Services, Machines and Guided Classes
Innisfil YMCA: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Very good arena and gym!
Negative experience: Had a decent weightlifting facility last year. This year it has just been not worth the money. The weightlifting room is relatively small and it's always packed, teenagers everywhere. Too many young obnoxious people that just kill the vibe of the gym, not to mention how long workouts take because all the machines are taken during the evenings and even weekends. Now it's just not worth working out at in my opinion. There are much better gyms with much more mature people
Negative experience: I had a very poor experience with the staff. I booked swim lessons and wanted to change the time. The lady at the front desk said go ahead to the new time and I will change it in the system. I was going to the new time slot for 3 weeks until someone said you’re not booked for this time. I checked again with front desk and found it was never changed in the system . They told me a supervisor would call me back which she did call but she called to only hear my story and said she would call me back but she never did call me back. I found out the supervisor had a big meeting with all the staff and fixed all the issues on her end but left me in the dark with my problem. I got the same reaction from all the staff I spoke to even the supervisor, as if I did something wrong not one person apologized until I was at the front desk in tears trying to find a solution.
Positive experience: Overpriced. The YMCA isn't what it used to be. The gym is dusty, small, smelly half the time, and this was a place for residents to pay much less than a normal gym pass. I'd rather pay more and get more proper amenities.
Fantastic experience: Had such a great time working out & swimming after a nice shower really helps the body relax
Fantastic experience: Assistants very helpful, machines in good condition and clean
Negative experience: I've brought my daughter for her floater/glider lesson, we got here 5 minutes early, they told us she has to wait at the end of the pool where it's marked floater, 5 minutes after the lesson started no one went to pick her up, left her there waiting and started the lesson. 15 minutes into the lesson the instructor hasn't asked them to do anything nor have they taught them anything. Update: October 22, 2024 waited at the marked place for floater/glider, but no one came to pick up my daughter, 5 minutes past the class start time I walked het over to the counter and an instructor met us for her lesson.
Fantastic experience: Staff are super friendly and they have a cool sprinkler system in the smaller pooler which seems to be a big hit with kids of all ages when it’s turned on. My children absolutely loved it and loved going to this location.
Positive experience: Was actually at the monstrous soccer field for our grandson's game. Lots happening.
Fantastic experience: Great facility to fine tune hockey mitts for the upcoming season
Fantastic experience: Great place for families,
Fantastic experience: Nice clean facilities
Negative experience: Swimming lessons are often a hit or miss. Some Instructors are least bothered or take any effort to reach out to all kids. They just focus on one or two enthusiastic ones in the batch and the rest of kids just roam around in the pool. It might be that it's either an unpaid job or service. I wish we had some other option in Innisfil. The whole sign up process looks shady. The young gentleman in the front told me 17.00 while explaining it. But just before signing up, he said it will be increased to 18.50 from next week. This happened two months back. Why do people sell something so sneaky?? He also said it requires 1 week for cancellation and when I walked in for cancellation, he throw me the next curve ball. He said it will be 14 days instead of 7 they told me at the time of sign up. These sneaky business tactics is not taking you anywhere.
Negative experience: No longer a member
Negative experience: We took my son swimming here for his first swimming lessons alone since he just turned 3. The experience was awful. Its was only 2 children and the life guard didn’t notice my son went under for a few seconds until my husband yelled out. He did go back in after a few minutes of encouragement. We went back for the next lesson and he screamed he didn’t want to go in so we told the front desk and we got a refund. I’m not paying for something that was an awful experience and he’s a kid who just loved the water. Now he’s traumatized just to take a bath. They definitely need more staff in the lessons who are paying attention. The front staff were always helpful to me so that’s really all I can say went well.
Fantastic experience: My son is playing soccer on ymca fields and I really like this place, beautiful amenities and property maintain very well. Lots of parking spots as well.
Fantastic experience: I am taking the aquafit class and the instructor today was entertaining and interesting
Fantastic experience: Brayden is an excellent staff member that was extremely kind to my kid. He is the reason that my kid wants to come back every week. Great young man!!
