Brasa Bowen Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Negative experience: Attempted to learn about prices for this gym. First off they called me at 8 pm even thought I inquired the night before. So not sure why they couldn’t do it during regular business hours, regardless I was told that I don’t fit because me just enjoying and wanting to learn the art of jujutsu isn’t good enough as I don’t have “goals” so I shall take my money else. I think the main reason he told me no is because even though I told him I’m in good standing health after a back injury, now I understand him worrying about getting sued if I got hurt I told him that I was cleared by doctors to compete in powerlifting so if I can lift 500 lbs I should be able to roll around and twist my back. But as he stated it “don’t have goals”. Might be a good gym but I will never get the chance to know as I was denied entry by my lack of goals.

Negative experience: Started out fine. However, I have found over the months there were more and more kids and my kid was often not being guided properly in technique and was performing many of the moves incorrectly. It’s just hard for them to give the kids the attention they need. Additionally there is no proper seating for the parents. you end up standing the entire time. None of the seats have backs which can be painful after a long day at work on your feet. When I brought this to the owners attention she just shrugged at me and never even responded! It was a very odd interaction. Paid for the entire yr and haven’t been back for a couple months. Unlikely we will return for the remaining yr. My kid does not enjoy it. Was hoping it would teach discipline but there are a few kids in the class that are complete distractions and terrors and nothing is done about them.

Negative experience: For anyone curious about pricing. They have a few pricing options depending on how much you cash you give upfront, zero or $400. From there the pricing ranges from $250-290 a month. Edit in response to owner reply: Interesting. Well when I was there I was presented with only 2 pricing options and no specials. The pricing I mentioned above is accurate to what you provided me. Are you saying that you present different options to different people based on your initial judgement of them? Good to know. Please go ahead and break down the 10 pricing options and specials that you offer here. This is your opportunity to clarify. Also could you please clarify why you are using your staff to family to boost your reviews? Two reviews from Ryan Bowen himself on the London club. Plus his family. Also Sean and other staff members. Kind of a scumbag move since new members wouldn't know those are stuff and family reviews that you used to get your rating up. My recommendation to potential students. Go to another club, youll be better off.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely awesome academy , since joining everything in my life has improved immeasurably from my mental state to my physical health, as someone who has Tourette’s syndrome I have to say I have never felt more accepted and comfortable in an athletic setting before, the Coaches and members are some of the best kind of people extremely positive and motivating as well as patient and understanding and they will answer any questions you may have, I am so glad I Made the decision to join this club and am Super thankful to everyone involved for the experiences I have already hd in the short time I have been attending so far, I recommend Brasa Bowen to anyone who I talk to about self improvement or motivation, Thank you Brasa Bowen BJJ for the overwhelmingly positive impact that you all have had in my life so far and I look forward to the years to come

Fantastic experience: We have never done or looked into Jiu Jitsu or kickboxing before. When we wanted to look into it for our son, they communicated quickly, effectively and booked us in for a tour and trial class for our 4 year old. He loved it and we signed him up right after. He can't stop talking about how much fun he has with the coaches. Best program even for a 4 year old who's not in school yet.

Negative experience: Less than impressed with whoever contacted me about this establishment I was interested in until I was very discouraged over the phone because of what my own personal reasons for looking into what this company offers wasnt a good enough reason for who I spoke to and made it sound like they are only interested in serious people who see it as more than a hobby.

Fantastic experience: There arent enough words to describe how amazing this academy is and the positive impact its had on my life ever since i joined. When you join Brasa you arent just signing up to learn Jiu Jitsu/MMA , you are becoming a member of the best family and environment you could ask for. The head instructor Ryan Bowen goes above and beyond for his students and makes sure we're on top of out game.

Fantastic experience: This is the most positive, welcoming martial arts studio I have ever attended. The instructors are highly experienced, patient and light-hearted. People from all ages and backgrounds come together to learn. If everyone supported one another like they do at Bowen BJJ and Kickboxing the world would be a kinder, more mindful and more peaceful place. Highly recommend their kids BJJ and MMA classes; Ryan and his team have really helped boost my Child’s confidence and abilities. Kickboxing is always a challenge (the good kind!) and you’ll walk away with a feeling of pride after every class.

