Our comment from FitFit Canada about North York YMCA:
The North York YMCA is a community-centered fitness facility located in Toronto, Canada, offering a range of modern amenities suitable for individuals and families alike. Visitors appreciate the spacious weight room equipped with various machines, and the inclusion of a training pool known for its warm water, making it ideal for children and those with disabilities. Additionally, many have noted the friendly and helpful staff, particularly highlighting the excellent customer service of individuals like Daniel McLarty.
Highlights include:
- Family-friendly environment with activities for all ages.
- Good variety of fitness classes and programs.
- An overall spacious feel to the gym, allowing for comfortable workouts.
- Supportive community vibe and favorable pricing.
However, some users have raised concerns regarding cleanliness, particularly in the locker rooms and showers, as well as issues with the management of pool schedules, which often lead to overcrowded conditions. Complaints have also been directed towards the inconsistent quality of staff interactions and equipment maintenance. Despite these setbacks, the YMCA aims to foster a welcoming atmosphere where members can grow and thrive.
North York YMCA: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Amazing spot for families
Negative experience: Pool size is the only positive thing about this location. The negatives: The pool is not very clean with bandaids swimming around very often. Showers are disgusting with people shaving (not just their faces) and spitting everywhere. Often there's no hot water, which paradoxically is somehow good as it deters people from grooming there. Someone unlocked my locker and stole my credit card. The whole facility is old and falling apart. You see ceiling leaks everywhere, with towels on the ground to prevent water spreading.
Negative experience: if you have a disability of any kind and /or have children that do. Do not visit this place. My brother was robbed at this location on Monday, November 4th, and i have been trying to file a complaint for the passed 4 days and the coward supervisors dont want to speak with me cause i am able bodied and can defend my brother. After he was robbed they did not help him, my brother knew how to contact my parents and wait outside for them. He is lucky. But somebody else would have not been afforded that luxury. This place is not a safe space at all and you all should stay away from it. The staff doesn't care about the disabled and they dont care about people regardless. A big shameful excuse of a place. You all should be very ashamed of yourselves. Be disgusted of yourself. For treating people so poorly cause they are different. I will continue to contact cooperate to advise of what happened to my brother and i wont stop. BE AWARE!
Negative experience: The gym closes at 10 PM, which is just uncompetitive to the multitude of gyms within a few KMs. It used to be a 24hr gym. The change rooms are dirty. The lockers and some machines are rusty. Some machines like the back extension/reverse hyper are jammed and many members aren't strong enough to adjust the machines through the jammed and rusted grooves. The one water fountain in the main gym doesn't have enough flow to fill bottles and it leads to lineups. The mgmt also has serious deficiencies in dealing with volunteers that run a lot of the classes and even some programs. As such, they lost the volunteer run karate program that was here for 20 years. A friend of mine wanted to give back and volunteer but was brushed off for over six months. Since the pandemic, the place went from a warm and somewhat tight community to what feels like a random fit4less. All but two of the amazing long term staff are gone. Shoutout to Scott and Daniel. The new desk staff from 2024 are way better than the revolving door of new hires form a few years ago. They smile, greet, and are helpful. So something has definitely improved. But there remains issues with the upkeep of the equipment. I hope the regional hq can see these testimonials and enact some changes. Perhaps there needs to be better processes to maintain the equipment and more garbage bins (members are lazy and litter). And there could be a proper intake and training pipeline for those who want to volunteer.
Negative experience: Genuinely a disappointing experience SOLEY due to the front desk behaviour. The women at the front showed nothing but disinterest in helping you with anything at all. Focused on making her protein drink, talking to other people around her, I was left there standing for a whole 10 minutes wanting to activate my pass. She ended up finally providing service but it was done extremely unprofessional, hitting the desk in annoyance when asking if I ever been here when I said I haven’t but mistaken myself. She also l accused my id of being fake… Honestly, this whole interaction left me badly ill from my whole experience here.
Negative experience: the worst service and management dirty un organized
Negative experience: Probably the dirtiest public facility in the GTA. Disgusting and dirty lockers, washrooms and gyms. Paying $120 per month for the plus membership and get towls with brown stains on it. Health Canada should be looking into this place. There has been many times where they had to close areas like the hot tub due to the presence of human phesis. They call it plus but there is nothing plus about it except the high price. They can't even provide proper, clean lockers. You can getva disease just having your clothes in them. This place is disgusting, keep away if you don't want to get sick. Canceling my plus membership right away, it's been going on for too long.
