Fantastic experience: Friendly and knowledgeable staff really make you feel welcome. They focus mostly on belay, auto belay and lead climbing problems, with a few bouldering walls around as well. Great assortment of interesting problems!

Fantastic experience: I recently visited Base 5, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish! The gym is incredibly spacious with tall ceilings that make for a thrilling climb. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, always ready to offer assistance and advice. One of the standout features for me was the availability of loaner equipment. It made the experience so much more convenient, especially for someone like me who doesn't have their own gear. Additionally, they offer both powder and liquid chalk for rent, catering to all preferences. Overall, Base 5 provides a fantastic environment for climbers of all levels. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced climber, you'll find everything you need here. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: There’s no other gym quite like Base5 Coquitlam. The vibe is unmatched. I started with no climbing friends; fast forward 2 years, and I have a second home. There is a perfect balance of routes and boulders, and the gym feels simultaneously spacious and cozy. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and everybody is clearly passionate about climbing.

Fantastic experience: Compared to the Hive Heights, would highly recommend. Staff were friendly (more so than hive that treat all climbers with suspicion). Similarly awesome lead route setting but without the suffocating crowds of Hive Heights. If comparable travel time between gyms and wanting to lead, pick climb base 5!

Positive experience: I've tried rock climbing briefly in the past. But, by chance I've really gotten into it here. They have a nice variety of routes. Some that you can climb solo without any belaying. And most are done with a partner. And they are varied enough to cater to technique vs strength. They also keep a clock at the top of one of the walls, which indicates 20 or 21 celcius. I don't know how cold it is down below. But, I don't like the cold and am almost always cold here. Which doesn't seem to be the case for others. And no hot drinks are sold here. So, please bring a hot drink if you're of mind to enjoy one.. I started bringing hot water and need it haha. I have no equipment and was getting into this gym. Which they knew upon at signup. And I was surprised that on my latest session they are now charging me $10 every drop in, for shoe and harness rental even though I have a membership, which is not cheap to begin with. I will look into the purchasing of a harness and shoes. Which is fine.

Fantastic experience: Favourite gym in the lower mainland! Variety of different styles of problems (a full height slab wall, chimneys, crack features) and the setting is great. Seven different autobelays if you’re there on your own it with a buddy who can’t belay. Always love coming here!

Fantastic experience: Nice atmosphere and staff, fun routes. I took a refresher lead course with Jing, after four years since my last one, and she was amazing -- demonstrated and explained everything better than I'd ever had it explained before. Now I feel safer than ever :)

Fantastic experience: Took the lead belay course with my kids and learned so much from them. Jing was an excellent instructor and she provided us with very valuable information and how to be safe at all times. Highly recommend the course.

Negative experience: I noticed (observed) a few people tripping over the bouldering brush, so I brought it up to the attention to several attendants. They grabbed it and put it right back to the floor causing tripping hazard. Idea: You could hang it on the side of the wall rather than putting it in the narrow passage. I’ll be calling the authorities next time I come by and still see this on the floor.

Fantastic experience: This place is awesome! My son (8) wanted to take a few of his friends here and so I went with them! It was our first time here and as well as the other kids. Recommend signing their waivers before hand to save time and standing around. And be ready for a parent to help the kids with clipping them on and off the ropes. (We just got the day pass and no assistance- so a parent need to do it for them if the kids are not able to) they recommended one parent for two kids but it was only me with 5 kids but it was manageable as they were easy kids! But this place was so knowledgeable and very friendly and one of the staff members even let us use their party room they had ( and yes they throw parties here which is awesome!) because I had food for the kids ! The kids being their first time here had the best time and built their confidence over time! They all loved it and highly recommend taking your kids and family here! Great place!

Positive experience: Friendly staff and atmosphere. Although it does get very crowded around 6 to 8, so if you can avoid that time period it is a very chill place to hang out and enjoy great work out.

Fantastic experience: Went with my friend for the first time and really enjoyed ourselves! As a beginner, I find it really easy to be hooked onto the 6 auto belay lanes that they have. It was about $25 per person for drop in for about 1 hour and 45 mins and find that it was more than enough time. First timers will get complimentary usage of harness and shoes. It was relatively empty on a Friday late afternoon but started getting busy from 6pm onwards. Will definitely be back!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member here for a few months now and love this gym. The hours are great, and if you hit it during non peak hours there is plenty of room for everyone. The staff are super friendly and the vibe at the gym is chill and friendly. The route setting is excellent and frequently changed up, providing new challenges and experiences. I spend 3-4 sessions a week there and always have a great time. Love it.

Positive experience: Great climbs and friendly staff. My only complaint is that when there is a kids birthday party going on, a lot of the kids are free to run around and play with the upstairs gym equipment without much/any supervision. Don't get me wrong — I love that the gym is so inclusive to people of all ages. It just feels a bit dangerous when I'm in the middle of a workout.

Fantastic experience: What amazing staff! Treat our kids so well!!

Positive experience: The staff are very friendly/helpful and the facility is clean. If you are not belay-trained/first timer, they have 7 auto-belayed walls you can use. I deducted 1 star because we often found ourselves waiting for an auto-belay wall to become available. For context, we went on a Saturday at 2pm, so you probably wouldn't have this problem during off-peak times.

