Amazing day and learned everything we need to know to safely top rope at local climbs. Highly recommend their outdoor courses for anyone looking for more adventures.

Fantastic experience: I really enjoy going to On The Rocks Climbing gym. The atmosphere and people working there give me the experience I am looking for when I go for a session. I usually find myself meeting new people and working on hard and fun boulder problems.

Fantastic experience: This was my 12 year old grandson's first visit. The staff was unbelievable, so understanding and supportive. My grandson mentioned how good they were and thanked them very much. The equipment was top notch. My grandson left on an emotional high.

Fantastic experience: I just moved to Van Isle from Ontario, so to see a local climbing gym as awesome as this one was such a pleasant surprise. Being a beginner climber myself, it was great to have such helpful staff. They didn't hesitate to help whatsoever whenever I had questions. My only gripe is I'm used to having the routes all be one colour holds so it took a bit to get used to having routes set in multiple colour holds. It's clearly marked with tape though. With further thinking though I don't mind it at all because I'm wanting to get into outdoor climbing, so having a less clear path is somewhat helpful forcing you to scout the route beforehand and really think about things. Overall awesome place and super friendly community, nobody should be intimidated if they wish to get into climbing. This is the place to do it, they'll make you feel welcome and help out whenever you need.

They took the time to make sure we were comfortable with the 'falling' and didn't rush us and offered to help all along the time we were there. The staff was also very patient explaining the different place plans.

Positive experience: Good local spot to work on bouldering. The routes are a bit hard to follow sometimes, but you can just make your own way at any point, so you can decide the difficulty.

Fantastic experience: Amazing place with climbing for all levels. Top rope and a whole new bouldering section to add to the existing bouldering cave. Training facility upstairs with a moon board and workout equipment. The staff are super people and a couple of them are route developers at popular outdoor climbing areas on Vancouver island. Full of wonderful tips and stories from their adventures. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: We came as a family of 4 with our 2 teen daughters. The owner and his colleague were warm, friendly and very helpful and attentive. We had such a good time. This was my first rock climbing experience and I am hooked! Courses were challenging, fun and interesting. Highly recommend! All levels will find a challenge!

Fantastic experience: Great climbing gym, different grading system than I’m used to (no abcd ratings, just + or -) which made it a little trickier to figure out what I wanted to be climbing. But really friendly guy at the front counter, saw him helping out some kids who were climbing, he was awesome at interacting with them and showing them the “ropes” of climbing

Negative experience: I have attended this business several times over the last few years. I myself have in fact hosted a couple birthdays there for my children. Until today, I have always been impressed by the service , although the birthday facilities needed some serious improvement and cleaning. Today, I went with my two eleven year olds, my seven year old, and my infant. My seven year old had wanted to have her birthday party there in May and she was excited to try the big wall. When we arrived, we were told that we could try any of the facilities and pay at the end of our visit; I was fully intending to stay two hours and pay nearly $25 per child. The two older children decided to go straight onto the big wall but my seven year old was nervous. When we went upstairs to play in the small climbing room, the man whom we later realized was the owner informed me that my seven year old and my infant couldn’t play on any of the mats. However, when he spoke, instead of me, he addressed my seven year old in an aggressive and hostile manner. She was out of sorts after that and unable to enjoy herself. After a while, she told me that she was willing to try the big wall. So, we went downstairs and waited to be attended to. The owner was attending to some other children and afterward he turned his attention to us. I explained that my daughter wanted to try the big wall. He gruffly asked if she would be able to pass the Grey line marked ten feet up the wall. I responded that I wasn’t sure she would but she wanted to try. He rudely responded that she couldn’t try the big wall and could go back upstairs. I had been willing to pay full price for her to climb, whether she made it two feet or twenty. But my seven year old then sullenly watched the other two children climb, fighting back tears. The young employee tried hard to address our concerns and give my daughter another chance but the experience for her was ruined and there was nothing for him to do. My two older children checked with me after about an hour. I told them we had to go because the seven year old wasn’t having fun. They told me they weren’t having fun either because the same man - the owner -was driving them too hard and treating them meanly. As we were leaving, the owner addressed us as if surprised. I told him he was a jerk. He entirely minimized my concerns, essentially saying that I was misrepresenting the situation. He asked if we had been there before. I responded that we had been several times before and it had been great; the reason for that was because he hadn’t been there. My seven year old daughter was crushed and we left; I will be surprised if she will ever be willing to try climbing again. This is completely counterintuitive to building a client base for this business. It is my sense that this owner mainly wants to cater to the climbing community and considers novices as an inconvenience. However, this business is marketed as accessible for the average member of the community and as a safe place for families to go for recreation and parties. This is not true. He cannot have it both ways unless he is creative in the way he schedules time for his business which he has not been. I cannot express how dissatisfied I am with the treatment I have received at this business today. My seven year old has seen how mean and miserable people can be, even towards children. This is the worst service I have received in my whole life. Even if they fix the obvious issues that they have in scheduling their times for experienced and novice climbers, me and my family will never return to this place. It is ruined for my seven year old daughter and I will never again give that man another red cent.

Negative experience: Staff are 100% if the owner is working would not recommend bringing your children there. However, he seems like a nice guy when your one on one with him Great gym, glad its serving the Comox Valley community but 1 star due to lack of understanding of customers concerns

Fantastic experience: Love taking our son here to use the bouldering room upstairs. They even have little shoes that fit his three year old feet.

Fantastic experience: I bought the 1 year membership and I am proud to call this gym my home gym now. The climbers are more transient than I’m used to, but that means people are usually happy to meet another climber. The routes have a rate of turn over that suits me. And there aren’t too many children birthday parties!

Negative experience: While the gym is very impressive, the staff was incredibly subpar. The site brags that anyone can climb, of all ages, so we brought our 4.5 year old son down. He's sturdy and loves to climb. From the get go the staff member there barely gave us the time of day. After warming up upstairs and coming down we were ignored for a good 15 minutes until he finally got around to getting us a harness, which he said probably wouldn't fit. It did. He did not look impressed. After my son had one go at climbing and dropped the staff member said that he couldn't do it and went to take off the harness. Thanks for helping support a future climber. He was disappointed and we doubt we will be back any time soon. Your facility is great but customer service is some of the worst I have seen in a long time.

Fantastic experience: I'll keep this brief. This establishment is warm, clean and very friendly. What makes this place different from other places is it isn't cold. Cold in colour and temperature. Too many climbing gyms have gross gravel floors or cement or wood. And other places usually have just plain painted plywood walls. On the Rocks has soft matted floor to protect from falls and synthetic rock walls. They have a nice lounge, a bouldering cave, the main area has auto-belays if you don't have a partner (though the staff is always there to belay you if you want), a coffee bar, snacks, and even a small area for a gym/party area. The proprietor is very knowledgeable and will immediately become your friend. He often holds events for the community and is a pillar of Campbell River.
