Negative experience: I used to love going to this place. But recently it has been over run with children. 2-4 kids lingering around each machine. Even the functional side, a haven for working people who just want to get a workout in (which is advertised as 19+) has been shut for classes of middle school aged children at 7pm.
Hi Jake, We completely understand your frustrations and hope we can address them. The functional side gets closed off to members for paid programs or space rental. We have a schedule posted at the front desk as well as at the entrance to the functional side itself, so that members can be aware of when these closures occur. The closure you’ve mentioned is for dryland training for some of Squamish’s youth hockey teams. As in previous years, this is from October - February. This year, we’ve limited the space rental to Wednesdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm. While we understand your frustration regarding the closure, we’re happy to be able to help support young athletes by providing them a space to do this training. With teenagers, many of them are still learning how to behave and navigate public places appropriately. While we know it can be irritating, the gym is a good place for them to learn, and many of them now display great gym etiquette. We know that some of them need more reminders than others about things like crowding equipment or appropriate gym attire, and we are working to address that. We thank you for your understanding and continuous support.
Fantastic experience: Super clean, has every piece of equipment needed. Super spacious, not crowded. Only gym I could find in the area with a week pass, which is super clutch for staying in shape during climbing or biking trips into Squamish!

Negative experience: Not happy with their customer service, and their super high registration fee is crazy, and then a cancellation fee as well, every other gym will pause a membership but they charge you instead
Negative experience: Terrible customer service. They sold multiple passes prior to Covid then would only honour them in a very short window when the gyms opened up again. Follow up: Please don’t interpret concerns as an attack. In fact, I found your gym staff excellent people. This is not an attack but I am concerned as I spent hundreds of dollars for nothing. Unfortunately your comment “failed to reach out” as I was accused is not accurate. I did reach out timely. I went in person to discuss. That was not logged nor did you mention it in your post. I was also told your management would likely be able to help due to the circumstances. That didn’t happen. At no time did Mountain Fitness initiate nor did they reach out in any way regarding the matter. I finally had to reach out again after my visit. Using technology this time as a face to face was not an option made available to me. Furthermore,I have not asked for indefinite extensions. I paid full price in good faith. Not once have I asked for a hand out. Only to receive the services I paid for in full. I did not ask for special favours nor do I. I didn’t even ask for indefinite extensions as implied by your post. Please don’t portray paying customers as being difficult. The matter is closed. If you wish to discuss it, please reach out in private. I tried but I only received a corporate response. I attempted to discuss and come to an amicable solution and was shut down. I understand your mind is made but please don’t spin it. Be well as I genuinely wish you well. Hi, Following up with your account, looks like you made your purchase in 2019. Your inquiry about using your expired passes were brought to our attention in December of 2022. We did extent your expiry dates for the times that we were closed which was 4 months. Regardless of the extension length you failed to reach out in a reasonable time manner. Providing an extension is fair, however expecting an indefinite extension is unfair to the business.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Squamish!
Positive experience: Nice gym but not enough free weight benches. Always busy and pretty crowded. Fairly expensive. Some staff are very friendly.
Positive experience: Edit: Added additional star since management sent me an email and looked into the situation. Pros: Good large gym, lots of equipment, and group classes. Competitive pricing with other gyms Cons: The hold policy (due to injury/life events ect.) are not competitive, nor flexible at all for any extensions or credits. The hold is only valid on 6 and 12 month contracts - nothing else. Not on punch pass or month to month or annual. Most businesses nowadays have some sort of arrangements, so not competitive in that aspect - even if it’s their policy. Lost 8/10 passes due to sprained ankle - I realize that’s on me, but still affects my experience. **Correction that I bought the pass online (not in personal like originally thought) and it does say this on their website now which is good**
Hi Polina, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate the feedback, and will ensure our staff are more on top of letting people know about the expiry date on 10-visit passes. However, we would like to note that your pass was purchased online by yourself, on February 9th of 2022. The online format of the name of the 10-visit pass in our system is "10-Visit Pass | one-year expiry" to try to make it as clear for purchasers as possible. An email with this receipt copy will be sent to you for verification.
Fantastic experience: Best gym around Awesome staff and owner
Negative experience: I’ve enjoyed the gym, and the employees service for years. But just had a frustrating experience with the gyms owner, Chris. After having some credits expire on a punch card, I called to ask if there’s a way to extend. I ended up in a crazy dialogue, with the owner confusing me with a different customer, who he was frustrated with, so he dove into chatting in a needlessly caustic manor. He insinuated that I could be lying about the injuries that prevented me from using my credits in the last year, without asking for, or providing a pathway for showing proof. He was frustrated I wasn’t proactive, even though I had called on the day of expiry. I wish he/they had some customer service training, and deescalation training, to avoid a 25 minute chaotic conversation, where I had to communicate their errors to them, and de-escalate the conversation. He offered me 5/10 credits, which I appreciate. I just wish we didn’t both have to burn so much time and stress to simply get there.
Hi Reuben, Policies are in place to create fair business practice. This situation is very straight forward. 10-visit punch passes expire after one year of purchase. If you do not use 10 within 365 days that is your responsibility. This is no different than a individual purchasing a month pass that has an expiry date of 30 days. If you do not use it within the time frame that is your responsibility. Timing is important in resolution with any dispute. You chose to make your statement after the fact, furthermore making it difficult to resolve. I do apologise for how our conversation went but what you are doing here I do not agree with. Regardless of the matter you were still offered 5 punch extension on the pass to resolve the issue but clearly has not. This is not fair to anyone else who is purchasing the same pass and equally is not fair to the business. Please keep that in mind when making future purchases and hold your own accountability.
Fantastic experience: Mountain Fitness Center is a really great gym. It's very spacious and well-equipped with everything you need. There's plenty of squat racks and benches and free weights—I never felt like there was a shortage and felt like I could access everything I wanted to use. The staff are really kind. I love how they have plenty of spray bottles and cloths so you can bring them around with you to clean equipment. Really recommend this place!