Negative experience: As a recent member of YMCA Innisfil, I was excited to utilize their facilities for fitness and relaxation. However, my experience has been marred by consistently poor hygiene standards. The change rooms, showers, and pool areas are not cleaned properly, which is unacceptable for a public facility, especially considering the importance of cleanliness for health and safety. I hope the management takes immediate action to address this issue and maintain a higher standard of cleanliness for the benefit of all members.
Fantastic experience: Great workouts!! Gotta get back!!
Negative experience: This rec center is clearly an integral part of the community, which is why I believe it is important to say, management needs to do better! As I only use the center for its gym and wet sauna these are my main focus of concern. The men's wet change room is in desperate need of a face lift. The sauna is often overcrowded and has clear evidence of mold in both the sauna and shower areas. A suggestion would be to remove the boiler in order to make room for a larger cedar sauna. As for the gym area, it has fallen victim to a big box lay out with out the size. In my opinion, there are too many cardio machines and not enough free weights. The most disappointing part is there are only two squat racks. This is the only large public gym in Alcona (to my knowledge). I hope YMCA sees there is a need to reinvest it its community. UPDATE: Today, there are 4 cardio machines and a weight machine out of order. The best innovation they have, the Mico fibre clothes to clean the machines instead of single uses paper is nowhere to be found. To top it off, the mens wet change room is closed for 3 days for maintenance, let's hope the change room sees and improvement after this maintenance.
Positive experience: Clean, well taken care of. we just had day passes so I am unsure if its the same every day. But when we were there the staff was friendly and everything worked as it should
Negative experience: Tried this place out with a 3-visit guest pass. Good facility, but within my three visits dealt with two rude staff members at the front desk. Left a negative impression, won't be getting a membership.
Fantastic experience: Nice place and very clean!
Positive experience: Great facility for lifting swimming running and skating. Unacceptable hours of operation.
Negative experience: If you need to speak to someone at the front desk please make sure it’s not Kewana! You would probably get better service from a door then talk to her. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this place especially the money they charge for memberships! It’s only convenient for the swim lessons and even those are not taught very well. Hopefully, future improvement is in the works!
Negative experience: If only the front desk staff would look up at you while not offering you any answers.
Fantastic experience: Where my kids are happy, I’m happy. They love YMCA Innisfil
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym, great personal trainers, classes are amazing and versatile. Worth the price!
Fantastic experience: Great community rec center
Negative experience: This place has bad customer service, doesn't do a good job of notifying people when the gymnasium is closed and Also they take up the whole gym sometimes with their programs with 4 kids instead of using one side.
Fantastic experience: Great spot to work out and swim with out distractions Steam room is on point
Fantastic experience: Clean facility and good ice condition Loved When we hit the ice
Positive experience: Great facility! Great rinks, particularly the red rink!! Snacks are overpriced but that's expected. The little hockey store there is super handy, has all the stuff you might forget (water bottle, hockey tape, skate sharpening etc) Love the sense of community - the shared fridges etc. I just wish the walking track over the gold rink was open to everyone not just members. We're not there enough to be "members" of the facility and benefit from everything. It would be a great benefit to just keep active. Also wish there was better seating outside along the hallway outside the basketball courts.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Great pool and Gymnasium.
Fantastic experience: It's great to have I go there and play Euchre and there's other games that you can participate in swimming and you name it they have all kinds of recreational activities and that's great it's beautiful that the residents of Innisfil I can participate and enjoy in these lovely activities.
Positive experience: Very useful for recreation and lush green play ground
Negative experience: My kids love to play basketball and go swimming at the YMCA. I would love to get a membership, however I find that they do not offer a lot of exercise programs, yoga programs, Pilates ect... I've been to other YMCA's where they offered so much more. The only reason why I rated it so low. The staff is very friendly and very informative which is a plus.
Fantastic experience: Great center. Came here for skating. Rink was great and staff was nice and friendly
Negative experience: Place is a wreck… used to be a well organized, friendly, fun and clean place… Best part of this place is the parking lot!
