience: Amazing Aquatic facility. Potential for 8 lane 50 meter racing, dive platforms and a great area for kids and families. Too bad more cities didn't have comparable facilities.
Fantastic experience: Love the updates. Waiting for slide to open.
Negative experience: The swimming facility is amazing. However if you’re visiting with children under 7, be warned it’s extremely stressful. The lifeguards were stalking us like prey - it was very uncomfortable. Every 5 minutes we were being told what we could and could not do. They require you to be in arms reach of all children under 7 INCLUDING the splash pad which is a little ridiculous. My 3 year old wanted to play in the splash pad while my 6 year old wanted to swim and I was told I had to chose an activity and keep the children all in the same place which was literally impossible. We drove from sun peaks and 75 minutes of swim time was not enough. The time slots need to be 2 hours especially considering how difficult it was for me to even get a spot for 4 people. We weren’t able to get in the hot tub until 3 minutes before the end of our swim time.
Positive experience: Covid swimming lessons with a preschooler. They are doing a great job of allowing this to happen. Adult goes in the pool with the child.
Fantastic experience: Could be better
Fantastic experience: Took my daughter here for swimming lessons Charlotte is an incredible instructor and the new change rooms are very nice
Fantastic experience: Lots of room and many work out machine to get your work out in soft track to walk on nice looking forward to getting started on a program.
Positive experience: Top notch facilities. Don't understand why it's not open on holidays when families can participate together.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place!
Negative experience: Great facility for competitive teams, but very poor continuity center because it prioritizes its schedule and function around competitive teams. There is no set schedule, you have to call in each day to listen to a recorded message. Parking is nearly impossible to find and includes pay terminals that confuse people Gyms are often overloaded Indoor track is often used for competitive games and off limits Outdoor track is shut down for half a year due to snow, and the remaining time is subject to competitive sports using them.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful facility. I took my grand daughter to her swim class there.
Fantastic experience: Great
Positive experience: It's ok but probably a 50/50 gamble that the swimming lanes have lessons or an event going on. Used to be quiet but Kamloops grown too much.
Positive experience: Great place to let the kids go have fun and for the adults to relax in the hot tub
Positive experience: Fantastic facilities but cleanliness of changing rooms lets the place down. Particularly the family changing
Fantastic experience: Love that the kiddy pool is warm
Positive experience: Facilities are amazing only downside was cleanliness of changing area.
Fantastic experience: Always clean, staff is friendly, parking can be challenging when event's are happening or when it's really busy
Positive experience: I enjoyed my time there
Positive experience: This is a very nice facility. We have only used the running track and the pool. Both were great. Large change rooms with lots of coin lockers of various sizes. Parking is a bit limited for this size of facility.
Fantastic experience: The swimming facility was very nice. Lots of diving boards, a fun waterslide, big pool for line swimming and a nice family pool next to it as well as a hot tub and steam rooms. The best part was the low cost of admission for 4 adults and a 3 year old we payed 17$. We couldn't believe it. This was well worth the visit!
Negative experience: Went swimming with all 4 grandkids and their mom and my other daughter at 3:30 canada games pool. Again a big ordeal at the cashier with Vivian... she seems to serve us every time we take the kids swimming, which is about once every two months on a weekend. It is tough dealing with four little kids...That is why we need at least three adults to assist in the outing. And every time we make it to the pool, Vivian is there waiting to make the event excrutiatingly painful. She always makes us stand there at the desk for about 20 minutes arguing with us about our account and meanwhile the kids are making a scene and the adults are all getting angry and agrivated. The issue is always the funds the KIB give for recreation as they are status indigenous kids. And there is always a problem with Vivian Last time it was the cheque was too old and she refused to accept it. So mom had to go all the way back to the band office to have it cancelled and get a new one which took weeks. Then it was the funds mysteriously vanished from their records... And today it was the funds were used in monthly membership which is never the way we pay for family swims once every couple months. Punch cards are all we purchase for this since they are only attending once in every 2 months for a couple hours in the pool. Is it possible Vivian is prejudice? And abusing her cashier duties by haggling with our family every two months? Could someone look into this reacurring fiasco?
Positive experience: Clean changerooms, nice facilities
Positive experience: Great facilities with fun for the whole family. Only 4 stars as I feel the family change rooms could use a bit better maintenance of the floor washing.
Positive experience: Big space, lots of amenities, but a little confusing to navigate the first time. Olympic size pool with diving boards, wading pool, hot tubs, sauna, and steam room. Lockers cost a quarter.
Positive experience: Nice facility
Positive experience: Too many code browns :/ so unreliable
Positive experience: Hot tube are far far away from the change rooms
Fantastic experience: Awesome, love the steam room
Fantastic experience: First time going today! Definitely will be bringing my son back soon
Fantastic experience: Love taking the kids here! It's free!
Positive experience: Came for the 2019 provincial. Summer swim championship in August. Great facility. Field house is air conditioned. Pool area is very hot though especially up in the bleachers.