Negative experience: I used to appreciate the unique and welcoming atmosphere of the training pool at the North York YMCA. It was a great space for middle-aged and senior members, as well as individuals with disabilities, who enjoyed the warm water temperature and the convenient descending ladder for easy access. Unfortunately, in 2024, the pool has been rarely available to general members, as it seems to be frequently reserved for classes. Additionally, I had two disappointing experiences with the general pool, where I found the water to be cold and noticed some cleanliness issues, such as hair floating in the water, which raised concerns about hygiene. I got diarrhea after swimming in the general pool. The dry sauna was once a highlight, but lately, some members have not been observing proper etiquette. For instance, some sit or lie on the benches completely naked, or place their shoes on the lower bench while sitting on the upper level, which affects the overall experience.
Fantastic experience: I will start this review by saying I've read several of the previous reviews regarding the cleanliness of the facility. This is not a YMCA issue—this is a member issue! The YMCA would have to hire an entire army to ensure that members follow the policies to keep the place clean. I really don't understand people's expectations given the low membership fee. I joined in June and hired a personal trainer. My trainer is Katia, and she's simply amazing. It's clear that this is not just a job for her—she genuinely cares about your well-being and isn't just going through the motions. This is exactly why I chose the YMCA. I knew, given what they stand for, that I wouldn't get a trainer who's just after my money. I couldn't be happier that I followed my instincts. If you're looking for an amazing personal trainer, I highly recommend Katia!
Negative experience: I do not know why it says women on the women's change room? Ask them what their policy is about this. I am cancelling my membership. I do not feel comfortable here anymore. Please take away the sign that says Women. You should inform your members about this before they join!
Negative experience: I canceled my YMCA membership within a week due to the unprofessional behavior of swimming pool staff named Sam. His rudeness and lack of assistance, especially when I was unfamiliar with the pool schedule, made the experience disappointing and unacceptable. I recommend exploring other YMCA locations for a better experience. Thank you!
Negative experience: I'm not very satisfied with the North York YMCA location. I use the pool frequently and have noticed that the recreational lane is only available from 7:30 to 9:30 pm on weekdays due to swimming lessons. I'm unsure why both the main and training pools are used for these lessons when it seems like the training pool alone would suffice. This scheduling prevents members who have paid for their membership from fully enjoying the main pool. On weekends, swimming lessons run from 9 am to 1 pm, with the recreational lane accessible from 1 pm to 9:30 pm. I believe this arrangement should also apply on weekdays, as the current schedule, which leaves the pool crowded after 7:30 pm, is inconvenient. I hope the YMCA can adjust the schedule to allow for more accessible pool time for all members.
Negative experience: would give no star if i could. honestly a very terrible dirty disgusting place. the locker rooms get broken into very frequently, the pool schedule needs a review for itself because of how horrendous it is. they pick times to give swimming lessons in the middle of the day. the pool is packed like a sardine box. its closed for recreation from 4-7:30… the locker room is honestly so dirty. men walk in exposing their genitals without a care in the world. keep in mind little kids walk into the locker room all the time and they see these mens private parts. its in the word “private” keep it to yourself no one wants to see it. always hair everywhere. i walked in to change to headout to the swimming pool and i see a man shaving his pubic hair in public… this Y genuinely needs new management and new schedules because its unacceptable. paying 60$ a month to not even have a place in the pool to dip my finger in and the indecent exposure in tbe locker room. theres plenty of people dying for jobs they should hire someone to at least make sure the lockers/washrooms are safe.
