Negative experience: The customer service staff are generally nice, however the manager is always micromanaging them when she is around. The sauna is open for two weeks at a time before another issue arrises with it. Yet they endlessly blame the members for pouring water on the element or breaking the panel and they take minimal action to prevent these problems from occurring. A couple months ago something was put in place to protect the control panel but have not thought to put a metal protection over the coil to stop the water issue. The equipment inside is nice but a lot of the cable machines and attachments have seen better days. The pool area is great and the life guards are very kind. The management unfortunately knows that they have the monopoly on the centretown area for a fair priced gym with these amenities

Nous y sommes allés pour des cours de natation mais nous avons dû y retourner plusieurs fois, pour finalement se faire mépriser par l’agence administrative. Nous espérons nous faire rembourser au plus vite, d’autant que cet endroit a l’air célèbre pour l’inconfort que ressentent les clients autour de la piscine. Évitez cet endroit!

Fantastic experience: Besides their amazing pool and gym, customer service there is 10/10 and I tribute that to the leadership from Lourdes C., Membership Support Executive. One of my AirPods fell into the elliptical and got stuck inside the machine while I was working out. I alerted Lourdes of the incident and she acted promptly on steps we could take to retrieve the AirPod. She took my information, ensuring she would be in contact (which she was) as soon as she knew when the maintenance crew would be in for the elliptical. For the time being, she put an “out of order” sign on the elliptical so that nobody would use it and damage my AirPod. She notified me by email/phone call today that the maintenance staff fished out my AirPod and it was in perfect condition. I came in right away and was overjoyed and quite shocked that #1 the AirPod still works and #2 the level of customer service. Thank you so much Lourdes for taking charge of this situation, being so keen, thoughtful and in contact with me through all of this. Lourdes sets a very high standard for the membership staff at YMCA Taggart and she went above and beyond for me!

Negative experience: Unfortunately, I think they are in a pretty bad place financially right now and it shows. Peeling paint on the floors, sauna smelled a bit off, and they don’t have enough lifeguards to offer a full range of swim classes or even open the pool on Saturdays.

Negative experience: This place I was living 2 Monthis as Emergency Housing one bed 3 mtr square for 4 people and my Son he's 3 years old and he have skin problems, always Washrooms sharing and dirty,when I contact my assistant I tell this issue he doesn't care my kids,

Negative experience: Very important you need to clean the dry Sunna and the steam room two time a day and the shower place and all the machine gym everyday and you need teach people how to make the place a clean this is the future for people more healthy , ? During what has been observed repeatedly for many years and to this day regarding the disruption of the barbecue grill in an intentional or unintentional way, and also this place must be cleaned twice a day in order to preserve the health of the community, and I have been speaking since 2013 and to this day. The reason is that the employees do not care and they have no experience in Cleaning, and some of them are unable to think for the benefit of society, and administrative and moral corruption has become in the joints of the state and institutions. Health facilities must be cleaned and health facilities must be monitored to always be clean, and many people do not care about cleanliness, and this is a very big mistake. Everyone knows the administrative corruption that exists within the municipality and within the Ministry of Health. This has been considered very significant for many years. For this reason, the economic situation has deteriorated very much since 2013 and to this day.

Negative experience: Myself, and my wife that suffers from sicknesses were mistreated by the lady who does the applications for financial assistance for memberships, so much so my wife won't ever step foot in that location again. The blessing is we called GoodLife fitness and it turns out we got the same price with the added benifets of tanning and more importantly aqua massage and massage chairs that are all included and very beneficial for my wife's condition. I grew up in centertown and going to that YMCA was a big part of my life, never have I ever felt unwelcomed by the Taggart management in the 50 years of attending, I hope this review can bring a change to this location that will have a quiet future if this continues

Fantastic experience: Good location, very helpful reception, always impeccable service; good selection of workout machines in the gym. Nice swimming pool, very clean changing rooms accessible and suitable to people with disabilities and people with small kids. I am not using all the available facilities and activities, but there are plenty of them for all ages and all tastes.

Fantastic experience: I was a lifeguard at this facility in the late 60s and early 70s. It was a great job and I made many friends with the Jewish Family Association and other groups using the pool. Sorry to hear it is closing. Best wishes for a new location and continuing service.

Negative experience: Shame on YOU OTTAWA, the nation's capital with members being put in an old school/hospital gym layout? Spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to navigate the place, another 20 waiting for machines you only have singles of and another 20 minutes walking around looking for towel service that we pay for only to find out you don't provide that. I feel sorry for your permanent members, luckily for me I was just visiting. So sorry for your selfishness, best of luck.

Positive experience: Great place to learn swimming. I took my kids to swimming lessons all summer long. Be warned, spots are very hard to come by. The facilities are generally clean, but some things are slightly dated. But understandably as this is a non-profit organization. The staff is always pleasant and very helpful. I enjoy going here.

