Capital City Elite

Negative experience: Cheerleading is a wonderful sport that builds strength, teamwork, and confidence. Unfortunately, my family’s experience with Capital City Elite has left us with deep concerns about the environment being fostered here. I truly wish there were more cheerleading options in Fredericton, as it is disheartening to see ownership pushing children away from a sport that should be uplifting and supportive. During my daughter’s time at this gym, including when the owner personally coached her, we observed an atmosphere dominated by loud shouting and a bully-like mentality from the top down. Rather than being a healthy space where children can develop and grow, the culture too often felt rigid, leaving little room for kids who do not fit a very specific mold. Cheerleading should empower athletes, yet we found our daughter often left practices upset with herself, feeling as though she was letting her team down. While every sport requires discipline and accountability, there is a clear difference between building resilience and breaking confidence. Parents considering this gym should be aware of the tone set at the leadership level, and I sincerely hope that Capital City Elite takes steps to create a more supportive, encouraging, and inclusive environment for all athletes moving forward.

Negative experience: RED FLAG REVIEW Avoid at all costs! If there was another cheer gym in Fredericton, this one would not have a leg to stand on and we would leave it in a heartbeat! I am disgusted by this gym’s poor management and leadership. It is one of the most unorganized clubs that I have ever been a part of. Lack of organization: Everything is last minute, off the cuff and adds unnecessary pressure to parents and young athletes. There is a major lack of training for coaches. Some coaches and especially the younger athletes are being exposed to very negative and toxic leadership style that is abusive in nature. Any other sports organization would not put up with this behaviour and discourages it from parents and athletes, let alone the organization’s management. Many of these young girls are hanging on to this gym because they love the sport, and are putting up with all of it, for a lack of a local competing gym. Very little to no flexibility and conditioning training for athletes. The activities that these girls perform are high impact and they are not training with preventative maintenance in mind. With little to no conditioning and flexibility training, we see more and more athletes experiencing injuries and wearing bracing/ tape at a very young age. This is a huge deal and should be a deal breaker for new comers, but the gym has bigger issues to be reviewed here. Clothing orders and uniforms: On two separate seasons the owners screwed parents out of money in the recent Seasons. One season, we ordered cheer swag, paid through the gym and never received our gear. The owner took payments but wouldn’t respond to questions about the orders, eventually blaming the clothing company for screwing up - delay after delay and never received our orders. In the 2024-2025 Season we had to pay for the uniform fee (due in June). Again, delay after delay, blaming the clothing company, months went by. Our child went to multiple (4) competitions without a uniform, we had to beg and borrow for uniforms from other athletes and ended up wearing previous seasons’ uniform. We competed in Montreal where multiple CCE teams had two different uniforms on stage (this was at the end of February, nearing the end of the season). We were the only teams without full uniforms, on a National Stage. Besides embarrassing, the owners did not even consider providing a discount, or full reimbursement for the cost of a uniform. New uniforms this season, so the old one was worn twice and never again. Our girls should be fitted for uniforms in June and be uniformed by Sept. It is unnecessary stress and sloppy management. The ownership/ management of CCE have zero regard for the financial well-being of parents and expect us to carry whatever burden they decide to throw our way. So you are on your own when booking hotels. Do not expect them to tell you which hotels they have made financial arrangements with, because the answer is none. The business does not provide invoices, nor does it provide receipts for financial interactions made for any payments. Very little care is put into the upkeep of the facility. As parents of the athletes, today we were approached by the fundraising committee to donate money so that the business can purchase an air conditioning unit for the building. Any hot summer day turns this gym into an absolute sauna, reaching extremely dangerous temperatures for the young athletes who train here. Any, and all other local sports shut down when the OUTDOOR temperature reaches levels much lower than what the INDOOR temperature reaches in this building. The Department of Public Health and Safety should have a serious look at this establishment to determine if it is suitably equipped to allow for safe activity for our children. This gym is nowhere near the best in any New Brunswick city, despite the owners’ inaccurate review here on Google. The inappropriate and toxic behaviour by management does not fall in line with Sport NB’s overall philosophy and for this and the multitude of reasons listed above, I would consider this gym to be UNSAFE.

Positive experience: Cute little gym. The staff were friendly. We attended the Halloween event and had a lot of fun, though it was a bit disorganized and they ran out of things they had given tickets for, and people handing out candy left well before the advertised end time which was very disappointing for the kids. I haven't had my child in an ongoing program there, hoping the disorganization of this event doesn't speak to how they manage others.

Fantastic experience: We recently moved to Fredericton from AB & BC so I recently registered my toddlers at CCE and they love it. The coaches are professional and knowledgeable, the owner is responsive and very hands on, and for a small town, the club is doing very well for offering the higher levels and for keeping up with international cheer trends. I personally cheered, coached and judged across Canada for almost 20 years, and so far we are very happy with what CCE has to offer. Highly recommend!