Negative experience: Where do I begin? On August 5th, during the Civic Holiday, I visited the facility in the pouring rain hoping to swim. I checked the hours online, which indicated a closing time of 10 PM. However, upon arrival, I discovered it closed at 4 PM. It’s disappointing that the schedule wasn’t updated. Additionally, the gym layout is poorly organized. The machines are too close together and scattered inefficiently. I require a corner with a wall for certain exercises, but there’s no such space near the weight area. This forces me to carry heavy dumbbells into the cardio room, which should be equipped with weights to offer more privacy and space. Furthermore, the locker area, especially near the showers, is unpleasant. It smells strongly of urine, and there is hair everywhere. The sight of people shaving and their bodies exposed is also quite unhygienic. Lastly, the scheduling for swimming lessons is inconvenient. They run from 4 PM to 7:30 PM on weekdays, a time when many people have just finished work and would like to use the recreational lane. The lessons should be scheduled earlier or later. Additionally, the pool is often overcrowded due to lifeguard training on one lane, leaving the others cramped. There is another pool dedicated to training, and it would be better if that pool were used to allow more space in the one that people have paid for.
Negative experience: I've been a member here. The lifeguards are like robots in my 1 year span. They never have had said hi to me and just stand there and do nothing. They preach this fake we treat our members like family. Give your money to la fitness or GoodLife. This YMCA needs a major overhaul. Ask any member who uses the pool. They close the pool for lessons during busy hours 4-730 Makes no sense.
Negative experience: Broken Mens Sauna. Doesn't even work and they charge $60 a month . Water is being dumped by all members because it's broken. Old facility and everything is broken and repairs aren't being done. Many faucets in the men's washrooms are also broken. Drains are clogged. Lockers get broken into regularly.
Negative experience: Certainly do not recommend joining their personal training program. The PT costs just as much as other places but the quality is disappointing and disastrous. You will not get your money's worth. The trainers do your session like running a factory line. My trainer (young male Indian) just repeats "perfect" to whatever you did and does not have a set routine or program that you can take away. Communication with him was also impossible. I was really sick the day before the session and when I requested a rescheduling he said no as it would mess up his already aligned schedule. He also offered no availability in time as he did not want to make more than one trip to the centre. Also because my request wasn't made within 24 hours, he said I would have to either come in sick or miss the session that'll be charged. It was absurd how a PT trainer and an institution like YMCA will not accommodate and say you will lose a session for being sick cuz it wasn't notified in time. I only remember being frustrated and stressed throughout the experience.
Fantastic experience: Mahnaz their manager is the best, she personally always help me with everything, I been their vip member since 2010, and saw other managers too, i think she is the best choice of all the time
Negative experience: Swimming pool are mostly packed like sardines. Washrooms are dirty I saw feces on the toilet seat. Disorganized environment. The reason for me to cancel my membership
Positive experience: Very solid weight room. Three cage racks and two half racks plus half platforms. Hours are atrocious (closes at 10PM). Opens at 7AM on the weekends. As such, it doesn't serve the before work and older crowd that tend to use the gym early. Because it closes early, it doesn't serve the younger crowd well, either.
Positive experience: Please have longer hours most gym open unit around 12
Negative experience: Currently, the location has a serious cleanliness problem. I've seen some cockroaches in the locker area, and the covered parking lot is always dirty.
Negative experience: The quality of the facilities here has noticeably declined over the last two years, with the situation worsening when summer arrives. We've been dealing with a recurring issue of clogged drains in the shower rooms, and the toilets often remain blocked. Today, all the toilets were out of service, which caused quite a bit of chaos, and it seems no immediate action was taken to resolve it. These maintenance issues don't seem like they'd be costly or complicated to fix, yet there's a noticeable lack of action. The facility is also about to lose an excellent yoga instructor who has been volunteering for two years, and there doesn't seem to be any effort to retain her. The staff is great, but it appears that management may not be making the best decisions. Despite the economic downturn, we expect the level of service to remain consistent, not just the pricing.
Fantastic experience: The North York YMCA is a community-focused fitness center in Toronto. It offers modern facilities, including fitness equipment, group classes, and swimming pools, catering to individuals and families of all ages. The YMCA also promotes social responsibility through volunteering and community engagement opportunities.
Positive experience: Great experience and friendly staffs (except few). Sad that one or two staffs behave very badly. If I could remember their name then will definitely add it.
Negative experience: 2 major problems! No one EVER answers phones at reception, they are simply on mute and no one cares!!! Online course booking system is faulty and unreliable!!! Today I went through hell having to get there last minute because online system did not work, no one answered phones and I has sick having to comute 1 h to avoid problems later loosing the spot I need.
Negative experience: There’s no way to call. After trying the number given here and on the website, it just cycles through a recorded voice with no option given to speak to a human being.
