Fantastic experience: Everything is good

Positive experience: The staff here are extremely kind and helpful! There is not much parking so it can be difficult to find but the gym has everything you need to start out and then some great place to start if you are wanting to get into the gym.

Fantastic experience: Took my two granddaughters for a Play Pal swim and we had a great time! The pool is clean and the change rooms are clean. The lifeguard was awesome. We’ll definitely be going back. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: Clean efficient facility with lots of amenities.

Negative experience: Signed up for a course to upgrade my technical, safety and trade certificates. (Forklift, confined spaces...) But the course ended up only offering food safety courses and childish games for us to play. Waste of time and tax payers money.

Positive experience: The YMCA of Cape Breton is a great place to work on yourself, not matter where you are on your fitness journey. Plenty of the staff are helpful and easy to talk to, the membership is affordable, and the facilities are well maintained. Some of the machines could use some TLC and unfortunately, some of the other patrons don't clean up after themselves, leaving behind a mess for others to deal with. Overall, a great place to work on yourself!

Fantastic experience: One of the most amazing spots for family and friends to hangout, workout,play multiple games, swimming pool almost Olympic size and many recreational activities there. As an Indian immigrant I would say it's value for money for everyone. It connects you with physical fitness and makes you social. 65$ approx per month. But for a family it's cheaper than this.

Fantastic experience: It's a nice place for people of all genre. The staff is courteous and very supportive. A nice gym , Swimming pool, Basketball court, Yoga room, Dance classes from Zumba to classic Ballet. Over and above they support the community with Guidance for Resume building, job opportunities in the region, and for small and medium sized events. What more do we ask for :)

Fantastic experience: Adult basketball Tuesday and Thursday evenings. It's a great run. Folks play hard and play nice. This Y also has a squash court.

Negative experience: Overpriced. If you can't find prices online, you know it's going to be overpriced.

Fantastic experience: Once you have a membership, you get access to every resource they have there including classes and the swimming pool. Treadmills as well as a track around the gym itself. Some small spaces if you want to be on your own. Lots of equipment and the staff will gladly show you how to use anything you need. A great second family. I've been going for 3 months now and I've met some wonderful people.

Negative experience: Ymca has great friendly staff.. that’s why I joined and stayed here. But I have to change gyms because the gym is so packed and overcrowded that I am waiting in line for the smith machine, leg press and even the hip adductor machine. I think they should do a survey of the most used equipment and at least get two sets, having one smith machine and one leg press is not it. And get rid of the broken equipment to make space for like another leg press and smith machine, please and thank you. Lol Even when I don’t come at peak times I’m like bothered I have to wait long for equipment and my heart rate goes down and I’m just discouraged and lose my motivation.

Fantastic experience: Not a bad gym at all! It’s definitely huge- it’s worth the cost, which is less than the other gyms in town. The front staff are friendly, too. There’s so much space, if you want privacy to stretch or do your own thing. They do have some old school equipment, which I love. The dumbbells get pretty heavy. There are a few obnoxious types that go at peak times, but so long as you’ve got your headphones in, you’re golden. Love it!

Negative experience: Unexpectedly rude behaviour by the front desk assistant today! Shocked! Said Information is not showing on her system on our 3rd week (!) while coming from Swimming pool. Don’t understand who have given Authoriry to behave rudely.

Fantastic experience: I have recently been relocated to Sydney Cape Breton Island and was wondering how to keep busy & fit also the same time and found out without any introduction as I was walking thru Charlotte street and met the wonderful reception team Adrian & Nicole and guided me so well about all the facilities there and was amazed to hear they’re having so many group activities and Aquatics along with the state of the art Gymnasium which I haven’t seen in Ontario and finally I joined today and really felt like being home just in the gym I spent 4 hours without lunch and still had super energy by evening. Thanks to the team and the warmth in everyone there I met today only and am sure I am going to be a life member with YMCA of Cape Breton Island. Well done guys

Negative experience: Terrific powerlifting equipment if you’re allowed to use it. Most staff are excellent, some consistently interrupt lifting sessions and make it hard to train. Don’t feel comfortable pushing my limits when staff consistently are telling you not to or to do something in a way which could put your muscle health at risk. Also, the same staff member and only this staff member will tell patrons to leave before it is advertised to close. I would take my lifting elsewhere in Cape Breton if there were anywhere with this equipment.