Negative experience: *SWIMMING LESSONS REVIEW* I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for swimming lessons. My review and experience is based on their Bobber/floater skill level which I registered my 3 year old for. To start - on our very first class we watched a little boy fall under the water and the swimming instructor did not notice him go under. Myself and the mother screamed for help until finally a life guard jumped in. The boy was under for about 4/5 seconds in total, however the instructor didn't notice and guard until we began screaming. The classes are 1 instructor (who will most likely be a teenager) to 6 CHILDREN! the children will range from 3-6 years of age which is totally inappropriate for that age gap and skill level. They do not ask you anything about your child and their skill level before starting. They just go straight in. The poor instructors who are young teenagers are expected to teach and tame 6 preschoolers on their own! It's totally unsafe and they are set up to fail. I was very uncomfortable for every lesson. The day I pulled my child out was mid class due to the fact that the swimming instructor left my child (was has ZERO capability to keep herself above water) to chase another little child who took off into the deeper area of the pool. She had to leave all the other 5 kids to go chase another. Which I get, but again, not safe and a very dangerous situation. They also don't have any extra life guards on the pool deck watching as the instructors are trying to teach. It's absolutely disastrous! These poor instructors are to teach, tame and make sure 6 little preschoolers are safe in a giant pool with no extra help or even a set if eyes to help. We canceled our membership and will never return. STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMENDED THE SWIMMING LESSONS FOR LITTLE KIDS.
Fantastic experience: State of the art facility !!
Fantastic experience: The facility is huge, clean and all equipment are great plus crow are very friendly. The membership fee is almost free.
Positive experience: Seems like a very clean and complete facility. Two ice surfaces, gym and pool. The one ice surface provides lots of seating on both sides of the surface.
Fantastic experience: I've been taking my kids here for well over 5 years for swimming lessons and the staff is great always friendly. I've tried some of the sports for the girls and it's been great for them and the gym has everything you need. I incourauge all to take there kids here. Lots of programs for them to be a part of.
Negative experience: This review is for mens + members. Avoid this location!! Dont be fooled by the new building, this is the worst changeroom ive ever been to. Where to start? No keycard access, no towels in the changeroom, no blowdryers, no cue tips, no coffee no tea no water dispenser no scale no TV no lounge area no shampoo no conditioner no jacuzzi no sauna no razors/shaving cream NO PRIVATE WORKOUT AREA.. steam room has been broken my entire stay in innisfil and staff keeps saying "monday it'll be fixed".. "wed it'll be fixed".. "sat it'll be fixed". I'm completely embarrassed for innisfil. This big beautiful new building and ive seen better facilities in the absolute ghetto. Avoid at all costs.
Fantastic experience: Much more family oriented than a regular gym. Get fit with the whole family!
Fantastic experience: Great modern facility. Used it with my family while visiting a relative in Innisfil. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly and helped us sign in as guests.
Fantastic experience: The weights/gym area is a bit small, but overall great location to get in a good workout or enjoy activities with your kids.
Fantastic experience: Yellow Rink: Designated more for practices as it has a lot less seating than the Red rink. Has sections of boards that are clear for those who play Sled Hockey. Has a track above that overlooks the rink that is accessible from the gym on the second floor. Red Rink: A lot more seats and more geared toward games. Originally was designed for a Junior A team, hence the amount of seating and what was to be concession stands behind the stands. Gym: On the smaller side, but has a nice selection of equipment. The track that circles above the Yellow rink is fairly large and is a nice change of pace from a treadmill. Plus it being cooler due to the rink makes running a lot more enjoyable. Pool: Large pools for full length swimming and another section more for leisure swimming. I personally have never attended anything in the pool area so I do not know much about it. Basketball Court(s): 2 courts, split with a large curtain. Pick-up is generally being run often. Best to contact prior to arriving to use it as it is sometimes used for other things; giving blood, daycare, etc. Soccer Field(s): Large outdoor soccer fields that are well maintained and have very bright lighting. Volleyball Court(s): A few volleyball courts that are outdoors at the back parking lot. The courts are sand with regulation nets. Farmers Market: Used to be held every Thursday at the Innisfil YMCA but has since moved North to Stroud Innisfil Community Centre Arena. Overall a nice and accessible hub for all sorts of various activities for sports and events throughout the year.
Fantastic experience: Very well maintained Rec center.