Negative experience: Zero stars shame on you YMCA, was excited too join, seeing on there website they have pool time looking for a place close to home, I've suffered an ACL injury over the summer and need surgery. So I'm like cool pool yime will help with recovery. So that beginning said I show up to try out the place, gym is so so old equipment half broken, was looking for word to do some LAPS in the but front desk said it's closed for the day there doing chemical cleaning so Im like no problem and was told to call back to book a time. Called back twice same thing pool is doing a cleaning. So finally I call back to day and now the pool is closed for a long time I'm like what. Why can't you be honest from the beginning. So all that said don't advertise you have a pool hours when it's closed and stop laying to guests, very perfeshnal and extremely discussing you have to be dishonest to get people to register SHAME ON YOU YMCA

Fantastic experience: It’s struggling finding staff and return to regular hours after the pandemic. However it’s a great gym to work out at now. It’s nice and quiet and almost no wait for the 4 squat racks. No loud music and plenty of cardio equipment. Pool is almost always open too and often it’s only me or 1 or 2 others.

Positive experience: Nice place for a workout. Friendly staff and just enough ppl. Now with no restrictions more classes are opening and also extending hours of operation. Great sauna.

Positive experience: Gym is fine with decent selection of equipment and machines. Never crazy busy, expect the usual after work rush. It's fairly clean, has a good sized locker room, and sauna which is nice.

Positive experience: Nice exercise and free weight area with lots of space. Decent variety of machines but limited selection of dumbbells. (Up to 65lbs.) Old and worn down basketball court upstairs

Fantastic experience: 20220104 : I have been a member of the Ottawa YMCA since the late 70s, first with the gym at Argyle, then Carlingwood, Merivale and now back to Argyle. Here are some reasons why I stay with the Y for 40+ yrs: 1. Reliability: There were times when some commercial gyms will offer unbelievable deals to attract new customers, but often ppl lose their money when the gyms go bankrupt. 2. Pricing: Given that the basic membership fee includes 2 free exercise programs (TRX and Zumba in my case), I am happy with what I am paying. 3. Friendliness: Over the years, I have enjoyed their exercise programs and have made friends with many of their staff, instructors and volunteers. 4. Community Services: I know part of my money is supporting the Y's community services that are part of their mandate as a non-profit organization. As of tomorrow, the Y gym at Argyle will be closed for 21 days as per Ontario's Covid-19 restrictions. My membership will be extended automatically. I am also glad to learn that the Y's essential in-person services such as Housing & Child Care will remain open, while their Employment & Newcomer programs will be available virtually online. There is something to be said about supporting a charitable organization during these difficult times. That's just my opinion.

Negative experience: This was a great facility before the pandemic. Since the ok has been given to open up pool gym and courses I feel they have failed the members whom pay full time money to go there and have had there memberships on hold for almost 16 months. They are at least 4 to 6 months behind other gyms that offer the same workouts. They seem to have in my opinion to have catered more to the residents and daycare in opening up. I know it's tough out their on people. They should also realize that it's the paying members that contribute to the y also and this money helps run the facility. I know the y is a charity organization but that being said to me it's a change in the wrong direction. Many of my fellow members have said to me why the y has not released any material in regards to ads in local papers to get members in. YOU NEED TO SHOW PEOPLE THAT THE Y IS A GREAT PLACE

Negative experience: Terrible reopening plan for health, fitness, and aquatics. Not only did they wait an obscenely long period of time to reopen (much later than other gyms), but when they finally got organized they opened for such limited hours that it's useless for someone that must still work a full day. As a working professional on the front lines that had to go into work for the entire pandemic, it's really disappointing to see how little the YMCA cares about the health and fitness of it's members. Their responses have been slow, and rarely informative. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Negative experience: Please save yourself the headache of paying for a membership at this place. Customer service is deplorable.You will deeply regret it in the end. You have been warned. Good luck!

Fantastic experience: Not only does the staff at the YMCA Taggart treat you like family, the childcare centre is phenomenal. We started going to the YMCA a year ago and they continue to exceed my expectations everyday. The coordinator is kind, she listens to concerns and she really cares about each individual child - the centre is amazing, I cannot say enough good things!!

Negative experience: How can you justify staying closed when all gyms are allowed to open now. You receive funding and grants from the provincial and federal government, the tax payers support this organization and you refuse to open. It's despicable. If you care about health and wellness, and are so concerned about covid, people need to be fit to combat at, the science is out on that.

Positive experience: Awesome facilities, in the heart of Downtown. Pool, athletics, classes, residence, and employment services. Check with office, regarding current availability.

Positive experience: Great place with activites for little one like their jungle gym, ping pong table, basket ball courts, swimming pools,etc. The gym to pump the iron is nice, i like it but 75$ per month is a bit much. If you are low income you can have a reduced price ! They have a cafeteria to eat but they are not open late

Very poor customer service, not friendly at all plus disgusting looks at the pool by the coaches, I regret having gone there (YMCA of Taggart), I prefer Carlingwood or Ruddy they are the best.