Negative experience: Half the treadmills don't work, most of the classes are in the middle of the day during the week, and there are no change rooms. The gym is small, and on some machines you have to pause your reps so people can walk around you. Honestly don't get the hype hah.
Fantastic experience: *** Amazing Gym *** Has a huge range of resistance machines, spotlessly clean bathrooms, a great cross-fit area, and tons of cardio equipment. Free parking, EV chargers, very reasonable pricing & flexible plans, and a really cool vibe. Helpful staff & friendly clientele. MTN Fitness offers FREE group fitness classes ranging from full-body circuit training to spinning, to yoga and even kickboxing-cardio style classes. I took several awesome circuit and spinning classes hosted by a great instructor; who is also a very accomplished competitive athlete. Really impressed; the best fitness classes I’ve taken. Great facility - thanks for letting me visit during my time in Squamish.
Negative experience: Tried this gym for quite some time. It is full of highschool teens and others who are not aware of proper gym etiquette. They tried to address this with an email sent out reminding users of gym etiquette like not camping a bench on their phone or yapping with a friend for 20 minutes, but it did not work unfortunately. Nice enough facility but quite small for the volume of people at all hours of the day. Unfortunately going to have to change to a bigger less busy gym
Fantastic experience: Great gym. They open very late on the weekends which is not ideal but they have good equipment and ambiance is motivating
Negative experience: Careful, expensive gym with sleezy practices. Paid for a 6 month plan, was charged for a seventh and denied any refund despite not using the gym in the last month. Was also double charged for my key fob and denied a refund despite providing proof.

