Positive experience: While the membership at Unionville Athletic Club is on the pricier side compared to other gyms in the area, the facilities and services offered justify the cost. With class access included, I think the monthly fee is over $100 per month. The gym has a swimming pool, a squash courts and a variety of fitness equipment, including treadmills and stair machines, providing ample options for a diverse workout routine. During my visits, particularly early mornings on weekends, the gym was not overly crowded. I had the opportunity to try out some of the classes offered at Unionville Athletic Club, and I must say that the yoga sessions, led by Katy C, were exceptional. Her emphasis on focusing on personal development and listening to your body made the sessions truly enriching and enjoyable.

Positive experience: This club advertises free drop in classes but when you come in they aren't free, there's supposedly an internal system error. Front desk agent was very nice, but I wouldn't go out of your way to drop in a class only to be turned away and then offered a membership expecting they're free.

Positive experience: Because I have only been back to UAC playing squash for only once, on last Sat., since I opted out because of the pandemic some 3 years ago. Positive experience: The gym is great with all the equipment you can hope for! Although the pool water is a little disgusting and the concept of registration for hotel guest is unpleasant and has you record all your information over again every time you go. They should find a way to save them once in their system.

Fantastic experience: My family has enjoyed this exclusive club in many ways. In particular, my teenage son has taken personal training from Kamal and has gained tremendous confidence in himself. He is getting in better shape and eating healthier. Kamal is an expert in nutrition, fitness and in the way he communicates to his clients. In fact, everyone who works at the club seems to be obsessed with service excellence. This is a high end club which really understands their clientele and their needs.

Positive experience: I've been a member for several years. Certainly they (like all similar facilities) have been challenged with Covid = reduced membership + increasing expenses. Alas, the whirlpool is still not open due to a huge cost to repair. However, in terms of value for the money, this is hard to beat. Club is always spotless thanks to Maria, who is always go, go, go. All equipment, floors, stairs, etc., always clean and spotless. It's rarely busy in the mornings. Great selection of equipment (a couple right now are not working and awaiting parts...not their "fault"). Things like "water not cold" in the change room water fountain...seriously? For those concerned, there is super cold in the weight room. Hey, it's been tough for these folks and they are trying their best. Give this facility a chance (just don't make it too busy).

Negative experience: I filled out the form on the website today after calling to get some information about Senior memberships or renewing. I received a phone call and I asked about what the price for a senior is the the sales rep was very abrupt and rude. I asked about when fitness classes in the gym and pool would resume and I was told “I don’t want to mislead anyone we don’t intend to get back into those”. So for $119 a month you can use their equipment and swim in the pool if it’s open.
I’m sorry to hear that you felt Joseph was rude. We believe our pricing is fair as the club went through a major renovation and much to offer including new equipment. We offer steam and saunas, a pool, state-of-the-art equipment along with fitness classes.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism , Quality Staff are very friendly, comprehensive equipment, super clean at all time, I see the staff tidy up the free weight area almost every hour. The change room and shower area are well renovated, although no barriers for privacy.

Fantastic experience: The only place in Markham I found with a workout floor, hot tub, pool, sauna, steam room, and showers. For the price, it can't be beat (I joined the gym pre-Covid when their membership prices were much lower than they are now). I've found that whenever I go, it's clean and not usually crowded.
Negative experience: The sales man Anderson Kevin is the lier.he will charge you the cancellation fee for over $500 Which is unbelievable!!! I already reported them for these business fraud!! Don’t go there unless you will stay in this club FOREVER. And the sales man’s attitude is very bad!!!

Fantastic experience: Squash courts and brand new gym equipment! Their COVID operating procedures are nothing less than exceptional. I have always felt really safe coming to workout here. The gym’s owner is an amazing human being as well. He is super friendly and a world class squash player. He can be seen introducing himself and mingling with the members.

Negative experience: Do not join the gym. Be aware of Kevin. I paid everything to them in advance, once they have received your money, they DO NOT care about you anymore. I have cancelled my membership and returned my parking pass to them, and sent them over 10 emails to request the refund for almost TWO months, , but they have never processed the refunds to me. It is only 15 dollars, they are eating your every penny during Covid 19.

At the time of writing this, I believe you have spoken to our admin department. We regret the spirit of your review during this trying time. Our staff are working hard for our members and cancelled members.
Negative experience: I’m writing this review in hopes of getting some kind of response from the club as communication from the club has been awful. Email responses are sparse and reaching them by phone is impossible. I cancelled my membership due to covid, which the club had a reported case of. Yet, I was still charged for now 2 months of membership dues despite completing all of the forms and a dispute to get a refund.