Fantastic experience: It's good here at YMCA. but I only come here for Pokemon Go. Sorry for taking the gyms over ;)
Fantastic experience: I've had great experiences at this facility. My son does swimming lessons and loves is instructor, I us the gym upstairs and always find it clean spaced out and while I work out my youngest goes to the stay n play were the adults there are so caring and trustworthy. I do recommend this gym
Negative experience: The public areas down the centre of the building was very pretty and clean, severe lack of seating available for such a large space. Mind you had some spectaculars not been using chairs as purse holders it ought been a bit better. Restrooms were ok, nothing special but nothing terrible. Parking lot was absolutely terrible, nothing changed other than every year it gets worse and worse, and I'm talking all the way going back to 2019. THE ABSOLUTE WORST WAS ELEVATOR BEING DISABLED DUE TO COVID!!! How they can justify closing off the only means to the second floor due to social distancing required because of Covid is a slap in the face to someone who CAN NOT use stairs due to a terrible leg injury. Sadly I have to say it's only been recently that I'm now a special needs person that I see how bad "we" get treated and overlooked. And I'm the lucky one because I'll heal, but what about all those others who arrive for a Saturday late afternoon game and can't get up high in the bleachers? I've never had such a poor experience when it cones to accessibility. And not a person in the building could help, terrible, terrible experience.
Negative experience: Haven't had a great experience with this facility. The customer service has been a sore spot at the front desk for quite some time. Every person you ask for more information has a different answer as if no one knows their own policy as if they haven't been trained at all. No communication in terms of changes in scheduling or hours of operation. My daughter has been in swimming lessons for 3 years there, they closed due to COVID and told us her registration would be held until the facility opened back up. They charged me throughout COVID even though they said they wouldn't because they weren't open, asked for my money back and they said that was the price you pay to hold your registration spot. I stopped fighting and when it came time for the facility to open again, another staff member said I wasn't registered because they no longer held spots?? We were placed on the waiting list again, I had to call to re register my daughter and I asked for a confirmation email to have written proof of my registration. They ended up sending mine and my daughters information to a TOTALLY DIFFERENT PERSON. Honestly, the most unprofessional business I have experienced no doubt. Also finally went back for swimming today as we were accepted into a Saturday morning class, the manager emailed me before March break and told me the lessons would start back up the week after March break. We get there for our first lesson in months and while we are in the changeroom a staff member comes and tells us the pool is closed for another 4 weeks... looking for other options because this place is THAT bad.
Positive experience: Great complex and clean. I am hoping they expand the workout area as it is abit small
Negative experience: Unbelievably rude and lacking extreme customer service skills. Never able to get through on the phone, was put on hold for over 30 minutes all bc the website doesn't have all required information.
Positive experience: Great facility. Staff are very helpful and friendly
Positive experience: Nice ymca
Fantastic experience: What a beautiful facility! Very clean, lots of covid protocols in place. Top notch place!
Fantastic experience: It was great after been absent for 2 years
Positive experience: I like the YMCA. However, the pickleballers need more courts for the Tuesday drop-in.
Fantastic experience: Just loved the atmosphere and the staff, greatly organized and friendly service
Fantastic experience: Amazing Staff. Good place for a family to spend some time.
Fantastic experience: Great place to play Football (soccer) fields are maintained and they are on grass. Nets are meshed and the area is pretty open and aesthetic.
Fantastic experience: This is Innisfil's Thursday Market Place. Everything her is locallyowed, homemade, homegrown, and proudly displayed. I can personally attest to the flavours of many amazing pies, empire biscuits, radish sprouts, spanakopita, Heretic Spirit's Vodka, creamy moisturizer and more. As soon as I walked in I purchased from the first booth and just kept on going! I couldn't believe the variety of goods here. I would encourage everyone to visit the Innisfil Market open Thursday 1-6, behind the YMCA.
Fantastic experience: As of this writing May/21 everything is closed. There is a vaccinationation clinic going on by appointment only. I don't know why the Y doesn't keep this up-to-date.
