Phoenix Fitness & Tanning: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Good place to get a good work out in
Positive experience: Very affordable compared to other gyms, and convenient for those living in Timberlea or even Dickensfield. Could be having better repairs on some machines and flooring, but I'm personally not too picky. If you're looking just for the basics (free weights, dumbbells, some cardio machines and even an aerobics/calisthenics room), while caring about your budget, then this is the gym for you. Never tried their tanning services though...
Positive experience: Dope little gym, not busy at all
Fantastic experience: I'm new here, but so far the staff are helpful and courteous. Its no high end gym, but for me its relatively clean and gets the job done, while being a stone's throw away from my house, which is ideal in the winter. You do get what you pay for though, so manage your expectations accordingly . Overall I am more than satisfied with my experience here and I intend to stay. Amazing job guys
Positive experience: Small gym, affordable and great staff
Negative experience: Just don't come to this place. Bad attitude, 0 service.
Positive experience: Free week while I was in town so I can't complain. Old school weight pit
Fantastic experience: I joined this gym since I landed in Fort Macmurray, it has all equipment I need and staff and people are friendly aswell. Love working out here.
Positive experience: Great gym, has everything you need to complete a good workout, HOWEVER, the lack of understanding when trying to curb the horrendous smell of BO in there is becoming a joke. Great gym but might have to move on just because of a few peoples “health choices”.
Fantastic experience: Great community
Negative experience: I called to cancel my membership and the lady gave me a number to call. well, her voice was cutting in and out and I kept confirming the number, she was impatient and decided to hang up on me, the gym isn't that bad for the price, but customer service is very bad.
Positive experience: The gym was nice, lots of equipment and the hours are awesome. And I gave them 3 stars only because they sold Red Bull and other poisonous drinks.
Negative experience: Pathetic service. I reached at 11:15 , about 4t minutes before closing time while they were shutting the gym but still dont not open it till the actual closing time of 12 am. Not store shuts before time if there are no customers and shutting before business hours is highly unprofessional. Highly dissatisfied
Fantastic experience: Nice staff and GREAT HOURS and because I go late everything is available and I feel like it’s my own gym. Amazing prices. It’s an older more worn down gym but it gets the job done. plus they don’t discriminate.
Fantastic experience: Good gym for workout
Positive experience: Not one of the best but also not worst, overall a good gym for this price if you are here just to work out and tanning. But don’t expect all the facilities like steam bath, showers etc.
Fantastic experience: Nice staff and GREAT HOURS and because I go late everything is available and I feel like it’s my own gym. Amazing prices. It’s an older more worn down gym but it gets the job done. plus they don’t discriminate.
Fantastic experience: Honest such a sweet gym dirt cheap monthly fee super nice staff a decent amount of machines large variety of dumbbells and barbells decent amount of benches and a good free weight space plus great amount of cardio and never to busy love the atmosphere of this gym
Fantastic experience: Love this little gym!
Negative experience: The staff were really nice but the rest of the gym looked very run down and outdated the lights were very dim and equipment was damaged and outdated the machines were half broken and sounding like they were never taken care of and the place was dirty like it hasn’t been cleaned since they opened the place, I had higher expectations for a 13$ drop in price
Negative experience: Cleaning is like a unicorn here, it's just something you don't see at all. However when you got covid going on this is the only place they have open, that's reasonably priced. Lower your expectations before coming to this gym as you get what you pay for. They definitely do not raise the bat here!
Fantastic experience: Best gym ever
Fantastic experience: Best gym in town. It's a little rough around the edges. But it has everything you need for the best value in town.
Fantastic experience: Love this little gym!
Positive experience: Plenty of dumbbells and benches, relatively tidy but could use new flooring and upgrades/repairs to equipment that takes up space on the gym floor. Affordable memberships and friendly staff
Positive experience: Good times miss it would get a five if they'd open already!:)
Positive experience: They make me sign my times online which is great. Allows 8 people in weights and 5 in cardio. That would be great if they held to it.