You should have received an auto reply as follows: Absolutely ALL requests will be addressed by our administrative team. Our administrative team can be reached at: [email protected] Any billing errors will be corrected as needed. Our team has also been “all hands on deck” upon reopening the club on August 5th. As you can imagine, we have had an incredible amount of emails and calls over the last several weeks due to COVID-19. Please allow up to 7-days for a response. (Usually 24-hours) We are working through each request on a first come first serve basis, and we will get to each one.

Negative experience: The management is so bad, I was unlucky to start at UAC right before COVID 19 closure and payed before I get to use the facility. I was paying for the trainer fee before it closed, however after the closure the gym continuously takes out money each month beyond what I’m supposed to be paying. I’ve reached out to their manager Kevin, but they said they won’t be refunding until the gym re-opens. Honestly I was okay with that until the gym finally opened up but no one answers the phone and email, I even went to the gym front desk area to address this issue for my refund, but NO STAFF working at all! What kind of management is that?! So Basically I’ve paid for all the services that I didn’t use for that past 6 months, and the gym is so poorly organized that they can’t control their billing process.
Hello Emma, As you can understand, we have recently opened after a lengthy 5-month closure due to COVID-19. We are now busy replying to emails and calls. Currently our department managers are working tirelessly to service our members. We have a receptionist and cleaners on duty during operating hours along with our department managers. Fantastic experience: This place is an absolute gem! All staff especially Jo, Irene and Jenny are true stars ... my nephews were visiting from London, England, they’re 12, 13yrs and play Squash at Tournament National level back home and were both etching to play while they were here in Markham but sadly we couldn’t find a court without membership!! These lovely people made it happen for them and offered a great opportunity to play and enjoy their facility complimentary!! It also gave my family a chance to visit the elite club and now we have decided to become members! Thank you all for your lovely gesture and we look forward to seeing you again soon

Fantastic experience: Clean facility although some of equipment feel rather old. Great staff, very professional and also friendly. They also have a Physio (and other services) available near the front desk. I like that they also offer squash courts and swimming pool with hot tub too!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of this club for over 12 years. It is a very good Athletic Club to join and the price of the monthly fee is a good value for money. I throughly enjoy to be a Club Member and it is one of the best of my daily activities to take exercise there. I am a senior and over 85 years of age and taking the exercise of swimming daily in the Club pool has making me feel younger and healthier. Patrick Wonng

Negative experience: Know a family of mine supported the place during shutdown by continuing to pay 50% membership fee even if place was not open. After two months of payment, it was noted that the payment increased. When follow up with the staff, it was indicated that an error was made during previous transaction leading to an additional discount of 15%. Staff (Kevin) has the balls to ask for the missing payment from previous months claiming that it was owed to them. I guess they forgot the fact that they haven’t been open during these entire time and membership payment was really a donation. Not the best place to deal with if you ask me. Shows no appreciation from their own customers on supporting them during these difficult times.
Hi Victor, you should only be billed for the months when the club was open. The "support your club" membership is optional. The support the club option is an agreement to pay 50% of your monthly fee and then receive 15% ongoing discount when the club re-opens. All members who sign up for this option agree to pay a monthly fee for each month in order to receive the 15% discount. (It's not quite a "donation" as you receive savings over the tenure of your membership, which will add up to more than your 50% payment during closure) In fairness to other members on the program, if you do not pay for one of the months, it forfeits the agreement and ongoing savings. Negative experience: Rude receptionist started interrogating me for not swiping my card. Felt like I was at a US border crossing. Was a member of this gym for over a year. Today was the last straw. Only went here because it was close to home. Learned my lesson, will be going back to a normal gym now. A lot more thefts happen here than in most gyms. My roommate put his phone down for one moment and it was gone when he turned around. Upon further investigation we discovered that this is a common problem and the cameras are just for show. Any facilities issue which should take a few days/weeks takes them months. The pool is always full of kids. If you want to do some laps, you literally have to book a lane days in advance and if you don't show up, they charge you. To be fair I should mention that they have wifi and it works great just one little quirk which is that it stops working once you enter the actual gym but as soon as you leave the gym, it'll come right back, solid setup. Bottom line is that it's not really a gym, more like a cute add-on for people staying at the hotel.
Hello Yousaf, the club has asked you on a number of visits to scan your membership card. This is a basic security measure. The receptionist is put in a tough position when members continue to not follow club policy. In terms of theft, we average about 10,000 visits per month and have a minimal amount of thefts per year. It is also important to note that only 8% of those monthly visits are hotel guests. As well, we maintain a healthy membership base but have a quarter of the volume of a typical chain gym or community center. We are a 30,000 square foot low volume private club, which appeals to some people. Regarding your friend's phone, we do not seem to have a report regarding this, but we can review security camera footage with any report. The cameras and video system do work throughout the building. Regarding the pool, we offer online lane booking which gives you your own personal lane, without the worry of waiting. You can book your lane through our app, by email or call into the front desk. We do not charge a no show fee, unless a member abuses the advanced reservation system, with consistent "no shows". This is common for racquet courts and any advance booking of space in a private club. It's clear by your review that you are not happy at the club, so we can arrange for your membership to stop. (unlike many chain gyms) There is a GoodLife close by, which you may find more suitable for your needs. There is also the Pan Am Recreation Center which has a pool.