Negative experience: I put my membership on hold in may 2018. In january 2020 I got a random charge , then in October I started being charged again, with no warning. I contacted them in January and it took a month to get back to me. Kirsten only got back to me when I called muskoka ymca. I was told I would be refunded, but, they kept charging me. Now they want me to prove I was on hold, apparently they have nothing , even though it stopped in 2018. I was told at that time you could not renew online, I have to come in to restart my membership. Which I didn’t do. I am out $200. I am a senior. I am still being charged now. innisfil ymca has been enjoyable up to this point but, having to deal with the staff online specifically Cynthia Dayan, who is not answering. I now have to go to national ymca for help. If you have a similar story contact marketplace at CBC or me for info.
Fantastic experience: Had my first Phzier shot. Feeling hopefully
Positive experience: Hi love aqua fit class but hard to get in
Fantastic experience: Very clean facility. Well staffed. Great online programs. Well supervised and COVID protocols.
Positive experience: Nice complex for a small town
Positive experience: This would be a nice spot to have EV charging stations. Unfortunately there is none.
Positive experience: Ok runing track... Wier corners but one of the biggest indoor tracks around
Positive experience: The YMCA is a great asset to Innisfil, staff are friendly and helpful. I was there for the blood donor clinic, in and out in 40 minutes.
Positive experience: Great place friendly staff only thing missing should have a bathroom on the second floor at list one
Fantastic experience: Such a great complex. Much activities, many sports!
Negative experience: How does eveyone feel about there un trained daycare??? Wife cant work out for 15 min without a call
Positive experience: Solid gym floor, a little limited, but good work can get done. Exemplary indoor track above one of the ice rinks! Love it for some post-workout cardio!
Negative experience: Great place for the whole family
Positive experience: This is a good YMCA complex, it has skating, basketball, a gym, a pool, etc. It's a great place for the community to gather, for kids to come and have fun, etc. It's centrally located and overall other than the occasional over rowdy child, there's not too much wrong with this place. Has most ammeneties you'd expect from a YMCA.
Negative experience: The weight room is decent and has everything you need for a good workout, however the steam room and showers are NEVER disinfected (cleaned properly) and smell terrible. Many members have asked management to clean them properly but nothing gets done. Quite often the washroom supplies are empty as well. Also, this Y has the worst times ever. Closes way too early in the weekends. Can’t wait for Barrie to open their new facility at Yonge/Mapleview- once it’s built- this Y will be a ghost town.
Fantastic experience: Clean facilities, staff are great at answering questions and showing how to use the workout equipment. Beautiful building
Negative experience: Closed on sundays?! That's 50% of the weekend. Why wouldn't they be closed on wednesdays. 80% of people work Monday to Friday. Swimming lessons for kids. 10 spots for a town of 30,000 people. Make zero sense at all. Membership should be free for the level of unaccessibility for this facility.
Fantastic experience: Great place, clean, friendly.
Fantastic experience: Nice staff, clean and family friendly!!
Fantastic experience: Outstanding facility... great community hub for families
Fantastic experience: Lots of activities. Staff super nice.clean
Fantastic experience: I enjoy on the move at the YMCA They have added a couple more classes at 10:00 lots of choices
Positive experience: Nice small gym, had everything i needed at the time. I enjoyed the track in the skating arena.
Fantastic experience: Awesome place to go to the gym or play sports with friends nice place to hangout
Positive experience: Complex complete with full gym, pool, walking track and two ice rinks. Outside soccer fields and baseball diamonds with a nature trail.
Positive experience: Beautiful building. Lovely staff and amenities. I would have just love to seen it built in town instead of somewhere you absolutely have to drive to!
Positive experience: Great swim facilities lots of physically active programs for seniors.
Fantastic experience: Friendly helpful staff and a very clean facility.
Positive experience: The YMCA is really nice place for everyone. They have many activities for children and adults. There is swimming lessons that’s alright but not going to get much out of it since it is a larger group per instructor. The gym is okay too but definitely not like good life. Definitely recommend for convenience.
Fantastic experience: great atena and pool best ymca in canada
Fantastic experience: The best rec centre around.
Fantastic experience: Heavily used facilities for hockey, soccer, swimming, physical training and a weekly farmer's market every Thursday.
Positive experience: Excellent staff, all around good gym. Change rooms are always clean & the whole recreation centre is maintained with upkeep towards people using the facility.
