The Hangar Fitness and Wellness Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: Too small, short hours, old equipment, nice staff, decent price, generally clean, has basic necessary equipment, no pool, no ice rink, no smoothie station, gym doubles as exam hall and graduation hall and then it’s closed. Could do a lot better for a university that charges so much.
Positive experience: Old and worn out equipment, not enough space, lockers cost a fortune, can't believe we pay our tuition and get this in comparison to what Vancouver campus has
Negative experience: Gym equipment is really bad and some staff members were rude, disrespectful and even discriminating against certain people. Gym rules are for display only, depending on staff members and the manager is very irresponsible as well.
Negative experience: DONT EAT AT PRITCHARD
Negative experience: The gym is tiny for 12k students
Negative experience: I don't understand how someone could think that building a gym twice the size of my studio apartment for 12,000+ students to workout would ever be a good idea. The amount of benches to student ratio is literally 1:2000, (1:3000 if you want to workout safely) which is about the same chance you have in finding a time to workout, unless you're an incarnate of Jesus Christ himself. For the bench press benches, I'm pretty certain the rack was made by a somebody who fails to grasp basic geometry, making the rack the same length as the barbell sleeves, therefore leading to a workout that cannot be completed safely
Positive experience: The instructors and staff here are awesome! The group fitness classes are super fun! My only complaint is that the ubco recreation website is very unmanaged. Classes are missing descriptions and are often assigned the wrong room number. When a class is cancelled the website does not get updated. Also, their instagram has very little information. And it is even difficult to discern the in-person classes from the virtual classes on the schedule. If the website was updated and consistently managed I would give 5 stars.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful gym, great equipments and great classes. The vibe is very live and happy.
Negative experience: they need a bigger space than this. there are over 12k students here and the hangar (gym) can barely hold 50 people.
Positive experience: It has some variety of physical activities and is a lively place to be.
Positive experience: Good gym, have many treadmills but not much space for weights. It’s pretty small so try to go when it’s not busy
Negative experience: Way too small and usually crowded. Staff is 5/5.
Fantastic experience: GO HEAT!
Positive experience: Way too small for the population of the campus. Decent equipment. Staff should be reminding people to put their weights back after use.
Positive experience: Lots of jabronees with fancy hair trying to get their instagrain and snappea stories swoll instead of their muscles, so it was hard for me to navigate around and get some proper gains. There were also some lot lizards posting up by the cables doing more talking than sweating. Besides that staff was nice and the equipment is new. On a scale going from dumpster to mount Olympus, I'd give it a Knox Mountain.
Negative experience: way to expensive for non student
Negative experience: Really okay gym always crowded only time to come and not wait to equipment is before 10 am. Only have one mobile bench in which u can adjust the inclination. This gym sucks specially if you compare with the gyms in other universities.
Fantastic experience: Great environment
Positive experience: Not a lot of space (at all!), but nice staff
Fantastic experience: Well organized. Wheelchair accessible, many emergency exits. Big place , good surrounding sounds
Positive experience: Decent for a quick workout after studying
Positive experience: Nice facility for competitions.
Positive experience: Great, it's just a little small and gets crowded.
Positive experience: this gym is full of those people that use three machines at the same time, while not letting anyone use them. there are also those people who use the machines for 2 minutes and take breaks for 15 min. Other annoying thing is that there is no machines for chest and almost five for back. The gym is very cheap tho, and the equipment are mostly very good.
Positive experience: haven't used these facilities much but from what I've gathered it's a great space although can be very crowded.
Positive experience: Never worked out here, but exams were always fun...i think