Positive experience: I've been a member for 20 years. In general the equipment is good and the place is clean, though the changing rooms need better cleaning. The pool is great but the swim schedule is often a disaster, especially in the summer when summer school programs take over much of the pool, instead of using part of the pool or the training pool, which is perpetually out of order. Also out of order is the elevator that accessed the underground garage. Perpetually out of order for long periods - I feel sorry for the elderly and infirm who then have to take the stairs. Staff - varying amount of friendliness - most at the lower end of the scale. They used to be much friendlier before but it's declined over the years. Having said that, they do have their favorite customers and are friendlier to some members over others. Funny that, given we all pay membership fees.
Negative experience: The main swimming pool is overcrowded because the training pool is always broken and they run training classes in the main swimming pool! So, the lanes are always overcrowded. I have a question from management. When the training pool is broken, why do you run training classes in main pool and occupy the lanes which should be used by regular members? I have suggestion: When training pool is broken, stop training and try to fix it instead of occupying the lanes which should be used by regular members !
Negative experience: In gral inside installations are good, but the management really needs to do something with the underground parking, the spots are ridiculously tight, and it just generates risk on every single car that parks there. It is just the matter to remove some parking spots in each line and re-paint the lines. 1 week ago my car door got scratched for above reason, and today was almost impossible to get out of the spot due to the car that was parked besides me was too close and the one with the one at the back didn’t let me to have any room to move. I really hope the management see this and do something about it.
Negative experience: There is an old guy who identifies as a woman and uses the woman plus room it’s super creepy, anybody who supports this mental illness should get their wives and daughters to shower with him then they will know how messed up it is, and the manager of this facility supports this behaviour. Women have no respect at all here.
Fantastic experience: Great summer camps for little ones. Good choices and great instructors. Can't go wrong, highly recommend!
Negative experience: wanted to sign up for the classes but the lady on the phone treated me so badly after she found out i was a refugee. She asked a lot of personal questions about my funds. I asked about talking to the manager but she hung upon me. I called again and the manager took my phone and never called back. such a shameful and discriminatory behavior in contrast to what their slogan preaches.
Negative experience: I have been coming to this sports complex for 13 years Unfortunately Some of the clerks at the front door are rude, especially Natalya.
Fantastic experience: Very nice place, good for families and individuals, when you like to do some relaxing especially if you have plus membership. But The cost for plus membership is higher comparing to the other recreational activities such as La,fitness/Good life .
Fantastic experience: Great facility. Exemplary mission.
Fantastic experience: My kids love the swimming pool.
Positive experience: It's a good place to workout alone (I haven't tried group classes or the pool). Other members are mostly polite. The fitness equipment is generally clean and functional. The staff are prompt and helpful. The changing rooms are clean. The monthly fee is good value, but you get what you pay for: the building is pretty old and the services are basic.
Positive experience: They have many equipments and I like working out there. In the member plus section, the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are a plus and very relaxing. But the change rooms and the showers are not always clean. In the change rooms the carpet is really old and stained. In the showers, the is a lot of hair. Too many people just show up without booking the class online, so the classes are often too crowded and as a result the equipment gets limited. And nobody checks this. There should be a system for checking this upon entry to the class.
Fantastic experience: It’s a good space for family. The kids has a different bathroom, so they don’t see naked people.
Fantastic experience: Great equipment and overall very clean. All the staff is extremely pleasant especially sales manager Jay, he is always very helpful and welcoming.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to this gym for the past 10 years, and I have no complaints about the gym and staff. Yes sometimes the members are creepy with the way they stare or behave but I’m there to workout and mind my own business. The equipment is very nice, the facility is very clean and staff are also nice. For the past few years, I’ve had Jay (Sales manager) take care of any of my and my family’s concerns and he’s been absolutely amazing. He addresses literally any concern I have and wants the best for me and the members. He’s nice, outgoing and very energetic which is the type of energy that is needed at a gym. Also a good place to get your volunteer hours.
Positive experience: Decent gym for the price. I do wish they would open more of the doors at night as the walk to the sidewalk is very dark. I wish they maintained their pre-covid hours, too. I would strongly suggest finding a personal trainer from a more stringent provider, so far I have overheard two YMCA trainers that caused concern. One was giving antiquated advice, another actually suggested her client try Beyonce's cayenne pepper drink cleanse.