Fantastic experience: Really nice centre, feels like the ones I used to climb back in the UK. Setting is great across the grades, with interesting routes that require a bit of thought. Routes seem to be reset pretty often too, which is really nice. Staff are lovely too, friendly and helpful. My only beef is that the ropes sometimes feel a bit haggard and oval/flat, which I think is from the high traffic and everyone seeming to favour Grigris. The gym gets pretty busy, and it's cosy, so there should maybe be a limit on the number of family members allowed to accompany a child. Having granny/grandad/uncle/god parents/doula/nextdoor neighbour is nice and all until they're all stood directly under your auto belay, congratulating little Brayden on his climb, and that reachy hold isn't as nice as you initially thought. I think 1 guardian per child is probably enough, or go use the gallery?

Fantastic experience: I love this gym a lot, though not as much as the north van base5. Great routes, lots of varied grades and interesting climbs to lead & top rope, but this gym is usually more busy than north van, and has less routes you can autobelay. Still always a great time though and I love switching it up with my membership at both.

Positive experience: Great spot if you're trying to step up from bouldering and do more elevated climbs. Have been going for a couple weeks and have really enjoyed it so far.

Fantastic experience: I visited this place today at 5:30ish pm with my husband cause I thought I had made a reservation at 5:45pm. But the time I booked was 4pm to 5:45pm and I didn't realized this thing earlier. One of women staffs who took us in kept saying 4pm to 5:45pm and I thought the system had some problem She was really really nice and I want to say appreciate it and sorry about my mistake to her All staffs (especially the woman who took care of us) are very very nice and the place is so nice for having fun time with people. I will visit it sooner or later

Fantastic experience: Just celebrated my son's birthday here and he can't stop talking about it. Before today, he had been very excited, though just a little nervous since it would be his first time climbing, but the staff were great at making sure that the kids felt safe. The party room is not too big and although there's an area where guests can hang out, it's also a place where some climbers do their warm up exercises, so I believe that area is not closed off exclusively for the guests. It doesn't get much traffic though, so still a great area if you do have a lot of guests staying for the duration of the party. Overall, the birthday kiddo had a great time and now both my kids can't wait to do some more climbing. Thank you, Climb Base 5!

Positive experience: This gym is OK. The route setting is good, however the gym is fairly small and when busy it can feel quite crowded.

Fantastic experience: We had our daughter's 9th birthday here and it was her first time climbing. The staff did an excellent job of demonstrating the safety measures and making the event fun! The kids felt safe and staff encouraged their bravery. The party room is well equipped with supplies as well as a fridge/freezer. Help was offered for set up & clean up. It was an overall great experience and I 100% recommend this place.

Negative experience: Was a nice gym, but they'll take your money. Me and a few others had our membership renewed after covid lockdowns with no notice (where every other gym would send out multiple notifications) for extended periods of time. When contacted, they reply once or a few times but then ghost you. None of their services were used during this time. No reimbursement, credit, or anything. Be careful when you sign up.

Fantastic experience: It has a changerooms with lockers now. It less crowded compared to CB5 North Vancouver.

Negative experience: Enforcing vac policy.. never going here again , fear of losing business so you enforce divisive and unnecessary gov policy that only segregates people ... I even saw you were enforcing mask policy when no vac enforcement was in effect. Way to live your life in fear! Clearly you learned nothing from nature and the mountains that you live upon and have forgotten freedom and inclusion. Shame on you!

Fantastic experience: Love this place, great variety of routes. They offer auto-belay, lead, top rope and bouldering. It's clean, well organised, COVID aware and the staff are absolutely amazing. Great pricing and availabilities. It's my to go gym.

Fantastic experience: This is a fantastic climbing gym with 7 autobelaying stations and about 50 other climbing paths. Well ventilated with very nice and friendly service place we loved it and my kids want to go back again.

Negative experience: Questionable hygiene and safety practices. The facility smelled strongly of feet (poor ventilation + lack of adequate sanitization of rental shoes) and the tablets at the registration desk were covered in grime and dirt. The holds were also greasy and caked in chalk. People don't adhere to safety rules and when we asked about when the last time the belays etc. had gone through a safety inspection, they had no clue. The staff were nice enough kids, but they seemed like apathetic college kids with no sense of ownership over the space. Too bad, because the routes look great and there is a variety of wall types there. Would be a great gym if it was clean and safe.

Fantastic experience: Nice clean gym. Love the routes! Great for all ages & stages! Challenging climbs and fun routes. I like the autobelays because you can just clip in and climb, don’t need a partner. I like the outdoor Boulder wall too. Friendly helpful staff.

Fantastic experience: I climb at B5 a lot and highly recommend it to anyone interested in climbing, either a newbie or experienced, B5 is an excellent place to hang out.

Fantastic experience: I took the basic climbing course at the Coquitlam location and from the moment I walked in the staff were attentive and helpful. I was brand new and they made me feel comfortable. The instructor was also understanding to me being afraid to climb the full height of the wall on my first attempts Most of all, the owner Daniel, has displayed a high level of care and integrity to me and I am very grateful and impressed. I would recommend anybody check out this facility!

Fantastic experience: We just held my daughters birthday there on July 25th. The staff at the front desk were excellent and so incredibly helpful!! Especially when I was trying to gather everyone together to make sure they had all of their waivers and gear. Both of the girls who helped with my party were absolutely AWESOME. Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend time with one of the girls as I was trying to stay out of the way, but I did get to speak with Aliyah and she was amazing. She was so good with the kids and did such a good job running the party. She knew her stuff. My daughter loved the whole experience and because of that experience we had we will be signing my daughter up for classes in Sept. Thank you to all the staff for making it a special party!!!
