Orillia Recreation Centre

Negative experience: The management here has no interest in making a fitness center membership plan for those who only want to workout at the gym. Gymgoers are forced to buy a pricey 'funpass' which equates to $565 per year after tax for an adult male resident making it one of the most expensive fitness centers in this entire region of Ontario to join. Compare this to Fit4less which costs $291 (tax inc) for the entire year and it becomes apparent why this recreation center is running a deficit every year costing taxpayers a fortune in lost revenue because they have priced out their own citizens from using this facility. If you ever come here and wonder why this monolithic building is mostly empty and only filled with a scattering of well-to-do people this is why. It was made by the cities elites, for the elites and their families. The classism divide is by design.

Negative experience: Would not take my 100 dollar bill so my daughter and I could not go swimming. There is no sign saying they don’t accept 100 $ bills. Extremely rude and did not even care.

Negative experience: My son went on a school field trip and when it was free time and he accidentally cussed and he said sorry and the lifeguard gave him a 30 second stare for NO REASON and then he said sorry again and she still GAVE HIM A 30 SECOND STARE AGAIN and she said ok go in the pool and then she kicks him out thanks to you idiots my son is pissed of because of you

Fantastic experience: They were very helpful during the storm / days of blackout in Apri, 2025.

Positive experience: Pretty fun place to work-out, play basketball/pickleball, enjoy the pool and do other awesome things they offer. One point docked off due to a lifeguard saying his job was made "easier" because with my seizures, they have to explain their rules and you can only be in the shallow end, I decided not to swim. Thus, making him say "That makes my job easier!" Wasn't a good feeling.

Fantastic experience: After the ice storm my friends and I got relief from the cold, we had food and drinks and we charged our devices. The ORC is a community godsend.

Negative experience: The showers have no water pressure/ sprays at the wall! Doesn't actually get your body.

Fantastic experience: The rec centre is a short walk from my drive, and I love coming here! Lots of fitness classes are offered, and the pools are always great.

Fantastic experience: I want to thank Joey for all his hard work in measuring and thought in redesigning the weight room gym. It is so much better with more functionality. I have talked to a lot of other gym members and they are extremely happy with the results. We know you spent a lot of time and effort to make the gym more accommodating and we appreciate it. By the way all the staff are great people there. As an added bonus for myself I am an amputee and sometimes have to use a wheel chair. This new layout is much better. Thank you for caring about your members Joey.

It’s a wonderful asset to Orillia and highly recommended for residents and visitors alike.

Fantastic experience: This place has it all, lots of classes to choose from, instructors are amazing and the staff are the best kind of people. To make my experience coming here perfect. More fans please it can get hot and sweaty.

Negative experience: Nice new facility, too bad they made everyone get out of the pool and held us hostage. Told me 50ish and young kids couldn't leave because they (teens) lost track of 3 teen boys. I'm no teen, nor were the children we had with us. Cold just sitting there getting cold. Not a great experience. If we ever get back, I hope it's a better time.

Positive experience: Beautiful building and facility. Good gym. I like that you pay month to month, and the cost is about $40 for an adult. I wish the weight and equipment area downstairs was bigger - it can get really busy at times. Lots of classes!

Fantastic experience: My daughter and I love the pool, the staff is extremely friendly and the lifeguards do a fantastic job guarding the pools.. none stop movement and counting, using their arm symbols to communicate.

Fantastic experience: Great place to go for working out and exploring there any activities they offer here. The workers here are nice and offer people all sorts of things to do especially training packages that'll get you started if you're new to the gym.

Positive experience: The recreation centre is fantastic. But today when I was in lane swimming 9-9:30 am, I noticed one female life guard in a tong bottom. I think it is just not appropriate attire for a life guards. It looks vulgar seeing lifeguard’s naked back cheeks. What would happen if the guys lifeguards come in swimming tong. Call me old fashioned but it is wrong and should be a dress code for people working with public.

Fantastic experience: We did parent and tot swim class here and it's great! The facilities are new and clean and well maintained. The instructors do a great job. The front desk staff do too. The other programs going on as we walk through the building all seem great as well. This is a great rec centre!

Positive experience: Great pool, but schedules are always a pain to navigate. We've dropped in a few times for the pool and gym with kids and there's a lot of tight schedule fragmentation based on age, pool sections avail, etc. Good luck.

Negative experience: It's okay. They need to utilize the space better in this facility. Large empty rooms where the town can be supplementing the lack of supervised access centers in Orillia or various other things Orillia is in need of. WHY IS U CLOSED AT 6 ON A SATURDAY.

Positive experience: Wish there was a steam room/sauna/hot tub available for people when finished their workouts. There is a steam room; but access is severely limited to those who aren't using the aquatic area and seems only to be available at obscure times. A heat source post workout is a nice feature at most gyms but not so at this one...big miss, City of Orillia.

Fantastic experience: This is a fantastic place they have a lot of activities. But they need better management the staff is very young and at time make questionable decisions. And took way way to long to fix therapy tub over a month not aseptable .

Positive experience: Was in Orillia for the day on Monday and had an opportunity to kill some time. Went for free swim 12:15 -14:15 and had a great time! Very clean facility, nice locker/change rooms and great pool. I wish the leisure pool was deeper (less than 1 meter) since I prefer a deeper swim but don’t want to do laps in a lane pool. My understanding is on weekends they remove the lanes for so you can use the full depth pool. I found the website VERY difficult to navigate on my mobile but was able to receive adequate assistance over the telephone. Impressive list of other activities available each day of the week. If I didn’t live 2hr away I would definitely consider getting a pass for this centre!

Positive experience: Staff are all great 100 percent. Pool area is top notch for sure. Don't know why they didn't put a steam room or sauna downstairs in/by the changerooms (bit of a head scratcher there, have to get changed just to head upstairs to head to another changeroom in the pool area just to use a steam room lol...) If you're looking to lift serious weights/get a full workout in there's other gyms in the city for that, this isn't the gym for you. Too many university/highscool kids thinking their going to be the next social media/fitness influencer lol, ego lifters/standing around watching their buddy lift 10 pound dumbbells above their head. Good gym to do cardio though