Before being able to make your purchase you must click and check off the box which certifies that you have read the agreement in its entirety and agree to all terms and conditions outlined. Assuming you have read that, we follow standard subscription services like Netflix, Amazon, ESPN streaming etc. With subscription services that require any type of autopay, the consumer must contact vendors for cancellation requests. If you had known you were only committing to 6-months, there is an option to buy 6-month prepaid outright, which is also an option online that has no contract or terms and conditions attached to it. As a local business, we value transparency of our services to the community. We have our contract terms on our website for anyone to read before considering buying a membership with us (http://mountainfitnesscenter.ca/contracts). This is also the same terms you would have had to check off before making your purchase online. The double charge for an extra keytag was a mistake on our end - we are unable to process a refund to your credit card as this sale was made in person, but if you are able come in we can refund this to you. Fantastic experience: I have been a member at Mountain Fitness for 6 years and I can honestly say it’s the best environment to train, stay healthy and be in community. The gym itself has everything you need and more to strength train, cardio, functional train and also recover. The layout allows classes to take place without disrupting any individuals workout. Aside from the high quality equipment, fantastic layout and where the gym is located, the environment the management and training team have created is welcoming, fun, encouraging and safe. The staff are friendly and the management team, including Chris go above and beyond to ensure you can get everything you need out of your training journey. I have met many friends at Mountain Fitness that are now life long friends. The fun and friendly environment at the gym allows you to meet likeminded people. The views during the summer are spectacular, when the doors are all open you get floor to ceiling views of the surrounding mountains. I want to thank Chris and the Mountain Fitness team for continuing to run the best gym in town!

They also have a great range of machines & the trainers are amazing and truly want whats best for you and push you to put everything you have into each workout. They make sure you’re doing each exercise properly and are very helpful with finding alternatives or substitutions if needed. I can see why this gym is the best in Squamish!
Fantastic experience: This is the best gym I’ve ever been to! It’s become my happy place :) the staff are so friendly, and I have an amazing trainer who has really helped me feel amazing in my body. Definitely the best choice in Squamish for a gym to go to regularly.
Negative experience: Nice facility. Strange policies around membership. Staff was unapproachable when I inquired about a policy that wasn't explained well enough and resulted in me paying double the drop in rate per visit. Not willing to help out a client that felt they were misguided and misinformed. Basically shown the door. Likely won't return to this facility.
Hi Drew, The name of the pass in our system is "10-visit pass | one-year expiry". Because we offer online sales, we try to make it as clear as possible to individuals that the 10-visit passes have a 12 month expiry. This information is listed on our website, app, online store, and on the receipt that is automatically emailed to clients after purchase. As you made your purchase online, there was no way for staff to verbally inform you of the 10-pass expiry date, so we apologize that you missed this in the process of your own purchase.

Fantastic experience: This gym has everything I need and more. The functional fitness side is where I spend most of my time, the staff are very cool and it's kept nice and clean. My husband trains there and my in-laws use their personal trainers to help stay healthy & fit. My favourite part is when it's super warm outside and they roll up the big bay doors to let the cool mountain breeze in :)

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to mountain fitness for over 5 years. It feels safe, inclusive and has a sense of community. The classes are amazing - especially Emily’s strength training class. I’ve never once felt uncomfortable working out here.
Fantastic experience: Largest and best equipped gym in Squamish. Everything one could need to stay fit their way. CrossFit/ cross-training area, Olympic Lifting platforms, loads of cardio equipment, free weights, all the traditional machines, space to stretch and roll. Overall a very well maintained and organized gym.
Positive experience: Love this gym but so does everyone else in squamish. It's gotten busy during peak times but I've been fortunate enough to adjust my schedule to avoid the busy times. Staff are incredible. Facilities are great. Awesome community of members too.