Fantastic experience: Affordable memberships, equipment does the job, and its not too overly packed there :) I love it.
Fantastic experience: They dont have the best equipment but they have enough for you to get a good workout. It's also super cheap
Fantastic experience: Everything you need good hours and cheap
Fantastic experience: Great gym .first week free
Fantastic experience: Great prices and close to home. Great atmosphere - just a bunch of dudes there to shut up and lift some weights.
Negative experience: Gym wasn't exceptional. Locker room was basically a closet and NO SHOWER
Negative experience: The have a company that's whole point is to make it hard as possible to cancel your membership. Nothing but a scam.
Fantastic experience: I think some of the reviews are outdated so here's a comprehensive review: I've been using this gym now for about 2 weeks. I'm a Syncrude CO-OP student in the Timberlea area, I usually train 3-5 times a week at the Athletic center at UofT which has Olympic lifting platforms so I'm used to good equipment, variety etc. but of course that gym has a hefty price tag and you get what you pay for along with other amenities such as a pool, sauna, multiple fitness classes etc. Looking at the cost of Phoenix fitness the facility reflects the cost and I actually think you get more than you pay for if you snag a membership during a promotion. The cardio equipment is BRAND NEW and in very good working condition. They have finished a group fitness room that can be used for stretching or for those who want to workout in an enclosed space if they're shy. The strength training equipment quality is hurting a bit but they're still functional and there are more than enough options to get your workout in. There is about 2 machines for every major body part, multiple cable machines, 2 squat/deadlift racks, a Smith machine, 2 leg presses, lying leg curl and leg extension, assisted pull up machines, shoulder press machine, pec deck, rear delt, seated cable row machines, lat pull downs, bicep curl machines, abdominal machine, back extension and the list goes on. They have a full dumbbell rack with multiple sets per weight so that you don't have to wait for someone to finish using the 50lb dumbbells. The facilities are clean, the staff are very friendly along with the gym goers and there are change rooms, showers, bathrooms, lockers and sinks for men and women. For $25/month (your cost will vary, I signed up during a promotion) I'm actually impressed with how much I liked the gym considering I'm used to more "upscale" gyms but if you know what you're doing or even just starting out it has everything you need. As a student I highly recommend, it's never too busy and you rarely have to wait your turn for equipment. Also their hours work great for those working 7:30am or 12hr shifts because they open at 4:30am and close at midnight giving you no excuse to miss your workout. I highly recommend this gym for anyone who is placed in the Timberlea area if you like walking to your gym before your workout or just want to save as much money while working in Fort Mac as you can.
Positive experience: They recently repaired/replaced parts of many of their equipment (cardio machines still need work). They have all the equipment to get your workout done. The cost is low compared to other gyms in Fort Mc, great gym if you are a FIFO worker staying in Timberlea half of the time.

Negative experience: Giving this gym 1 star would be a long shot. After going to this gym for a while and being continually disappointed in the lack of working equipment, I have cancelled my membership. Poorest excuse for a gym I have ever seen. Save your money and go to a gym that maintains itself.
Fantastic experience: Came to phoenix for the first time yesterday and i talked with one of the girls at the desk, Nikki or nicole i believe, she was so friendly and answered all my questions promptly and even helped me figure out how to use some equiptment. the gym has an old school schwarzenegger vibe to it and everyone seems to keep to themselves. ill definitley come back and 10/10 would recommend.
Fantastic experience: Nikki at the front desk is amazing
Positive experience: The equipment is olded but they have everything you need for a basic workout. The staff is very friendly, smiling as they greet you.
Positive experience: Gets the job done and that's about it.
Positive experience: I don't think this gym is so bad. It meets all the basic needs; close to home, has WiFi which is great so I watch Netflix while doing cardio. Equipment could use some work but all in all its OK. Its an average joes gym.
Negative experience: A vile disgusting so called "gym" smells like a boiled donkey.
Negative experience: disgusting place. employees badmouth you and there's no management there to report it to.