Warm pool/hot tub overlooking the roof top terrace, take a class in a well equipped dance room, tons of treadmills and weight lifting machines. Towel service and comfortable change rooms, and a steam room for those achy cold grey days... Not to be missed are Sholina's yoga classes because she finds sore deep muscles and helps you gently stretch them.

Fantastic experience: Great gym! I've been a member for 9 months now, it is always incredibly clean. I avoid going from 5pm onwards, but in all the other hours I have been there, there is never an issue having access to a machine. Staff are polite and the additional facilities (Showers, steam room, sauna, towel service) are definitely a plus for me!

Positive experience: I've been a member of this gym on and off for about 3 years. I love the relative cleanliness of the gym and the facilities. I've been a member of many different gyms in my lifetime and would say that this is a great gym, probably the best in Markham that doesn't have a multi-hundred sign up fee. They provide towel service, basic shower supplies, have a good pool, a variety of gym equipment, a whirlpool, sauna, and steam room. They lose a star because in the summer or during holidays, hotel guests can make everything grungy, the spa facilities can be out of service, and there aren't many fitness classes by my standards. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Other people like the squash facilities but I've never tried them. The gym membership pays for itself in that the whirlpool = water massage, sauna & steam room = facial. I take a break from the gym during the summer months because that's when the facilities can get pretty gross due to the hotel guests' personal hygiene habits. The alternative is to get to the gym first thing in the morning when hotel guests are sleeping in.
Negative experience: Too pushy for signing up for a year membership, Chinese operated and very rude and inconsiderate to other ethnicity backgrounds... The towels are not fresh and are smelly...the gym apparatus are not state of the art... They break down... The facility is small and I feel claustrophobic
Hello, we do not have record of you visiting the club as a member or guest. As well, we do not approve of implications regarding race, in your review. We employee staff and have members from a wide variety of the ethnic backgrounds, who are all welcome at the club. We price ourselves on maintaining a healthy membership base without being overcrowded and do not engage in pressure sales tactics. We are a boutique private club, and we put member and guest experience first.
Negative experience: The worst customer service ever ! They charge you money without your permission and then don't reply to your e-mail and you never can reach them ! At the beginning they are so nice but after u become their clients they just ignore you and your problem !
We have just reopened from closure during the COVID-19 crisis. All requests will be responded to, but we are overwhelmed with a great deal of account changes. All accounts are handled on case-by-case basis. If a refund is in order, it will be arranged. We have asked for patience from our members during this unusual time. Any amounts that we’re billed are part of monthly payment arrangement as per the membership agreement. If you have an issue with a payment, this can be addressed as we work through our emails. Our team is working hard to get through these admin requests.

Negative experience: Old with old machines... Always a bad smell going on in the locker room... When you are excersing, they come and clean the floor with chemicals, smell is so bad that you have to leave...machines are falling apart... One side has newer machine but the other side with bigger space has machines from 70s 80s...pool is busy most of the times, its been rented out to a swimming school.... You have to reseve a lane if you want to use it, if you don't show up they will charge you $20.... If anything breaks, it will take weeks to be repaired.... They only have limited number of machine, don't even have machines for basic exercises.
Hi Peyman, we do not seem to have record of you being a member or guest of the club. Our gym features rubberized dumbbells, modern cardio equipment with media. Our equipment is repaired on a regular basis by our repair contractor. We offer full time cleaners on during hours of operation and after hours deep clean of the club. The new pool reservation system allows members to book a lane, so they know they have one available upon arrival. To prevent members from booking lanes in advance and not using them, there is a $20 "no show" fee, in fairness to other members.

Hi Barry, hotel guest visits average only about 29 per day, during our hours of 5:30am to 10:30pm (Roughly, 1 or 2 per hour on average). We have many pricing options, which are competitive in the local market. As well, we maintain a healthy membership base, and are not "oversold". Fantastic experience: Very cheap prices for the services they provide the pool is so big and the machines are amazing I lost 12 kg during 4 month of working out there and the management and staff are also very friendly and helpful .

Fantastic experience: Te squash courts are amazing and there is a big whirpool and a steam room and a sona and a big pool and the jym is awsome they have all the machines for body building and cardio i would strongly rexomend this place its absoloutly amazing !!!