Fantastic experience: An absolutely great learning environment. The space itself is clean and bright with lots of available mat space. A great, active and well-attended kids program with knowledgeable, patient and involved instructors. Great adult BJJ program - large classes are the norm with lots of experience (purple, brown, and black belts) on the mat All in all, a great place to train!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic, friendly and Professional kickboxing academy. The staff and coaches are incredibly knowledgeable a d know how to help me achieve my best. My son attends the kids Jiu Jitsu classes and loves every minute of it, sensei Ryan is encouraging and supportive.

Negative experience: Sales person absolutely refuses to give us an idea of a schedule or price for our kids. I've attempted to contact this organization on 2 separate occasions and have received the same run around. Before the owner claims this is a "fake review". I will gladly update this upon receiving an expected pricepoint.

Fantastic experience: I looked at many different kickboxing programs in my area wanting to find a place with a professional atmosphere that would push me to do my best and after my first class at Brasa Bowen Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I knew that this place could offer me what I wanted. The coaching staff is very knowledgeable and takes time to ensure that everyone is following and doing things properly. The people and staff are welcoming, and I immediately felt like a community member. Thanks to this place kickboxing has quickly become one of my favourite ways to exercise and I look forward to showing up to Brasa Bowen Brazilian Jiu Jitsu everyday.

Fantastic experience: I train out of a gym in London. In the summer of 19', I had the opportunity to visit this gym and engage in the Saturday open mat session. The gym is clean, the atmosphere is positive and the instructor knows what he is talking about. Met some cool people that day - all in all, great experience.

Fantastic experience: A few days ago, my daughter told me that she wants to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She and my son have been taking classes Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays since January. “Awesome” I said “why?” -“Because it’s my favourite” “Oh, any other reason?” I ask as I put the fish back in its bowl. I was cleaning their tanks when the idea came to her. -“Because coach helps lots of kids. I want to do that when I grow up.” …mind blown. That’s been happening a lot since January. When I went in to speak to Ryan and Chrissy Bowen about signing my kids up for classes I had no idea how amazing these people are. Everyone who works with the kids is awesome but Ryan Bowen is special. The genuine joy he expresses when the kids focus and succeed is inspiring. Everything about the classes is positive. Each child is encouraged to try and their progress is met with enthusiasm that is absolutely contagious. In the past 4 months I’ve watched as kids who were apprehensive about stepping out on the mats, grow and reflect the care and discipline found out there. The older students emulate these values when working with the younger students and I’m looking forward to seeing my kids take on this role as they continue. I think, to sum it up accurately, walking through the doors at Bowen Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing Academy is one of the best things I’ve done for my family. If you’re looking for something inclusive and positive and disciplined and fun for your kid(s), why not give them a call?

Fantastic experience: Bowen bjj is a great school! I have done martial arts my whole life all over and I truly feel like part of the family when I go to class. All the coaches and staff are super friendly and positive. They also have an exciting kickboxing program. In the time I have been attending the Brasa academy I have seen all types of people transformed. I’m so happy Bowen bjj came to St. Thomas. I believe it’s a great place for building up yourself as well as our community.

Fantastic experience: This place is the corner stone in the foundation that holds my son Nathan solid in his teen years. He has been with Brasa Bowen for quite a few years now. I got him started in it because he was a shy, only child. With myself being from a family with 3 older brothers I know there are times when you have to look out for yourself...mentally or sometimes physically! First year was uncertain, he was the type of kid that when he got hurt he was done, not in this case! He went to tournaments where he ended up hyperventilating and crying. But because of his coaches, he never quit! They were right there for him(and Always have been!) cheering, mentoring, and wiping tears! Now we have a 14 year old that is confident, not afraid to try new things and stands up for himself. Everyone there is awesome! Do your kid a favor and try it out, you won't regret it!

Fantastic experience: I came here from another gym to train some jiu jitsu. I have never felt more welcomed. Everyone was so nice, and knowledgeable. The instructor Ryan Bowan (bjj black belt) ran a fantastic class! I learned so much, and I will definitely bring my learning back to my gym to share. Ryan ran a disciplined but yet enjoyable and fun class. Thanks for everything, and I will definitely be returning. This club is exactly what martial arts should be, and if I could give it more than 5 stars, I would!!!