Negative experience: I took my 6 years old son there . First of all to clarify their swimming levels are not exactly what it says on their website . Secondly , I took my son and his level wasn’t the same as other kids in that group . Group was not even for level 2 mostly level 3 . Annoying part was the instructor whole time was laughing the way my son was trying to swim. I don’t know what sort of instructor ymca hires but they are not professional . People go there to learn how to swim so I don’t understand what is entertaining for the instructor to behave that way . I will never step into this place anymore .
Negative experience: I do not recommend the Lifeguarding courses at the North York YMCA.
Negative experience: in this place after corona the quality is very low and management is very very weak and need the change of manager with qualify manager who can run better for example she can not service Landry mashin and there is limitation for towel
Fantastic experience: The North York YMCA family is fantastic m, the team and their great heart and spirit, working with them you achieve what you want, they have made me feel like a family taking care of me throughout the process, very happy to be able to find this great family in Toronto.
Negative experience: Clean facilities, good amount of equipment, and most staff members friendly or at the very least professional. I would give this location a 5 star if not for the manager Jay, he’s abrasive and aggressive and any interaction I’ve had with him leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I know everyone has bad days and I’d understand if it was just 1 or 2 times but he has a consistently bad attitude and sets an absolutely horrible example for the rest of the staff. A truly pathetic excuse for a gym manager.
Fantastic experience: Great staff. Great gym. Great people. Reading these 1 star reviews is really funny.
Negative experience: Lady who said she was the manager with an accent said she was too busy to answer my questions and then hung up on me... turned me off from this location.
Negative experience: Staff here is not all that friendly. I can only say one staffer is usually polite in the mornings and seems legitimately caring for members at this location. Otherwise everyone else seems not to care. Lost my wallet and came the next day to obtain a new membership card. Was kinda surprised they charge for new card because any other gyms I been previously there was no fees for obtaining a new card. Front desk clerk quickly was giving me borderline attitude as soon as she looked my profile and told me that I owe the facility the monthly fee that was not automatically deducted a day ago. I did not had a clue as I never received notification of such in my 2+ years coming here, but yet the clerk still notify me that the Y would contact me afterwards for this. Paid on the spot so I could continue in obtaining a new card. Was sent to the lower level desk because printer didn’t work. Clerk at lower level was as equally non friendly. Notify me that had to see manager but that was not available at the moment and come back when he/she was or return the next day. In honesty, I am easy going but when I get annoyed like this frankly it sticks like a bad aftertaste in my mouth.
Negative experience: The WORST ymca for squash. Anyone can make any number of dummy bookings. The court is not used but shows booked all the time. The staff doesn’t want to address this. So done
Fantastic experience: Very good service
Fantastic experience: Love it no complaints at all
Fantastic experience: Friendly people and a nice place to work out and swim.
Negative experience: The ladies told us I’m manger in ymca, and the men’s already left here and the keys in my hand! She didn’t care about everything, I came here for pool, and just letting me the capacity is full! You can still here , and no care about I’m women stay alone here! For 15 minutes. And she so rude, I should to stop my file here, and go back to good life, because always good life good manger and open the pool.
Negative experience: The Iranian guys always shave their beards in the steam room in this YMCA, someone needs to tell them this is not Iran there are rules here… it’s quite disgusting honestly.
Negative experience: After the pandemic everything changed. Griup fitness. Yoga. Lane swim are almost gone. Waste of money
Positive experience: 很好,如能像以前一样开24小时就更好了。
Fantastic experience: They teach very good and the basketball lessons are great and swimming lessons are pretty hard but i can still do it
Fantastic experience: Went for a tour with my friends and it was really nice. We were so happy with Daniel and how he explained. If you are someone looking to join ask for Daniel for a quick tour.
Negative experience: Poor equipment maintenance! Even though they know, they don't fix or do anything.
Negative experience: My partner has been calling and emailing this location multiple times to get information about adult swimming lessons. He is not receiving any useful information and is often told that the info on the website is not accurate. Very disappointing as I had a positive view on the YMCA prior to this.