Negative experience: Not a fan of this place anymore, especially the classes and the way some of the instructors manipulate the "first come first serve" reservation system. It says first come first serve, so if I've signed up before others, then I shouldn't be removed so someone on the waitlist can join. Thought I was going crazy but started taking screenshots of when I'd signed up. Anyway super dodgy behaviour and not cool. Also, the equipment is constantly broken (often with no signs) and you end up (for a class) having to kick someone off of the bikes in order to use them... this should be done the by instructor but a better idea is to have the class times posted up stairs so folks know when the spin bikes will need to be used... easy win here and mentioned soo many times to staff but nothing becomes of it.
Hi Kara, We are happy to provide over 20 free fitness classes per week to our members. Due to our studio size, class capacity is a small number compared to the number of members who wish to partake in classes. More often than not, classes are full with a waitlist. When individuals do not show up for class, it is frustrating for instructors with lesson plans in place, but most importantly for other members who would have attended if they had known the spot would be available. Our class cancellation policy of a $5 fee per no-show/late cancellation is clearly stated on our website as well as in each class description. Despite attending less than 30% of over 180 classes you have booked in the last year we have avoided applying fees to your account for the vast majority of them, as we try to be sympathetic to the reasons individuals may fail to attend. As you are canceling your membership we did provide you the option to waive the required 30 days notice and refund you for April 15th’s payment when we contacted you last month. Instead, you have continued to no-show on all bookings following this. You have been removed from approximately 3 classes with waitlists recently to allow other individuals to attend. Your other bookings for classes without waitlists have not been changed. This is not something we typically do, however at this point, we have had to take other members to mind and do what is fair for all of them. We understand that this may not seem fair to you or that it has caused you frustration, and we apologize for that. We could have communicated the reason for this more clearly to you. As with any equipment/machinery, repair and maintenance inevitably occurs. We place out of order signs as soon as we are aware of any issues with equipment, and repair them as soon as possible. Due to feedback a couple of months ago, we added individual schedules to each spin bike listing the class times (+5 minutes on each end) that require the bikes so that members are informed, and have received positive feedback from many individuals regarding this. Fantastic experience: We were visiting Squamish and got a weekly pass at mountain fitness center. It was a great experience. The gym was clean and well-maintained and the staff was friendly. They have variety of equipments were available.
Negative experience: Been be a member of This gym since November 2020. Gym did well with all precautionary measures with the pandemic which i respected and appreciated. Unfortunately however, over the last year I have found my appreciation of the gym decline. Seeing recent reviews I’m comforted to know that I’m not the only one, and perhaps there are many that don’t post reviews. I’m also hopeful that management will make changes after seeing member comments. Recently they sent out an email outlining “gym etiquette’. Good idea but I think that goes both ways for management; this morning i came to gym to find only 2 of 3 stationary bikes available working as one was broken, with no sign saying as such. Also 4 of 6 treadmills were broken. I feel this gym is operating beyond its capacities, perhaps management should consider re-evaluating how to maintain service delivery while looking to make more profit.
Negative experience: UPDATED 1/4/23: While cleanliness has improved, the etiquette is still pretty poor. Biggest gripe would be the personal trainers/contractors who repeatedly take up multiple racks and when you ask if you can use one, you’re told “no we are personal training” one trainer repeatedly does this, takes up a huge chunk of the turf side, and make you feel like you’re in the way. This behaviour is not only unprofessional but casts a poor light on the facility. I have given up and will not renew my pass when the time comes in the next few months. ———- I’ve been coming to this gym for a few years and today I reached my limit of frustrations. I got to the gym 2 hours after opening, no sanitizing bottle available even though the gym was not full, I was unable to use equipment due to lack of sanitizer. Signs all say to wipe down equipment when done. Weights are all over the place, not on racks, not in any sort of order. Staff standing around or working out. I have emailed in the past about car exhaust in the gym when the roller doors are open in the summer, but never heard back as well.
Positive experience: Joined in Summer 2022. At that time it was pretty good, not huge crowds, the open bay doors are a nice vibe. Fast forward to now and memberships have been oversold. The amount of volume in this gym between 3:00pm-9:00pm is bad....like really bad. Besides it being over capacity there is no gym etiquette. At times you are surrounded by high school students chilling on equipment, playing on their phones, and having no clue what they are actually trying to do. It reminds me of a community centre, or PE class in grade 10. The more you look around its apparent the gym has become a hangout, so many people aren't even in athletic attire. There are many ways to prevent a gym turning into something like this..... I will continue to go for now, but once my yearly membership is up for renewal I'll likely reconsider.

