West Coast Fitness Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: It's a very small gym and the changing rooms are not big enough for the amount of people going there. The sauna was packed too. It's supposed to fit 8 people but I counted 13, definitely not very relaxing, but worth it to run away from the rain a bit
Positive experience: I appreciated having the pool for some rehab exercises- but a bit small for laps. Glad they have a place for swimming lessons for the kids! Sauna was excellent- brand new and beautiful. Didn’t use the gym but it looked like it has some good machines and nice view of the harbour. Very reasonable prices.
Negative experience: TL;DR - Filthy changerooms, but it's unfortunately the best gym option the town has. The only good thing I can say about the gym/services is that the monthly membership is at a low cost, and they have a good amount of workout machines for a small town. The cons are many, firstly that the showers/batbroom/changeroom is all in one tiny 12'x20' room, with only 6 lockers - so there is often not even a locker to put your belongings in. They hardly even have enough hooks to put your towel to hang while you shower. I realize that right now is the March break, but considering that their main business is being a motel - I'm more than sure that they have the funds to upgrade the facility. This leads to my next point on cleanliness - sometimes I use the showers twice per day, once before work & once after work - and it's apparent that they don't clean the changerooms during the day - only once per day before they open. Even by lunchtime, the floors are absolutely filthy from foot traffic, to the point where I'm going to start bringing a mat in just to stand on - and bag it in a garbage bag before putting it into my bag - it's that gross. Keep in mind, I live in a tent at a campground, so my standards are not all that high - but it's clear from chatting with others (and seeing people standing ontop of the benches to change) that every person finds this disgusting. Please wipe your floors down even just once mid day - or just leave a push broom with a microfibre cover out, and I'm sure others would be happy to do it for free to save us the cringe. The last point is the sauna... Now, I didn't see the old sauna that took them months to redo recently - but I had heard from others while using the sauna that it had extensive water damage/rot. The new one they built unbelievably, does not have a drain, not even a little 3" trough to catch all the pooling sweat - so you have to splash in everybody's juices when you step in/out It's a shame that even something as simple as a little trough was not put in when they designed it, and that the wood siding reaches right down to the tile - instead of having a bottom 3" trim layer of tile to prevent water damage. Speaking of - you can see the damage already and the beginning of wood rot in some of the corners, and it's not even a year old... I appreciate there being another option rather than just the campground pay per min showers - but please - you can do better
Fantastic experience: Great place in Ukee for working out. We went for 10 days on a fishing vacation, my wife and I bought a monthly membership and worked out early am. For a small town gym it was surprisingly good. Downstairs feels super old school and is neat.
Positive experience: Gym management argued with me for 3 days running about the C2 rower needing new batteries. Despite the fact that the date needed to be re-inputed every restart, it was only when the computer displayed the message that the batteries were not present that they replaced them. 2 D cells would have solved it easily.
Positive experience: I love this place- older but kept in good shape. The showers are cleaner than the ones at Blackrock in the gym shower area. That’s gotta say something. Usually there is a sauna but it seems to be taking forever to reopen.
Positive experience: Pretty decent gym for being the only one in town. Older style weights for free weights and the lifting area. More modern machines upstairs. One massice issue is the severe lack of exercise mats. They have 1 black matt the rest are junk. They should have atleast 5 to 6 of these back matts. Esp considering what they charge.
Positive experience: One of the best gyms in a small town I’ve ever come across . Has everything you need & affordable.
Positive experience: A decent gym in the town, good views, not expensive but it could be cleaner down in the showers and sauna area!
Hello Thank you for the time you took to leave us this review. I appreciate your feed back and we have a cleaning schedule in place for the lower complex. Please don't hesitate to let front office staff know and they can send someone sooner to address the issues. Take care. Cassandra- Manager
Fantastic experience: Great location, well maintained. Good Covid protocols in place, and super friendly staff!
Positive experience: The only gym in Ucluelet but completely facilitated
Fantastic experience: Cool place, clean
Fantastic experience: Great place
Positive experience: Small with lots of equipment. Best gym in Ucluelet/Tofino area.
Fantastic experience: The one and only.....in town
Positive experience: It's a gym
Negative experience: Super upsetting. Says its open at 5am online. I drove 1/2 hour from Salmon Beach down the pothole filled logging road, to find out you need a card and no ones there . Doesn't open for non members until 9am. 1 hour of driving for nothing
Fantastic experience: Sehr freundlich, sehr hilfsbereit, guter Gerätepark! Es wird sehr auf Hygiene geachtet! Die Lage am Hafen ist klasse!
Fantastic experience: It's the best equipped gym in the Tofino-Ucluelet area. The gym is always clean, the staff are friendly and it's rarely busy.
Positive experience: It's a gym
Positive experience: It's got what you need for a training session while you're on vacation. Decent safety squat rack, just enough plates to squat about 500 lbs, and an assortment of dumbbells that needs an update. But for what it is, it'll suffice. The change rooms are however absolutely disgusting as previously mentioned in the comments. But that's not a thing really, as gross as it was.
Positive experience: Decent gym for Ukee. The basement weight room could use better ventilation and a decline bench tho
Negative experience: This Place needs a major update. The washrooms/change room are disgusting. They were super dirty and damp and they can't drain properly because of where the drainage hole is located in the floor space. It is shared with the Motel, maybe they can contribute to a make over. I didn't try the fitness centre. i would skip it, unless you need a warm shower because you are camping.
Fantastic experience: Clean, spacious, beautiful