Fantastic experience: A great place to exercise at a reasonable price, especially for what you get (you can ask for discounts if you have a low income). It beats any other private gym with its super clean facilities, affordability, and broad range of activities. They have everything you need for having a good workout like free weights, such as barbells, dumbbells, and kettlebells, stair-climbers, rowers, cycles, elliptical, treadmills, cardio, adjustable benches, and lots of gym machines such as Lat pull-down, Cable bicep bar, Chest press, shoulder press, etc. Most with free classes and two-week trial sessions with a personal trainer (membership required) You are also welcome to the indoor squash, and indoor running track, a refreshing swim, or to melt away the pain and impurities in the sauna. If that's not enough, sit and have a light snack and quench your thirst at the automated vending machine. Great community vibe, fun classes, amazing staff and instructorsand, a great place to bring kids even on a cold winter morning. Best decision I've made this year!
Negative experience: They close at 10 pm, but members cannot get out from the main exit after 9 pm. ridiculous and inconvenient
Fantastic experience: It is a family friendly gym with lots of activities. People with all level of Fitness and different bodies. Not elitist. Great pools and lots of space and machines for fitness.
Negative experience: PLEASE ANSWER YOUR PHONES IM TRYING TO CALL. I always have to go in person and no extension WORKS!!!! It takes more than 10 minutes for an extension to even work And you guys still haven’t given my lifeguarding certification
Positive experience: Been going for 9 years. It's a great gym that has everything you need, and the hours are flexible. We especially like the heated training fitness pool. Parking situation is really bizarre, the underground parking option is great but the spaces are so tight. Calling for information is a nightmare though, you get stuck in this loop where no one picks up the phone.
Fantastic experience: Great center, community and staff. If you have any questions or feedback, I highly recommend dealing with Daniel McLarty, he is one of the best managers I came across in Canada, offering great customer service, combined with very pleasing and professional attitude… Any organization would be very lucky to have him!
Fantastic experience: I am so grateful to Daniel McLarty, the Director of Sales for all his help and assistance. I brought a new family who had just arrived from the Ukraine to register at the YMCA……Daniel was so warm and welcoming; he took the time to make the family feel so welcome and supported, he truly reflected a sense of community and belonging.
Negative experience: Really bad experience, my kids got fever and her mental status was very poor during summer camp, and the teacher even did not notice or inform me.
Fantastic experience: Read most of the 1 star reviews. Hilarious how bad a place can be perceived by a few which will skew the perception as a whole. I've recently gone on my fitness journey and I've not many complaints. The parking complaint should not be an issue. There's underground parking with a lot of spaces. Coming from the 401 is the best since on Bayview you can turn left and go straight to the parking. I only come here to go to the gym and table tennis. Gym equipment is aplenty and they load the wipes pretty frequently. Pretty much all the machines are functional (the bare minimum for a good gym lol) and there's enough redundancies so you should be able to work your targeted muscle groups even if it's crowded (although it's annoying af when you see lazy guys on their phones all the time with long af rest periods, but I expect that to be the norm of every gym lol)
Fantastic experience: Overall it's a great place
Fantastic experience: I enrolled my kid for summer day camp. I had a hard time navigating the website, looks so complicated and full of just extra info, but I had help from staff. After that I was able to properly enroll them and even apply for income support. The instructor my kid was assigned is great. The ymca sent links to meet them before camp starts but they weren't aware of it. No big deal. So far I have no complaints other than website. Website is veeeery confusing.
Negative experience: Got there to workout at 20:45. They close at 22:00. Front entrance was closed for no reason. Staff motioned to go around to another entrance that was closed as well. Facility is in need of upgrades and hasn't been renovated in a while. Definitely not worth your money
Negative experience: I had to withdraw my son from one of the four weeks that i enrolled my son for the summer day camp. I did it in error. I initially enrolled him for 4 weeks and wanted to remove 1. I had to PAY 30$ to do so. Once I saw that I wanted to remove him from all of it but that would have been another 90$ . This made me sick. I don't trust them now. What do I do? pay a total of 120$ to withdraw or send him? How terrible. I have to send him this time but never again.
Fantastic experience: best gym in the area for the price
Negative experience: I want to say the service is not the same with man’s plus. But we paid the same for plus, but is different, after COVID is open everything here, but not like the plus man’s.i don’t know management is thinking about this or no? But every day I’m come here , but the same before! I give you zero star for plus. Because everything’s is the same regular down!