Negative experience: Pros: -The hours are really good -It is relatively easy to find. -The week drop in pass is an ok deal for out of towners -ample parking -diverse amount of equipment -not very busy in the morning Cons: -everything about this space is cramped -the main floor has 2x as many machines as it should -navigating between machines is awkward -no locks for lockers, despite stickers inside indicating to return keys -cardio equipment is limited and upstairs, making dumbbell circuit training impossible -most of the bike are recumbent and only two ellipticals -the bathroom/change rooms are not very private and lack space to change or properly shower

Fantastic experience: This is by far the best gym in Squamish. The staff are all very helpful and friendly, just like the users of the gym itself! I really like the large amount of space in the gym because it never gets too crowded even with more than 20 people in the gym. I would also like to note that all of the equipment is top tier quality and that there is not a lot of wear on the machines as they are basically still brand new.

Fantastic experience: Great space in a convenient location. Plenty of options for free weights, machines, or stretching and body weight exercises. Friendly staff are very helpful and happy to answer questions. Nice aesthetic and clean. And they have a smoothie bar! For climbers in Squamish looking to train this is excellent as it is right next to the climbing gym. Would recommend.
Fantastic experience: Best gym for the price in Squamish. When we were members the were in the middle of an expansion which I believe was going to be a +19 area. Pretty cool merch, great operating hours, clean, and a smoothie bar make this gym the best in Squamish by far.

Fantastic experience: Been going to this gym since it opened. It's an incredibly well stocked, clean gym with a huge array of equipment from free weights, machines, to modern spin bikes and classes. If you're looking for something talk to the front desk they probably have it. Hours are ridiculous. Holiday and wanna work out? They are probably open.

The equipment is new, and the space is kept clean and organized. I have also been attending various classes they provide with membership, and every different trainer has brought positive and fun classes and something unique to their sessions. Very happy to have found a gym of this caliber for such a reasonable membership price, and I’m stoked on their upcoming expansion!

Fantastic experience: Excellent staff, I'm an early riser and they're always there on time. Perfect space for the size of the community. The gear is new which is pretty great. I took a chance on the place when I first moved to Squamish (it was fairly new too) and I don't think I would go anywhere else.
Fantastic experience: Very clean, up do date gym. Never too busy. Bathrooms huge step up from any other gym I've been too. Equipment is all new and well cared for.
Fantastic experience: Super cool gym, well thought out layout and equipment choices. I travel often and always try out new gyms and this is one of the best I have ever been too. $2 dollar drop in after 930 on weekdays is a sweet deal. Props to the big guy with the glasses, he provided good service and offered to change the music for me.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with everything you need and friendly staff. I love that they open the big warehouse doors in the back so that you can have some fresh air and not miss out on nice weather :)

Fantastic experience: I have been coming to Mountain fitness for over a year. I enjoy this facility because it has all the equipment you could ever need as well it offers work out classes for free. I now go to the classes as well as do free weights. They even now offer yoga classes. For the price you pay you cannot beat the ammenities and services. They even have a juice bar for after your workout. All the staff are very friendly and no major Egos here either. Great positive environment to work out in Highly recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Excellent front desk staff and personal trainers. I participate in the fitness classes and have many choices, convenient schedules and I am happy with the results. Positive experience: Decent Little gym , they let you train in peach and ok ish' equipment. Pretty positive but 15$ drop in is over priced.

Fantastic experience: Super cool gym, well thought out layout and equipment choices. I travel often and always try out new gyms and this is one of the best I have ever been too. $2 dollar drop in after 930 on weekdays is a sweet deal. Props to the big guy with the glasses, he provided good service and offered to change the music for me.