Negative experience: Extremely rigid and not willing to receive feedback. Mentionned if we can use the empty gym as it is not scheduled for anything and was told No and there is nothing I can do about it. I then ask if there’s anything I can do to propose a new activity on the empty slot. Staff says no again and not even offered an alternative solution!! Way to go listening to your member’s feedback! I’m heading to LA Fitness man!
Negative experience: We are a family of 6 including 4 kids aged 4-12, had been members since 2009. Our kids programs such as swimming and karate were $5 registration fee per child on top of the family membership. We were shocked by the new fee structure as we tried to activate our membership last week since the pandemic. YMCA now has a new fee structure that charges separate kids programs fees on top of the family membership that has now increased swim lesson fees by 900% and here’s the kicker time slots have dropped from 45 minute sessions to 30 minute sessions. Who ever came up with these ridiculous fee schemes forgets that YMCA is supposedly a non profit organization. They sure don’t operate like one in regards to family membership fees. I won’t support this organization that doesn’t value loyalty.
Negative experience: Nothing inside, and the staffs here are rude and impolite.
Negative experience: It’s been almost two weeks that I joined YMCA and inside this centre the workers are not respectful there is a guy who is doing membership management he seems respectful and good a guy but there is another guy inside this building, and idk his name exactly but he works upstairs and he doesn’t respect people ( he literally told me that he doesn’t respect me and my friends and he is really racist as he also mentioned ( idk where do you come from ) and I don’t respect that and you and the was about to attack me and he was attacking me with his aggressive conversations, also he wanted to fight and attack me
Negative experience: Cancelled my Plus membership due to lack of service. SUPER DIRTY FACILITIES. HUMAN PHESIS IN JACUZZI.Dirty lockers. Health Canada should be really looking into this place.
Negative experience: Full of Karens period! Super disappointing experience, this gym offers literally nothing but charge you for 5 star service, this bald guy from the stuff is the worst person to face with ever super rude customer service!
Positive experience: Clean and functional. Helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Awesome. Great prices, programs, facilities. The building itself is not the newest, but it is kept in great condition. The staff are very helpful always, and the entire place feels very roomy and spacious. Future plans call for a total rebuild - would be interesting to see how that looks.
Positive experience: The only gym in Canada that requires you to wear mask while working out. the African American guy at the front desk talks with customers like he is the owner of the gym and he is very rude.
Fantastic experience: They have plenty of Badminton courts that you can book. Amazing place to play badminton with family and friends.
Negative experience: The lack of communication is disconcerting
Positive experience: To much older people inside, the people waist time and don't give normal training. To hot in said, very hard make traning with mask. No , no .
Negative experience: Their new system for booking is the worst. Its so hard to find a spot specially for elder people. They only want to charge people and give no service.
Negative experience: Very unfriendly staff specialy manager don't come here .don't make headaches for yourself
Positive experience: This YMCA has some of the better equipment for gym goers. While sharing top quality equipment with people unfamiliar with lifting can be annoying it’s better than doing the same with garbage stuff at GoodLife or PlanetFitness. Staff are generally nice and most negative reviews are from people too up their own holes to see their own faults. Now the parking situation is my main contention even when it was fully open it was still not enough. Bayview village has tons of parking but it is inconvenient so 4 not 5
Negative experience: Monthly membership is too expensive for what they offer. There are no group classes, the equipment is limited, the underground garage is closed, the outside parking is not too big, the pool is closed.
Negative experience: Why even have a phone if no one answers it after you call 20+ times?
Fantastic experience: Nice place
Negative experience: Their website shows day passes are available. Arrived to workout and told they are no longer selling day passes due to covid capacity limits. I can understand having such a policy, my 1 star rating is only for the incorrect communication on the YMCA website.
Fantastic experience: Hi and Good Day to everyone!!. I was a member for many years but I moved on after 20 years or more. I think highly of the staff, members, and the Board of Directors. I think it is a great place to exercise although I have been running for at least 7 years. I am in great shape now and, I miss the club but I moved on-I think it is a great club and wish them all the success in the world. JP Preston.
Fantastic experience: Way better than other gyms.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out and go swimming
